    MY OPINION INCOMING:
    My thoughts on who should be the next bond is as follows.
    A white British actor. Not really sure who I'd pick exactly. I do not want a black James Bond, not because I'm racist or anything but because Bond has always been written as white. If they cast a black actor as Bond it will only be to please the people who want a black actor because it's black.
    I don't want a female actor to be cast either for the same reason.

      exactly, a black guy could be a good bond but then again we aren't going to get a white guy to play a black character. making bond black just for the sake of making it diverse isn't very good

    James Bond cannot be black or female. If you read Ian Flemings description of Bond and see the sketch commissioned by him of the Bond character it is clear that he is a white male born in Germany to a Scottish father and Swiss mother. It would be ludicrous to alter the character substantially. I would never go see a Bond movie that did so. Would you do the same thing to the character of Alan Quartermain? No, didn't think so.

      @Delboy0 Před 8 lety

      +Mavila Have you seen films about Egypt where they get white actors to play Egyptians when they where never white? James Bond is a fictional character so can be any colour the producer wants. People complain about James Bond being black, but don't complain about white washing. So that means you are certainly a racist who believes only white people can be heroes in movies.

    • @mavla4262
      @mavla4262 Před 8 lety +1

      Delboy0 Well I did mention Black Panther who is a black superhero, and would not like to see anyone who isn't black not play him, cause that is how the character is portrayed

    • @Delboy0
      @Delboy0 Před 8 lety +1

      Mavila Black Panther is an African character and there are very few black superheroes. They have kinda already white washed Storm, who is meant to be African but is played by mixed raced actresses. James Bond is just a British spy, Britain has black people so why wouldn't they have a spy who is black called James Bond. That is very different to Black panther. The fact is White Male heroes are overrepresented and many white people want it to stay that way.

    • @mavla4262
      @mavla4262 Před 8 lety +3

      +Delboy0 I get what you're saying since there's white people in Africa They should play African characters too

    • @Delboy0
      @Delboy0 Před 8 lety

      Mavila You don't get my point. There are very few black superheroes, so to make one of them white is morally wrong, but still happens. Edge of Tomorrow was set in Japan but they made the movie with white actors. Ghost in the Shell is also set in Japan, but this is being made with white actors. There are plenty of white male spies, what is the big problem with making one black instead?

  • @CristiNeagu
    @CristiNeagu Před 8 lety +94

    I don't see how you can explain the fact that Bond suddenly turns black, or he's grown a pair of boobs in the meanwhile. Just make a new series of spy movies with these actors. I would really like to see a movie with a female version of Bond. Reminds me of "No one lives forever: A spy in harm's way".

    • @cnwd3295
      @cnwd3295 Před 8 lety +14

      I don't know how Sir Roger Moore transformed into Daniel Craig. I agree that there shouldn't be a Jane Bond, but I think a black 007 would be possible.

    • @CristiNeagu
      @CristiNeagu Před 8 lety

      Connor Doogan Well, you could sort of explain it by saying that the new movies are stories from Bond's younger years. You just need to ignore the technology gap, which is sort of acceptable. But making him into a completely different person is just weird.
      Now, I think it is very likely that a Bond movie starring a black actor would be a really good movie by itself, but it would be sort of like The Hobbit. Those are great movies, but when taken in with the rest of Lord of the Rings series there's something missing.

    • @burntgrahamcracker2866
      @burntgrahamcracker2866 Před 8 lety +7

      It helps narrative wise if you think of James Bond as a code name and 007 as his rank. Interestingly they wanted Connery to come back for sky fall as an sort of wink to the audience but said people would be confused

    • @CristiNeagu
      @CristiNeagu Před 8 lety +1

      jack brearley Well, i wouldn't have a problem with another actor taking up the 007 code, no matter of color or gender. But naming them James Bond (or Jane Bond, presumably)... i dunno.

    • @Delboy0
      @Delboy0 Před 8 lety +10

      +Cristi Neagu Hasn't James Bond been Australian, Irish, Scottish, English ? Hasn't he had Dark hair with Brown eyes, then dark hair with blue eyes and now Blond with blues. If James Bond has change appearance so much what is wrong with him becoming black?
      It seems more like racial protectionalism where white people don't want ethnic heroes. The same people who complain about Bond becoming black or black people in Stars Wars, never complain about white washing of ethnic characters, so they don't complain about Egyptians being played by white actors, Japanese Comic book characters being played by Emily Blunt, Tom Cruise and Scarlett Johansson.

