To be honest a lot of people forgot why she went there. The reason she was there was to defend the castle from Criston. When she finds out that Aemond is there she can’t just leave or they will take the castle. So she tries to weaken Vhagar even a little so he can’t just keep sending her out to fight. And when she sees herself and meleys injured she decides to go for broke and we know how that ended. The entire time trying to defend the castle. Only to end up dying above the wall to provide a breach for Qwayne and Criston’s forces.
But rooks rest was so close she could’ve come back with help 😭

i mean she would also die a dragon riders death and have people write that about her after her death rather than her legacy being "she ran away from battle and died of old age"
People forget what also plays on her mind is what Daemon said, she could have ended it all when Aegon was crowned king. Now, she is in the same position and she has to try. What would have possibly have been the point of going there if she wasn't going to go all in on the effort of winning.
Melys and Rhaenys have been bonded for 40+ years, so their bond is extremely genuine and deep. Her last look to Rhaenys seems like an apology for not being able to protect her rider, but Rhaenys's look assures her dragon that she will not leave her :'((((
Vhagar did not see Valyria…Vhagar and Meraxes were hatched on Dragonstone. Vhagar is the last living dragon from Aegons Conquest. Balerion the black dread was the last dragon born in Valyria.
Rhaneys stayed and fought because she was given a task to defend Rooks rest. She couldn’t leave because if she fled and rooks rest fell no one could trust Rhanerya to protect them or come to their aid. She was a solider and she couldn’t retreat or run away.
she would also be seen as a coward by people and that would be her legacy.. "she ran away and died of old age" is what the history books would say about her. Now they will say she fought bravely against 2 dragons one of them being vhagar and died a dragonriders death

@@JustaMomThatSims Vhagar has a teenager on her back. One would expect more from the experienced Rheanys. Aemond has to be given credit seeing as he knew how to use Vhagar who is slow cleverly.
She knew she couldn't finish Vhagar alone, so she at least hurt and weakened her, in the hope Daemon (her cousin and the son of Meleys' former rider) and Caraxes (Meleys' brother) would finish the job. In the book it was even more obvious and courageous, because there was no betrayal of Aemond and the brothers attacked her together. She was being the queen that she should have been from the start! 👑
Lucerys isn't Aemond's cousin. Rhaenyra and Aemond are siblings. So he killed his nephew first, then lit up his brother, and killed his cousin Rhaenys with the sneak attack.
Aemond is exactly what they are trying to portray daemon to be. Aemond is violent and would kill his own fanily to gain power daemon would die for his family. He could have killed viserys at any time and took the throne but he loved his brother and just wanted to be by his side. Darmon hates otto for druving a wedge between him and viserys. Daemon only cares about the strength of his family's house and he doesnt see the greens as targaryen he sees them as hightowers.
He got with his brother's daughter when she was still a child 😂 and murdered his first wife!
They are very similar but daemon loves his famly, despite everything. Aemond despises his mother, his brother and his grandpa. He is a menace for everyone, black or green XD
Bruv, Daemon had Viserys for a brother, look at who Aemond has and tell me if Daemon went through all that he wouldn't have killed him too. Daemon that has killed multiple family members already. And if you like, say that the family he killed, he didn't consider them as family, same can be said for Aemond. When had Lucerys, Aegon or Rheanys shown him love? Its only yourself you are deceiving.
@TraditionalCrusader that is just how the show is portraying him. In the books he is not only rash and violent but also kind. And currently in the show harrenhall is bringing out the worst in him. I never said he is a good man. I'm saying that aemond is exactly what people think daemon is. Aemond killed his nephew his aunt will gladly kill his brother. He hates his mom and his grandfather. Daemon has killed his first wife and hooked up with his niece. He never tried to kill his brother or niece. He could have taken the throne at any moment. Also him killing his first wife is only for the show if I'm not mistaken he was still fighting in the stepstones when she died in the book. And in the book he never turned on rhaenyra he fully supported her claim. The show is trying to make him look worse.

Rhaeneys was brave. In the books, the same thing happened. She had the chance to leave but she came back without a second thought because that's just how she was as a person. She knew she was going to lose but she wanted to fight until the end.

