I sure do appreciate all your “how to”, “how come”, and “what for” videos in the bearding world. When I first began growing my beard, I began to notice that there were products for the beard, but I had no clue what they did, what their purpose was, and how to apply them. Sure they come with instructions, but that really doesn’t tell much. At first I bought beard butter. But then my son in law told me about balms. So I tried it. But it wasn’t until after I began watching your videos packed with information about the products, how to use, and what their purpose is for my beard. Thank you, Trusted Teacher, for the positivity, and for continuing to educate me!
Thanks for this great video Dan and I greatly appreciate it for including our product in it. You hit every nail on the head. In our classification, there are 5 product categories (and we've got the 3 categories in our range for now) from no hold to strong hold. Oil, butter, balm, beard wax and mustache wax. When it comes to balm, we indicate a lot of times that it's not meant for styling at all and a balm shouldn't offer anything but very light hold that dissipates within a short time. After all, you don't expect other "balm" products in cosmetics to offer any sort of hold and styling. Take for example skin balm, after shave balm, hair balm, lip balm, hand balm etc. Nothing in these products have anything to do with styling and neither should beard balm. And this is where our company stands. Balm needs to be about conditioning with a very light hold that feels natural and doesn't shape the beard and doesn't feel heavy in any way. Now, our beard wax is meant for shaping and not for sculpting the beard. This is why we insist on having the "medium hold" indication on the packaging. Beard wax needs to have enough wax for shaping without making the beard look and feel in any way unnatural while offering nourishment. Mustache wax on the other hand, needs to have, IMO, strong hold, much stronger than a beard wax, and enough wax for those handlebars. The SEVEN POTIONS beard wax is something between beard balm and mustache wax, or as some guys might say, a "heavy duty" beard balm. Happy to hear your thoughts. - John
I couldn't agree any more! A lot of people in the comments have asked if they can use mustache wax in place of beard wax. I commented well before this comment and answered them IMO mustache wax is stronger than beard wax. Without ever discussing this with you or any other company, sounds like we are on the same exact page! I am absolutely loving your beard wax, keep up the great work!
I've been using Honest Amish Beard Wax since the beginning of my beard journey. When my beard was shorter, it was really crazy and I needed that super strong hold. Honest Amish has a regular balm, more of a butter, a heavy duty balm, more of a regular balm, an extra grit balm, which is just plain weird, and a wax. Still use it on days when I don't want my beard to move. I don't really see much difference between a beard wax and a mustache wax, except for the containers.
I've noticed the same thing. Most beard waxes and mustache waxes have the same level of hold and could be called the same thing. There are only a few companies I've found that have a strong finishing wax worthy of its name.
I absolutely agree. When I first started my bearded style and made several purchases based on what the label said ( butter vs balm) only to be disappointed after. This would definitely help clarify things, especially to new beardsmen!
Dan C, your earlier video on oil, balm, and butter: when and how, was among the first “beard industry” videos I saw when I decided to to let my beard grow. Just when I hit 10 weeks growth I found I needed more control and I saw your review of 7 Potions wax, and ordered some. It comes today so this tutorial fits my timetable exactly. Thank you so much. BTW, I think you’re right on target with your categories 👍👍‼️
I love you. Only demonstrative beard video that truly explains what the deal is with beard wax. I have Seven Potions. It's fine. Do need the pick! Thanks for all you do for bearded guys!
First business first - "Hi, Jax!" Now, I absolutely agree with your categorization of butters > balms > waxes. I have been confused and confounded by the differences in products I've tried. I've even taken some and added oils to soften some balms into "butters". Having standards would be a huge help. And, there is no one better to author and sponsor some standard definitions than Dan C!
Something congruent to the scoville scale for peppers would be nice to show how much hold a product has. That would require a universal code of agreement between all companies and I know that's entirely unrealistic, but you can't deny; that would be incredibly helpful.
Or, we bearded brothers could encourage companies to align with a suggested standard. After all, they're selling to us! I'm in favor of Dan C's definitions of the product types - butters, balms, and waxes. Obviously, oils should be included, too. Maybe Dan C could do a video dedicated to the topic of beard product standards (hint hint). Then have several beard product reviewers collaborate on them and then encourage product companies to consider adhering to the standards for ease of understanding by bearded community. All good, right?
