On my 2007 ridgeline I just removed the plastic covers under a/c compressor. It was easy after that .
You just brought me up to speed I just picked up a 2011 Ridgeline and the heated seats do not work now I understand where the relay is and I want to see if I can troubleshoot why the heated seats don't work thank you and my next thing is when it gets warmer I want to check the air conditioning
I changed the AC Clutch on my RL and when trying to install the snap ring to hold in the pulley I had to removed the compressor from its mounts to angle the right angle for the pliers. I was able to angle the compressor toward the lower passenger side and could have completely removed it. there was a bracket that was in the way. but that was just 3 bolts. only had to removed two and loosen the 3rd and swung it out of the way. This seems to be a lot less work than taking the radiator out.
Like I said in the video, everything was very rusted. What wasn't shown was one of the compressor mounting bolts was siezed and broke off. I had to remove the bracket, drill and retap that hole along with buy a new bolt from Honda....
2 of the fan mounting bolts also broke which also needed to be repaired... If I could have gotten the passenger fan out, I wouldn't have needed to remove the radiator.
This project was more about repairing rusted parts than anything.
Perhaps it's a coincidence but I decreased the front of my engine including the AC compressor, then I replace the clutch. After that I was letting the vehicle run and it just released all the freon. I figured it was the AC clutch and ended up replacing the entire compressor, when I try to add more Freon it just leaked out massive hole. I assume it's our hoping it's the switch also I didn't have to take anything out to remove those compressors just one of the brackets on the bottom needed to be moved slightly
Degreased
What if im not getting a 12v power read when i hook up to the relay a.c.? It only goes to about 3v. Did you say thats possibly a pressure switch? I have enough pressure and i was able to check my high end pressure switch and i think its fine. Would a faulty pressure switch give a low voltage reading at the relay? I have to find my low pressure switch. My a.c. would work sometimes, then stop working, then start blowing cold again. I checked the pressure and it was way into the red. I have since relieved it now the pressure is in the green. But the clutch is not engaging. The clutch spins with my hand, so its not locked up. I am also getting 12 v to the clutch.
The high and low pressure switch are the same unit. If the pressure was going into the red, that means the high side was working and shut the system off to keep it from popping.
If there's 12v at the clutch, then there's 12v at the relay. I'm not sure how much voltage is sent on the trigger side.
The clutch needs to move in/out to engage/disengage. If you're seeing 12v at the clutch and it isn't moving, then that is the problem.
Yes, the compressor deserves the finger. I would never have thought to take it out from the top. I replaced all my A/C components last summer....wasn't too bad...don't wanna do it again though. I am in Southern MD, so it gets a bit warm.
I didn't show it in the video but the reason the compressor got the finger was because one of the bolts holding it on seized and then snapped off Had to drill/tap it out from the mount and order a new one. The mount is aluminum so it wasn't difficult but still....
Really it was rust/corrosion that made that fairly straight forward task 50x harder than it needed to be.
I have a 2011 Ridge. The A/C compressor only comes on when I rev the engine over 2k rpm. At idle, it never kicks on. I had the compressor replaced, evac/refill and cleaned the condenser.. Same result. Any ideas?
Probably a bad AC pressure switch. Cheap/easy to replace but the Freon in the system has to be drained and refilled again to swap it out.
Thanks. It looks like my compressor clutch does need to be replaced. How many hours is the mechanic going to charge me for when I take it in
I don't know. It took me about 4 hours to swap and that was without knowing exactly what I was doing. That also doesn't include the time to drain and refill the Freon.
Are they going to use a new compressor clutch or a rebuilt one. And I think I want to stay away from a one from the junkyard right?
I would go with the one I linked. It's the OEM part without the Honda upcharge and you get a warranty with it if there's any issues.
Can you put a 2010 Honda Ridgeline motor in a 2006 Honda Ridgeline
The motor will physically bolt in, but I know there were several changes from 08-09. I can't say for sure you can just swap it in and have all the electrical connectors plug in.
compressor oil added?
This one came "preoiled". Oil is also added when the system is recharged.
did you ever replace the radiator? (I assume you are familiar with the SMOD [strawberry milkshake of death] issue documented on the ridgeline owner club forums)
Nah never heard of it. Never been on the forums honestly... I'm assuming strawberry is red which is tranny fluid? Guessing that can leak into the coolant in the radiator? I didn't find any issues with either fluid mixing when I had it out. Just leaves....
@@whiteroosterproductions5986 yeah there is an issue with 10+ year old radiators where corrosion attacks the transmission pre-cooler fittings into the lower part of the radiator. Can internally corrode through and cause transmission fluid/water mixing.

@@zerog2000 Wow that's good to know! Thank you! I have to pull the radiator again anyway to do motor mounts and the 200K service. I'll look into a new one. Great topic for another video too!
We had to put them down. Too aggressive with the hens.
Did your checkered chicken become a delicious dinner?
Cool vid but you can actually take out the compressor fairly easy thru the bottom without having to take anything else off just jack the car up a bit an also you didn't cover anything on the condensor thats what was wrong with mine after I went thru everything else smh
Uh…. AC Clutch was seized and wouldn’t come off (explained and shown in the video).
While this engine is used in multiple Honda and Acura vehicles, the spacing on these 1G Ridgelines requires at least the AC fans come out. The video explained the issue of the fan bolts being rusted and rather than breaking them, the whole radiator was removed. Which is also faster/easier than struggling with trying to work with it in place…..
I just didn't like your music!
