My main MCB gets tripped twice or thrice a day at different intervals which range in hours. Many times, this happens even ACs are not running and there is no significant load. When PCB is put back to normal, it does not happen immediately and takes 5 to 10 minutes. If I try to do it immediately, PCB will not hold and trip back instantly. This has been happening for 3 months now. What could be the reason?

Solution: Check for loose connections in the panel and ensure all connections are tight. Improve ventilation around the MCB by removing any obstructions and ensuring the panel is not exposed to excessive heat.
2. Faulty Wiring or Insulation:
Cause: There could be a fault in the wiring or insulation that causes intermittent short circuits or leakage currents.
Solution: Inspect the wiring and insulation for any signs of damage, wear, or deterioration. Use an insulation resistance tester (megger) to check for insulation faults.
3. Overloading:
Cause: Even if the load doesn't seem to affect the tripping, there might be a transient overload or an accumulated effect over time.
Solution: Ensure that the total load on the MCB does not exceed its rated capacity. Distribute the load evenly across multiple circuits if possible.
4. Faulty MCB:
Cause: A new MCB might also be faulty if it has manufacturing defects or if it was damaged during installation.
Solution: Replace the MCB with a new one from a reputable brand and ensure proper installation.
5. Earth Faults:
Cause: An earth fault (leakage current to ground) can cause the MCB to trip intermittently.
Solution: Use an earth fault loop impedance tester to detect any earth faults. If found, identify and fix the fault in the wiring or connected devices.
6. Incompatibility with Devices:
Cause: Some devices might have inrush currents or characteristics that cause the MCB to trip.
Solution: Check the devices connected to the circuit and ensure they are compatible with the MCB. You might need to use an MCB with a different trip characteristic (e.g., Type B, C, or D).
7. Harmonic Distortions:
Cause: Harmonic distortions caused by electronic devices can sometimes cause the MCB to trip.
Solution: Use a power quality analyzer to check for harmonic distortions. If present, consider installing filters to mitigate the effect.
