    I find it fascinating this guitar seems to have a sort of neck tenon under the pickguard. First time I've seen that on an F-style guitar. Not sure what the purpose is but it's cool as heck! Thanks for sharing the teardown (and oh yeah the before and after) with us.

    I would love to hear the original pickups with 1meg pots. They are very hot, so maybe the 500k pots are choking them a bit

      Clicked on this video to explore that idea. Stock pups, while very hot, are very dull on the low end. Lollars are dope in this video but I ain't got that kind of muns!! 1M pots might give me a reason in life to use the tone knob as well!

    Nice job, Emily! I just installed a Gunstreet U.S Spec Tele - Volume Bleed - 3 Way - CTS - Wiring Harness for a Tele build. FWIW, when I first wired up the pickups to the wiring harness, after following the instructions, my neck and bridge pickups were reversed and I had no sound in the middle position for both pickups together. Thinking myself clever (clearly, I'm not), I unscrewed the switch from the control plate and turned it around to solve the reversed switch issue. I thought, well, maybe the instructions were off so I unsoldered my hot wires and put the bridge hot wire to the neck pot and the neck hot wire to the bridge pot and turned the switch back around to it's normal position. Then I had a look at what I did wrong about the no middle position sound. I realized when I soldered the pickups' hot wires to the wiring harness pots, I did not include the the tiny middle connectors in this soldering work. So I did that...got the middle both pickups sound, huzzah! However, the neck and bridge positions were reversed again - i.e., they were actually working as originally instructed. D'oh! I unsoldered everything and put the bridge and neck hot wires back to the original pots as instructed, including the tiny middle connectors. The End. :P

    I think we’ve all been there. I have a tele whose switch works back to front because I always for get to spin it, until the next time I play. The other day, I spent ages trying to work out why I was getting s9 much noise from a guitar I had modded. After a few frustrating hours, took the output jack out only to find in my haste at wanting to get playing I had wired it backwards 🙈. It’s nice to see someone clearly having fun and loving their ‘new’ guitar.

    • @GetOffset
      @GetOffset  Před 4 lety +1

      Hahah, it's so easy to make little mistakes like that! I need to get a better lil rig for testing electronics while things are still on my bench. Maybe a little headphone amp, and usually putting my phone up to the pickups while it's playing music will give enough of an indication if things are mostly right.

  • @MichaelZola
    @MichaelZola Před 4 lety +2

    I thought it was a really good call to replace the pickups. Even better to replace the wiring. What a difference it made! Awesome that we got to see your first reaction. The tone is so smooth and absolutely matches the guitars aesthetics.
    It’s what it should of been. The split coils sound fantastic. Great job getting it switched out. Your results turned out so great. This guitar is a ten out of ten with the last tuning stability mods.
    Thanks for the wiring recommendations. It seems just as important as choosing the right pickups for your instrument to be its best. Really enjoyed the video! The demos were great. Cheers.

    Were you able to fix the tuning issues? Mine goes weirdly out of tune after playing it for 5 minutes or so. Have a theory about the squier trem block being the issue, but have not committed to dropping in the similar fender bridge I bought for it.

    • @GetOffset
      @GetOffset  Před 3 lety +1

      I'd try just adding some graphite or pencil lead in the bridge and nut. Ryan Burke and I did that and it improved tuning stability a LOT.

    Did you have to find an angled bridge humbucker for the bridge or does a normal one do fine?

  • @albertoazaharvichparedes2052

    Excellent review! I got a question, are the stock humbuckers able to be splited or is it mandatory to change the pickups? And... Is it possible to add a tone knob?

    • @GetOffset
      @GetOffset  Před 4 lety +2

      Great question! The stock humbuckers do indeed have four leads! they taped up the extra two, so you could absolutely split the original humbuckers if you wanted.

      @@albertoazaharvichparedes2052 That's exactly what I did here -- I went from two volumes to a master volume and master tone. However, Sean at Gunstreet Wiring is the person to talk to if you have specific questions about what's possible to do. I wouldn't be able to do these videos without his expertise.

  • @greasymonkeyguitars9292

    Great video! Did you put the new bridge pickup in backwards? I noticed the pole pieces were on the "not usual" side, lol. It looks cool as heck like that though! The Lollars and the wiring is a night and day difference from stock. It's a tough choice between this and the Cyclone.

    • @GetOffset
      @GetOffset  Před 4 lety +1

      You know what, that's entirely possible, but I think I was going off the color order on the zebras, but totally possible I need to swap that. How would I tell if they're backwards?

      @@GetOffset Usually the adjustable pole pieces with the screwdriver slots go towards the bridge in the bridge position, or the neck in the neck position (like you did). With the cream bobbins positioned like you have, it's very Slash-y in looks, lol.

      @GetOffset  Před 4 lety +1

      What's funny is, looking at it now, I did it the opposite of what I even meant to do! I might switch it next time I change strings, but do you think there's any harm in leaving it as it? I think I dig how it sounds a smidge farther from the bridge if that makes sense.