Flexible wedding ring. 👍 I had to give a salute before I clicked play on this one. I have the same issue with the control below the sideburns. Looks like I got caught in an updraft. Did you find any negatives to using more than what you show in the video? Any greasyness? Honest Amish has no staying power after about an hour. I'll be ordering some Fable mustache wax during your show and give that a shot.
I agree with ya in a sense. I just hate having to buy so many different products for my beard. Just seems easier to use butter for conditioning, and either a balm or wax for styling. They need to call it one or the other. No need for 2 products to condition with different set of standards imo
Great video! I used honest amish beard wax the same way. That honest amish sent does tend to last lots longer with their wax, but I don't mind it. I 100% agree with you on the naming of the different beard product catagories. Waxes could even be broken into a training wax and finishing wax. Many companies say they have a very firm hold mustache wax when it is more of a training wax than a sculpting wax.
I’m glad you brought this subject up! My beard is getting to a pretty good length now and I’ve been battling the curls pretty hard. I actually have the Detroit grooming wax and I definitely need to start using that again! Beard on brotha!👊🏻💯🔥
I absolutely agree w/your category assessment. It was not an easy thing to figure out when I first got into using products. Enjoy yourself next week - nothing like quality family time.
Hi Dan! I just received a small tin of mustache wax from Don Porfirio in the mail. Wow, it is a tiny tin. No pun intended. Anyway, my mustache and beard are relatively new, about two months old, so I need to really control my mustache. A lot of smallish hairs still go in all directions when I use beard balm. So, I figured I needed something that provided more control. Anyway, I needed to use my fingernail to get the mustache wax out of the tin. Then I tried to warm it up and liquefy it by rubbing my hands together vigorously. Nothing happened except I created a small ball of wax. I continued rubbing my hands more briskly, and then the small amount of wax in my hands broke into several smaller pellets. I realized I was just kneading these pellets. One even fell on the floor! The mustache wax was unusable. My wife suggested I try placing the wax in a spoon and heating it with a cigarette lighter to actually melt the wax and then apply it to my mustache. Your thoughts & suggestions, please? Thanks.
Dan C Teaching and Preaching!!!! I agree with you on how they should be broken down. As a business beard, I want a strong hold and hate having to sort through balms. Quick question how does the seven potions beard wax compare vs JC Grooming’s balm which is a very strong hold? Cheers buddy.
Most definitely! As you said, some balms should be butters and some wax. It was tough sometimes to find a good beard wax when you're a newbie because these companies would use the word balm and make it an umbrella term when some were in fact more butter like or wax like. Great video DanC!
Lol I only ran into an issue once. I needed a strong hold and without putting attention i got heavy duty honest amish and realised it was a strong conditioner. Then I got mountaineer heavy duty balm and got a wax lol love both products I was just confused for a sec. Would be easier if they named them beard wax, there's a few that are strong hold and dont know thinking their just medium balms and surprised later by hold. I oil first let it set then balm and was if I'm getting ready for a long day or night. Or either I just use oil and balm. You always need to get the set. Some dont mix well and some actually do. Gotta try to see what balms to mix with other oils. Great review teach.
great demonstration Dan! early on when i started using these products i got confused wich was what between the balm and butter, then sometime after i began realizing to tell the difference was in the shape of the container, like those balms (strictly for styling) tin containers that are more "flat" shaped such as that seven potions, and balm for conditioning were in an actual jar container. Hi Jax!
Dan, you are 1000% right. Companies need to be more consistent about what they call what. A good example of this is Scotch Porter's balm. It is a lotion type texture and it has no beeswax in it. The only ingredient with wax in the name is emulsifying wax, what ever that is. Lol. It is way down on the ingredient list. Dont get me wrong I love the product. It feels great in my beard but I use it for nourishment only at night not what I expect from a balm. Probably should be called a butter. Thanks for everything you do.
I agree with you completely on this topic. I don't like that they're isn't a definitive answer on what constitutes as a butter, balm and wax. A butter should be simple and have no beeswax, but if it does it needs to be the last ingredient and have very little. I suppose it all comes down to how much beeswax and the type of beeswax used in the product. If we don't come up with a industry-standard then the company needs to specify if it's a conditioning or styling balm. Then again if it's coditioning then it should technically be called a butter. All I can say is it's a problem and we need to fix it.