Rhaenys knew there was a high possibility she and Melys might not come back, it was tactical on her part to do as much damage as possible, Criston and Aemond were hoping to draw out Rhaenyra and her dragon but Rhaenys, the most experienced, volunteered, and was ambushed by 2 dragons. She and Melys were the OGs🖤🖤

For anyone wondering why she didn’t flee, in the show it shows she has the opportunity to flee and chooses not to. In the books unlike the show she wasn’t fighting sunfyre and then having to decide to fight Vhagar or not. She was fighting both at the same time and unlike the fight all 3 dragons came crashing down with only Vhagar coming out alive(of course sunfyre critically injured)
I guess in the show they wanted to show how fearless and brave she was? Idk but the show has been pretty good. I don’t need them to be a identical copy of the book

Harrenhall might be run down but it is the key to the riverlands. It is still the largest castle in the realm and is large enough to house entire armies inside its massive walls. When it aas built it was said a million men could attack harrenhall and still lose. The walls are over 100 feet tall.
If you watch all the dragon fighting carefully, Rhaenys and Meleys are in control like 90% of the time.
When she turns around to fight Vhagar she straps on to turn upside down, Meleys dips her anchor foot (foot she used to grab Vhagar&Sunfyre), Meleys turns upside down under Vhagar and Meleys grabs Vhagar not the other way around!
Rhaenys and Meleys could have won because they’re better at dragon fighting but Aemond and Vhagar surprised attacked them as he knew he had too to win
No, Vhagar grabbed Meleys. Meleys had a plan but Vhagar caught her and was the one in control.
@@rexibhazoboa7097 On the contrary, If you watch the episode carefully Meleys flips under and then grabs Vhagar foot on purpose to avoid the brunt of Vhagar’s fire. If you keep watching carefully, Meleys climbs around Vhagar before she plants her right foot and claws with her left (Meleys dipped her rights foot, her ‘anchor’ foot (the foot she uses to plant herself on dragons to attack. Did it to both Sunfyre and Vhagar))
Another bit to suggest this, if Vhagar was holding Meleys, Vhagar wouldn’t have let Meleys slam her to the ground just to have Meleys fly away.
Though we haven’t seen real Dragon v Dragon combat till HOTD S2, you gotta remember Meleys is team blacks most battle experienced dragon, she is no stranger to fighting dragons bigger than her
@@Bled420 First of all, Meleys foot is too small to trap Vhagar's. Secondly, once they linked foot to foot, she can see Vhagae is in control by the shape of Meley's wings. Meleys was *dragged* backwards while Vhagar immediately turned and blasted her with fire. Thirdly, while they were falling to the ground, you see Meleys twist and turn to break free of Vhagar's hold right before hitting the ground. Fourthly, Meleys leg was dangling due to being broken from Vhagar's hold.
Lastly, Vhagar has more battle experience. What battle experience does Rheanys have? Do you know? What dragon has she fought?

Second once they are foot to foot Meleys climbs around Vhagar moving closer to Vhagar so her flames can’t reach her as directly. Third once Meleys sees the ground is close enough for Vhagar not to be able to recover she lets go and flies away. Fourth I never saw that, Vhagar surprised attacked Meleys and grabbed her neck, Meleys was still trying to grab Vhagar with her claws last I saw.
Finally they say it, Meleys is Team Blacks most battle hardened dragon and with Rhaenys as her rider, yeah they have more experience.
Vhagar is bigger. It Meleys is faster with more battle experienced fighting
"Could have won", not a single chance against Vhagar, that dragon was already at war during Aegon's conquest. Saying that Meleys has more experience is like saying Samwell Tarly had more fighting experience than prime Barristan Selmy it doesnt make sense.
Sure she gave him a good fight but it wasnt anywhere near close to what happened in the book. In fact Aemond never Dracarysed his brother at all, he just went straight to Meleys and destroyed her in less than a minute. I ain't mad about the show version cause it was entertaining af but the "Could have won" is just too much
In the books Rhaenys gets surprice attacked by Aemond and Aegon both. She then goes kamikaze on Aegon and dies after her heroic fight. She had no chance to survive and therefor focused on the King.
Also "Big Boy Dragon" is a she, Vhagar :) Previoustly ridden by Laena (Daemons wife), Baelon (father of Viserys and Daemon) and of course the Dragon fighter and Queen Visenya. She also own Dark Sister, tha valyrian steel sword that Daemon has.
Rhaenys called Alyn’s mother beautiful because she’s assuming Corlys only cheated on her with a beautiful woman. She did not call Alyn beautiful to hit on him or anything like that.
The death of Rhaenys crushed my heart more than any Hotd or Game of Thrones episode I ever watched. She said "attack Melys" very determined to die. Cause she knew there's not much left for her to do in her age. She learned about her husband's cheating (she saw the bastard son), people called her "The Queen that never was" and she didn't want to live a rotting old woman's life but die a dragonrider's death. All Hail Rhaenys!

