    An easy to follow and simple tutorial, thank you for sharing.
    I would add one small suggestion to countersink the frame screw holes so the screw heads don’t protrude from the back.

      @@TheCreativeGlow What I loved is that you used corner molding, genius! Is much cheaper and easier than using 1 by 2 hardwood base, Then adding quarter inch lattice piecesTo the outside of the frame. not to mention all the time you save gluing and cutting and measuring.

    This is the best floating frame tutorial I've been able to find in my browsing today. The majority of them were provided by people who were working in a professional shop equipped with professionally provided tools. You were able to create your floating frame with equipment that an artist would use trying to frame their own art. I appreciate your clear instruction and the reality that you provided because you made it accessible and I am grateful.

    Thank god I found this tutorial. Everyone else made it too complicated for someone like me living in an apartment. For the cutting portion I think I can just use a mitre box with a hand saw. The rest I'm following to the T, thanks!!!!

  • @trobop1
    @trobop1 Před 3 lety +3

    This is PERFECT. I will say I dont have a chop saw so I am using a Miter Box and hand saw. It can be done this way to save money but I will say be sure to have plenty of clamps to hold you wood in the miter box as I had ALOT of sanding to try to fix my errors.

    • @TheCreativeGlow
      @TheCreativeGlow  Před 3 lety

      Yes, I've used a mitre box to make 45s on another very large project once, and the angles definitely were not great! But it can be done if you know how to tackle it! Thanks for letting everyone know!

Nothing is worse than finding a DIY video where the equipment used is so professional that it would cost way more to get the material than to buy the frame. Thanks again and keep up the good work!

    Without a doubt this is by FAR the BEST tutorial on how to build a floater frame - aimed at the average person! Step-by-step, and suitable for someone (like me) who doesn’t have a full workshop or a ton of experience working with wood. Love that it’s Canadian based as well. Definitely picking up one of those clamps from Canadian Tire. I have purchased similar frames from one of our art supply stores and although I appreciate the convenience, I have found that they work best for their specific brand of canvases . Thank you - GREAT WORK!

I still need my table saw for thicker 24 x 36 frames but you just saved me a LOT of time for the smaller ones. And I bought that exact clamp from CT. What an absolute time and annoyance saver, especially when it is on sale! I bought it in December 2021 when it was 50% off ($9!!!) Well worth it for anyone.

    This was an extremely well done tutorial. I have a huge piece of art stretched on a canvas, which will sit inside a window sill & function as a window blind. Since the art piece is about 4" smaller than the inside of the sill, I'll need to create a frame that will allow for a gentle "friction fit" on the sides of the frame. I doubt the corner moulding will be wide enough to fill the gap, but I'll look for one in a thick size. This tutorial showed me what I needed to know - as I figure out what material will give the depth of moulding needed. The lightness of a floating frame is a big plus, & the way it can feature & enhance the art is great. Thank you.

      Don’t be scared, you can do it no problem! Just a note though: if you’re going to make it a larger size like you mentioned, you’ll likely need to add at least one cross bar across the center to create more strength for the longer frame arms. This is something I’d like to make an update video on… unfortunately haven’t had the time so far, some testing is needed. Others have commented that they have done so.

    Wow Great idea Thank you much for sharing it! This is perfect for someone like me because my studio is in my apt and I can’t make much mess lol, there is enough with the painting, the only thing for me is that I will have to try a hand saw but other than that is absolutely great ! And I will be able to customize my frames accordingly.Thanks Thanks and Thanks 😊

    Thanks so much for sharing this, great how-to tutorial. I really like the look of floater frames and using corner moulding makes it so much easier to get it. Too bad I can't post a photo but it turned out fantastic. I made one for a 30" x 60" print and if anyone else is thinking to make larger frames I suggest sand, stain, varnish each piece before gluing and clamping the corners. The longer the lengths of moulding the more flex they have which stresses the corners and eventually they separate, as I soon found out. I also added flat L-corner braces to help reinforce the corners with #6, 3/8 wood screws. Cost? $100 for the corner moulding & screws. Wood $ has gone up! :)

      Thank you for sharing all your suggestions on making larger versions; this is something I’d like to address in a future update video, but haven’t had the time to do so, so I really appreciate this!!! I’m glad you liked my tutorial and it was helpful to you! 😊 I just checked the price of the moulding, it’s now $5.24/ft (2022), compared to the $3.something/ft I talked about in the video. Wow! But it’s still cheaper than buying pre-made, if you like a little project to do. :)