I agree with you. Sometimes I get tired of trying to figure out the hold of a product. Be nice if they all said wax balm, or butter to let u know the hold. Just like making different thickness of oils would be nice to. Great video stay positive brother.
I agree that the definition of beard balm is to wide. I feel like a balm should have a hold. A medium hold. Butter = none to light hold, Balm = medium hold, Wax = strong hold. I personally don't like light hold balms because I feel like I just drench my beard and face with oil. Beard balms to me should feel like you're putting something on (like a "grippy" feeling) rather than "slicking" something on. Waxes should be like a "heavy duty" thing for bigger beards/out of control beards with hairs that have a mind of their own. If you have a "balm" that emulsifies as soon as you get it out the tin then should be a butter, not a balm. I would only use that at night or on lazy stay at home days. I feel like JC Grooming and The Luxurious Bastard have very good definitions of a balm: good hold, feels nice, emulsifies with some work, and conditions. It has that "grippy" feel I mentioned before. However, Man Beard Co. and Honest Amish for example have balms that emulsify as soon as it's in your palm. Because of that and the texture, I consider their balms to be butters. They're highly conditioning and have no hold to a light hold. So if the beard game had a more solidified definition on what a beard balm should feel like then it would be a lot better. You always know what type of consistency you're going to get when going for whatever product. But as it stands right now, the Seven Potions balm to me is a balm. From the way it looked and emulsified in your hand, it's a product that I consider to be a balm even if it DOES have a light hold.
I wish more companies offered it. I've been using a tiny amount of grave before shave mustache wax after using balm to keep my sides laying down. I had about a 10" beard and cut it off at Christmas and am growing it out again. It is very tempting to trim the sides and I probably would if I didn't have wax. I will have to try the 7 potions. I find I usually want more hold than I can get with most balms.
Totally agree with your categorizing idea. And maybe until the industry gets onboard with this, have a website with a table listing the companies, the products they have, and the actual category it should be in. Make the links affiliate and you can generate some passive income that way.
I totally agree Dan, when I first started growing a beard I bought my first 'balm' from bulldog. Now after know more, it resembles a butter more than a balm. And now, I don't even use it, it is actually still almost full.
Being in the UK Seven Potions is the first beard brand I've used and i love their oil and balm. Not tried their wax but thanks to your video it will be on my next amazon order.
Great vid Dan I recently got some mountaineer brand "heavy duty" beard balm and it is almost certainly a wax. Their other balm is "magic" and I just wasn't sure what that meant 😂 Very happy with my purchase. I'm a guy that likes a strong hold.
Lol I ran into this issue to. But great issue hahaha then I mistakenly got heavy duty honest amish and it was a soft conditioner lol lo e both products.
My problem is a frizzy beard. No matter what shampoo, conditioner, butter, balm or wax or what quantity of these I Employ I still get that friz. Mine is about a 3 1/2 inch beard. I’m thinking of growing out another half inch to perhaps a full inch. I just received the seven potions woodland Harmony yesterday. I love the smell but it doesn’t seem to be making a difference on my beard. I had such high hopes. I also picked up an Aberlite beard straightener. Nothing can get this beard to lay flat and somewhat orderly.
I agree with your category system. At the moment, I identify a product as a butter if it has no wax or if wax is the last ingredient before scents. Balms have wax higher in the ingredients list, and waxes are usually named as such. Your assessment would be very helpful and would eliminate some guesswork on my part.
The Bearded Goon beard wax 🙌. I’ve only subscribed to the channel for a few months so I don’t know if you’ve reviewed it yet, but of the wax’s I’ve tried so far (seven potions included) it is the longest lasting and strongest hold by a landslide.
Great video. I agree with the need to get on the same page. I just got some Fresh Beards balm, and while I like the scent (Black Light) it’s a bit too firm and stiff to be what I would call a true balm. Takes a looong time to emulsify in my hands.
Stylish-lookin' hat ya got there, Dan! I could definitely see myself havin' one of those if another run comes around. Also props on the silicone ring! I've got a few of those myself; pretty cool eh? If every beard company developed products from zero hold on up to "statue" hold, I think it'd definitely help paint a complete picture for a beardsman with a beard that is either super unruly and/or can be pushed around, and maybe wants a one-stop shopping experience. Alternatively, if everyone (or most everyone) could come together on a slider scale to park somewhere on the product pages of their sites, it could help give someone a better idea on what product they're getting themselves into. Kinda like how if you look on some mattress websites for example, you see their soft-to-firm rating on a 0-10 value. That could help if a company maybe doesn't want to add a wax to their line for whatever reason, or if they have a pretty firm balm as-is. In either case, another great video and a great reminder for me that Seven Potions makes a wax. We're entering the "season of wind" so that could be a real help.
