Fowler's Toad calling

Once the sun went down the toad's came out! I was leaving Floyd's Fork Creek in Broad Run Park located in Louisville, KY when I was greeted by this guy. As time went on I was greeted by over 40 toads and they were serenading me with their mating call.

Aww, those noises! I've kept a Fowler's Toad in the past and she was absolutely delightful, but never made a sound...I now have a juvenile of which I believe is a male! Maybe he'll grow up to be a loud little buster like these! 😂

How do they know when to make their calls? I had some as pets and they would never do it for some reason

It's the time of year when they do their mating calls. Not sure about pets though. Did you have a male and female?

Females cant call. But males can. They usually only respond to other calls.
