He is such a nice guy and a phenomenal drummer.
I love drumming and listening to drum solos, and it's such a contrast to my Northern Lights photography activity.

Never thought I'd find a drummer better than Neil Peart. But here he is, the one man thunderstorm.
Easily one of the most underrated metal-drummers.
Lukas Meichl He's not underrated, he's just a bit unknown.
+Lukas Meichl This drummer is known to be the most talented drummer in Finland. Maybe he is not known in the world, but we know he's talent.
I got to know him through the first Wintersun record. I'm much into Finnish metal, so his name kept popping up quite often. Now I'm a bit surprised that this guy's fame almost exclusively resides within Finland's boundaries.
He is one of the most underrated?????? He make the demo of the high end product of Roland td50 drum, the most famous brand of electronic drum.
Not really, he's actually quite off in his timing and misses quite abit. I miss Jukka sorely.
I am glad Kai is currently playing in Nightwish, so that more people could notice how insanely good he is. He deserves so much more credit than he gets.
This dude's feel and musicality is just insane.
Kai Hahto is a badass. There can be no question as to that. One of my favorite drummers for sure

IMO, Kai is the best drummer from Finland and one of the best in the world. I've seen him two days ago with Nightwish in Bucharest, RO. Brilliant! Before Nightwish, Kai was Swallow The Sun' s drummer. Also play in Wintersun and some other bands.

I have so much respect for drummers! How they are able to have each limb on another rhythem on the same time in perfect synchronisation!
When I first hear he was covering for Jukka on the EFMB tour, I went and looked up some of the Wintersun videos and was all "THIS is who is covering for Jukka???"
Then when I saw them like, I was all "THIS is who is covering for Jukka!!!" Was totally surprised in a very good way. He is totally bad ass and possibly one of the best drummers that flies under everyones radar.
And kai is the best!!
He makes it look so easy. Sitting there and beating the crap out of those drums.
Exactly. He hits those drums hard. Stamina is important. And after that comes skill which Kai is on the top level.
He's the best finn drummer that I've never heard before
lot of techniques, so much grooving, broken up beats. That technique with the left foot is awesome..!
+e. ojeda It's easy to notice his left foot, but the more I think about it, the more I'm impressed by the right foot. He's playing double strokes (LRRLRRLRR...). Wow!

Nightwish sorta blew up on YT and I am seeing more and more of these Kai drum videos showing up in recommendations.

Kai is not quite as flashy as Jukka but he certainly is massively impressive on the drums, and really looks relaxed even doing stuff like this, which is just as impressive to me.
Was watching an interview with him, and Kai joked he is trying to be a bit showier but he has almost hit Floor with a stick so more work was needed. He seems not only a great drummer but a totally cool guy too.

This is what practice looks like. It's tedious, boring, and I HATE IT!. But when you learn something new that you didn't even think you could do, the way it translates to music is fun and inspiring. I have to start forcing myself to practice more.
I dig Kai's drumming in Nightwish. An extraordinary man brought into extraordinary circumstances, and I'm glad he's here. Thanks Kai!

Well.. ppl here are saying that he is the best drummer from Finland..nope he isnt the best one. Yes best metal drummer for sure atm. But there is still one guy who isnt that well know but he played in band called Kingston Wall back in 90's name is Sami Kuoppamäki :)

I bet he'll get paid very well and I know that kai is a very nice guy and he's just a replacement drummer for he's friend only for a year.
Three reasons:
1. To help out his friend who can't tour with the band due to health conditions.
2. He got paid.
3. Nightwish is more popular than Wintersun. But even if it wasn't mixing and matching live performers is still a great way to get more fans for both bands involved.

Yeah, Rotten Sound became quite generic right after he left it. His unconventional beats is what made RS stand out from the 1001 grindcore bands that they re-joined after his departure.

Nowadays Kai is drummer for both Wintersun and Nightwish. When both have gigs at the same time, Kai goes with Nightwish and Wintersun has to cope without.

You label him "Nightwish" though he is only their live musician and is better known as the drummer of Wintersun.
+Penguincamp Thanks for the comment. Kai Hahto actually plays everything on Nightwish's latest studio album “Endless Forms Most Beautiful” so he's not just their live drummer. But you're right, Wintersun should be mensioned too. I added it now.

Not obvious to everybody. He handles both the hi-hat and the left bass drum pedal at the same time. But when I analyze this a little more I'm actually more impressed with his right foot with which he plays two beats between every beat with the left foot.

Good Metal drummer and perfect for the music he plays. But when he ventures outside that style he just sounds limited and sloppy.