I agree 100% I've found a few and I'm sure there are plenty more that are wrong on their products description. In no way am I bashing them, but Scotch Porter is a perfect example. Granted, I love their products (conditioner and "serum" are my favorites) but the balm although very conditioning in my opinion should be considered a leave-in conditioner or a cream because it doesn't qualify as a butter either.
I won a Citrus Tonic oil and wax combo from No BS Beard Reviews, and that stuff is straight 🔥, little bit of that wax goes a loong way. As for the categorization, I think it’s absolutely essential so the customer knows what kind of product they’re actually getting(ie expecting a medium-ish hold from a balm) and either getting something as light as a butter or on the firmer waxy side.
I make my own moustache wax with bee's wax, coconut oil and lanolin. I've tried it several times on my beard and I really like the hold. I'm just wondering if co-wash will clean it out and not worry about having to actually wash my beard more often than weekly. Therefore I mostly only go with oil.
Thanks for the info and it's application. I just used wax for the first time and used you method even though I have a short beard at the moment. Thanks again
I think you said in more recent videos that you don't use wax much anymore, but I'm considering trying it out. My problem areas are also on my sides and I want something to keep them down until I get more length to let gravity do more of the work. Balm doesn't seem to do much for me right now, but I've only used badass beard balm so far.
Dan just got the honest Amish beard wax! What do you think of it? Thanks for the video , want to try this wax beard is long and out of control hoping this works for me! Like you said to keep it professional!
I love this idea because of exactly what you said need to have it for those professional days or going out great video and like the way you use it very awesome
I tend to agree with you, Dan. I feel that in the early stages of the beard product game it was kind of the wild West. Companies probably tried to keep it simple and use fewer terms but now that consumers are becoming more knowledgeable and savvy, the need has arisen for more clearly defined products.
I think that’s a great way to break down the products. I have the Woodland Harmony and the new wax that Angry Kracken came out with. Both work well. I also think that all the companies should offer an unscented wax. Especially since it’s just used for styling purposes, that way there is one that could be an everyday use and work well with any scented oil that was used.
Growing my first beard ( I'm 40 by the way) as of right now its about 3 inches long. I shampoo and condition it regularly. Now it's starting to get out of control and not look good. I bought, beard oil, balm and honest amish wax. Gonna take your advice and see how it turns out. Thanks for the videos they give me a clear direction to go in. And I subscribed also
Yes, I like the category system that you discussed. I think that would really clean up any confusion if you are ordering, but have never tried the product. Would you consider Luxurious Bastard a balm or wax?
I'm right in line with you on this. Wax yo me would be very strong hold, ball should be the one general idea that it had a medium hold, and butter is more for conditioning then styling.
Not to answer for the teach, but for sure always oil. Wax is mostly wax and smaller amount of oils. So you need more to help keep your beard hydrated. Lets see if I'm right and see what Mr.Command says.
I agree with the categorizing of them, I have a tendency to buy the Balms with a heavies hold, due to how active my job is, I dont like my side/under beard puffing out from rubbing on my shirt and such as I move around. I havent tried any Waxes yet, but I think if I do, I would go with Unscented so I dont have to buy extra product and have an even greater issue with storage space. One really good Wax would be great.
hello Dan, can you tell me the percentage by weight of beeswax and shea butter for a high fixation beard wax? I think 50/50 for a good hold, but I'm not sure.
GBS has there OIls Butters Balms and Waxes on Point!...Nice Chat the other day with Scubba Matt and Scott...I really enjoyed it! (I actually won Scubba's question on Motor OIl and never contacted him...lol)
Is there an unscented beard was you recommend Dan? I currently use the honest Amish beard wax which works great but can overpower the scent of the balm I put on first.
When you said "the only company that I know that is using that ..." I was expecting to hear "Honest Amish". I don't know if Seven Potions or an implication you didn't know of Honest Amish surprised me more. Now to listen to the rest of the video.
