  • As already seen, we had the crankshaft oil seal facing the wrong way, while the mainshaft seal behind the clutch was completely absent! Also, on reassembly, it turned out all three clutch springs were of different lengths and types, which wouldn't have done much for the clutch. With all of these faults attended to, it is hoped that the oil in the primary case might stay in there and maybe the clutch might not slip anymore. I also fitted the new spark plug, in case it had anything to do with that occasional misfire.

    It just goes to prove that you should never throw away any old parts. Its easy to say that they might come in handy some day but it does actually happen.

    Who on earth wouldn’t notice those three springs? Bit of a joke really. But on a par with fitting oil seals the wrong way round and other horrors.

    No grease nipple on subframe bolt on end of swinging arm.