      @fredrika27 Před 8 lety +1

      +Robert Gronewold Although that would be a good idea, I think it would be unfair to audiences of all ages to make Bond's boss so young. They did that with the characters of Q played by Ben Whishaw, age 30 and with C played by Andrew Scott, age 35. Both character look like nerdy school boys and play into outdated stereotypes, giving nothing interesting to their characters except being typecast as bumbling fools.
      Typcasting an Austrian as the villain demonstrates that Barbara Broccoli is running out of fresh casting ideas. However you have to give her credit for casting Monica Bellucci as a Bond girl. This went against the traditional trend of older man-younger woman, casting someone who was age appropriate and did not offend the audiences' sensibilities when the younger bond actress is barely out of her teens!
      With the exception of Ms. Money Penny played by Naomie Harris, the actors are mostly European despite the movie playing to a global audience with increasing revenues in Africa and Asia. Such casting really can't go on today and shows just how entrenched race and class are in British society. It appears they just can't shake it!
      As the film just started last week in Germany, I hope to see improvements in all the supporting characters and am excited about Bellucci's and Harris's roles. In short there are just too many baby faces. Have a balanced cast of international actors play to a globalized and diverse audience. As for the new M, Ralph Fiennes, I didn't like him in Harry Potter. Return the role of M to a woman. Helen Bohman Carter or Marina Sirtis come to mind! At least in this way it balances out the roles of the women by having someone brassy and sensible as Bond's boss.

    James Bond is a basic British stereotype of a white man who is handsome and charming. I personally don't think that they should change the image dramatically because it makes the films what they are and if they were to do so, it would give it more of a diverse feeling although it's a classic and it shouldn't change under any circumstances!

    It's funny how folks are happy for Bond's actor to be Welsh, Irish, Scottish, and even Australian, but if you suggest that he could be played by someone with slightly more melanin, suddenly they're all "I'M NOT RACIST BUT-"
    My only concern with Elba as Bond would be his age. He's only four years younger than Daniel Craig, so I can see a risk that he wouldn't do more than a couple of films before people might consider him too old to be plausible in the role. Roger Moore in 'A View to a Kill', anyone? But on the other hand, 'tough old guy' characters can be pretty awesome, and it'd be a chance to explore Bond's career from a seasoned veteran's perspective.

    They already rebooted a white character with a black actress - Moneypenny. I think rebooting another main character, who is white, with a black actor is unnecessary. And while I adore Emily Blunt in pretty much everything she's in, she's not Bond. There has to be at least some consistency between the actors who play 007. Instead of changing existing characters into different races and sexes, why don't you spend your energy pushing for NEW franchises, with women and PoC main characters?

    This film was it for Daniel. Surely anyone who has seen the ending of it and some of his promo interviews can see that? I think it's become much clearer now (or maybe just to me) that 007/James Bond is a name/title given to a spy who fits a certain 'mould' (maverick, womanising, orphan)...There's probably a panel in M16 who sit around x factor style once one has died/gone off with a woman/retired and decide who is going to be promoted to be the next 007...

    I think Tom Hardy will be next in line because he'll draw more attention than anyone else on the roster. Definitely too soon for a fem Bond, if that happened you could expect another Lazenby. Hmm, there is a chance Broccoli could try and jump on the drama diversity initiative and cast Idris Elba but unlikely. I can tell you this though, we'll never have another Daniel Craig; an actor given the most prolific action movie character in the world simply because he's a great actor. That's a gamble in itself, no pun intended (casino royal).

And it would be interesting to see how David could add a cheekiness and wit to Bond. And it would be a switch similar to his Broadchurch role. • @gewgulkansuhckitt9086
    @gewgulkansuhckitt9086 Před 8 lety +2

    If they go female, they shouldn't make any pretense that she is "Jane Bond" or try to pretend that she's always been 007. Instead, just make her the next 007. Acknowledge that she succeeds Daniel Craig's character and they both exist in the same universe. Of course, they could have her be a relative of James Bond in which case her name might actually be "Jane Bond". Or perhaps when it comes time to give her a cover identity, she might be given the false name of "Jane Bond" because of sentimentality on the part of J.B.'s friends still in MI6 or because she models herself on James Bond.
    Also, some of James Bond's character traits would be very strange in a female agent. James Bond has to woo beautiful women. Admittedly he tends to get them in the end, but it would be a little weird with a female Bond. I'm not talking about a double standard here. Rather I am referring to how very little challenge it would be for a beautiful female spy to lure men to bed. You wouldn't feel she'd won a victory any more difficult than shooting fish in a barrel. And of course there is something of a double standard, even today. Many viewers will see her as a slut, not as a charming, charismatic agent. And James Bond's personality is often extremely unfeminine with a lot of hard edges.
    A black 007 could work. Any of the black actors suggested would probably do a fine job. Again, I think that from here on out they should not pretend that every 007 is the only one ever to exist. All successive 007's should acknowledge the ones that came before (starting with Daniel Craig who was a reboot of the original). So if Emily Blount is the next 007, she will be written as Daniel Craig's successor. If Idris Elba succeeds her, he might make references to the previous 007 being a woman, etc.
    I realize this would mean something of a departure from the books, but so what? If one actor did all the books, he'd have to start as James Bond fresh out of high school and he'd be filming the last book (there were 14 of them) in his 60's.