So to answer ur question as to why she went back. She went there to help out the men at the castle if she leaves she would be abandoning her soldiers. Also her dragon is 1 dragon that actually did have a chance to win. Its stated in the books against vhagar she stands a chamce but agaimst both its certain doom. Also if she manages to either kill aemond and or vhagar the war is over that is their strongest weapon. Id aemond is killed vhagar would go back to being riderless and would fly away. So she couldnt leave she had to stamd and fight for her troops if she leaves what reason do they have to keep loyalty to her. She also probably fealt guilty for not burning them in season 1.

Alicent is more resentful than ever of Aegon now that she knows she ripped the realm up due to her husband telling her 1/2 a nursery rhyme. She always knew Aegon wasn’t right for the throne and Rhaenyra confirmed it. So she feels dumb. PLUS she trying to take Plan B tea after (it appears) she’s already pregnant. Plan B don’t work like that (or so I’m told) and she doesn’t respect Cole anymore, so she’s troubled about that too.
Oh well, all her own fault.
Vhagar was born at DragonStone before Aegon’s conquest but after Valyria perished. The only Dragon of the Targaryen family who survived and was born before the doom of Valyria was Balerion the black dread. He was young when Deanys the dreamer claimed him and she forsaw the doom. Her father believed her and moved the whole family to DragonStone. Later he became Aegon the first’s dragon, then Viserys dragon. Viserys claimed him when Balerion was very old, took him on his last ride, before the dragon died. Thats why Viserys did not have a dragon in season 1, It was in front of his skull that he explained the prophecy to Rhaenyra after making her his heir.

I commented the same thing at a different channel, I couldn’t understand why she would keep going despite the odds, but it was pointed out to me that Rhaenys might have felt guilty for not roasting the greens in the first season (Daemon pointed it out on the first episode of this season).
Also, it would lower morale for her to just leave while the men on the ground are fighting for you
When it comes to laena she was most likley dead anyways. She was in the same position viserys wife was in in episode 1. The difference is viserys was worried about if the child would survive. Daemon asked if laena would live. She decided instead of dieing in childbirth she wanted a dragon riders death.
Right? I don’t understand how anyone could blame Daemon for Leana’s death. If he had C-Section knowledge and refused then fine, but that wasn’t the case 😅
You guys hear what you want to hear. The maester had already told Viserys that Aemma was not going to survive. So why would he ask, like a moron, if she would survive? Obviously he would ask about his child who had a chance. For Daemon, the Maesters hadn't told him Laena was gonna die.

But it was Leana’s decision to die in her form of glory which isn’t in a bed during childbirth. SHE knew something was wrong and SHE chose to go out in flames. Bc more often than not a complicated birth, losing too much blood, or a breach kills the mother.
It had nothing to do with Daemon or her existing children. She told him even before she went into labor that’s how she wished to die. So it’s unreasonably weird to blame Daemon for that.

Rhaenys stayed to fulfill her duty, protecting Rook’s Rest and its people from the Hightower/Greens' destruction driven by Aemond/Vhagar. Her presence was the only thing standing between them and certain annihilation. Sunfyre is a great dragon, I am sad that we did not explore his relationship with Aegon the usurper... BTW Aemond was definitely trying to kill Aegon, but he is counting on plausible deniability in "heat of battle" and "friendly-fire"....

Rhaenys didn't kill the Greens in season one because it wasn't her war to start.
And she didn't return to Dragonstone during this battle because her mission was to protect the castle AND she had the (small but existing) chance to take Vaghar and Aemond out.
She wasn't stupid for at least trying to end the war right there.

In war Harrenhall is definitely one of those castles you need to have under your side. It doesn’t matter if it’s a run down castle it’s key to the Riverlands. They explained this already in previous episodes.

I tbh think rhaenys stayed for multiple reasons, I think she stayed because her orders were to defend her queens allies and castle, she can’t just flee because reinforcements arrive, I also think she did it so her grandchildren and the younger generation wouldn’t have to fight, her dragon could have killed vhagar indeed, she was quicker, smaller, and battle hardened and was indeed the best option they had at the time, sending more than her could end up with Jace or rhaenyra or baela killed as their dragons have not been to war plus they have no other riders besides them
