I would want to know why a man is shut down but I'd also want him to work on addressing it and feel safe enough to show emotion at least in private with me. Men definitely were raised to bottle up their emotions and it's sad to see how it impacts them in adulthood beyond showing tears. Not all men, because I have male friends who have cried in front of me and I don't see them as lesser men at all.