Artius Man also sells a wax--I own it. I've messed with it some, but I always feel I'm stumbling in the dark a bit--is my beard long enough? Am I using too little/too much? I appreciate this video, man! Bravo.
how long should mustache wax hold on a mustache. and how often should i reapply it?..if these were answered in another Vid great i just have not seen it yet..
Hello Dan, hope your doing well. I’ve got a very short beard that I’ve started to grow. I’m currently using oils, balms, wash and going to start using butter after watching your videos. I’m looking for a strong wax I can use to hold down the fly aways, would this be the answer? I’m thinking of going for either ‘Bearded Goon Ridiculously Strong Beard & Moustache Wax’ or ‘Honest Amish Extra Grit Beard Wax’, which one would be better? Or should I just trim the fly aways for the time being while the beard continues to grow? Sorry for the bombard or questions lol.
Try a firm hold beard balm. Either of these would be great: Luxurious Bastard= tinyurl.com/3cnc5mnh * COMMANDBASTARD = 10% off Johnnie Ray= tinyurl.com/yhyx782m * DANC10 = 10% off I would not trim. Ride out the styling and make sure to look into heat, if you haven’t. Biggest game changer for styling. Blowdryer and comb, and/or heated brush
@@DanCBearded really that's interesting I was looking into getting a beard wax I thought Billy had natural ingredients they listed this on thier site also what do you recommend then for a natural curly beard Water, Beeswax, Cetearyl Alcohol, Lanolin Wax, Tribehenin, Ceteareth-25, Glycerin, Copernicia Prunifera (Carnauba) Wax, Lanolin, Octyl Palmitate, Polysorbate 80, Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid
@@DanCBearded interesting they looked natural to me no silicon or rubber and great reviews on amazon and my friends recommend it to me and says feels great natural great natural feel and comments say the same but I'll take what you said into consideration you can never be too careful when looking into what to use

Yes more companies should have balms, butters, and wax.
Agreed Shawn! I wish we could get a scale system down!
Thanks for this great video Dan and I greatly appreciate it for including our product in it. You hit every nail on the head.

I like honest amish beard wax and like this, it keeps the style in place. For my money, the Luxurious Bastard balm is toward the wax side also.
I agree, lux would be a wax on my scale

Honest Amish also sells beard wax.
Yeah but it smells like black liquorice:( no my taste personally. Works great though.
I need to try that brotha!
Honest amish is a bad ass company...smells like cloves & hints of pine & leather...i love it..
Can’t stand the smell of it in my face all day. Bought and regretted it. Consistency is more oily than waxy too.
You covered the basics on what the beard wax is. And what days to use it. Job well done, Dan C! 👌🏻

No negatives with more, but just more hold. I do not like too much stiffness
@@DanCBearded Right on, thanks for the reply. See you Monday for the stream. 👍

Thanks.
Hey brotha, have you watched my mustache video with Jake Rancourt?
Bro you're a must for us bearded guys
I appreciate that!
You definitely cleared the air on beard wax wasn't quite sure how to use it but I know how now through your knowledge thanks Dan one cool dude 😎
Awesome to hear that it helped, thanks brotha!
100% agree with ur system! That would help prevent a lot of confusion
We just need a couple companies to get on board and set the standard
Dan C Teaching and Preaching!!!! I agree with you on how they should be broken down. As a business beard, I want a strong hold and hate having to sort through balms. Quick question how does the seven potions beard wax compare vs JC Grooming’s balm which is a very strong hold? Cheers buddy.
Extremely similar, but I would say seven potions is easier to work with
Most definitely! As you said, some balms should be butters and some wax. It was tough sometimes to find a good beard wax when you're a newbie because these companies would use the word balm and make it an umbrella term when some were in fact more butter like or wax like. Great video DanC!
Thanks Santiago!
I thought the same thing with honest amish heavy duty, that stuff is a butter lol
great demonstration Dan! early on when i started using these products i got confused wich was what between the balm and butter, then sometime after i began realizing to tell the difference was in the shape of the container, like those balms (strictly for styling) tin containers that are more "flat" shaped such as that seven potions, and balm for conditioning were in an actual jar container. Hi Jax!
Thanks Jake!
I agree Steve!
We love beard wax! Your channel is awesome Dan. Keep'm coming.
I agree with you. Sometimes I get tired of trying to figure out the hold of a product. Be nice if they all said wax balm, or butter to let u know the hold. Just like making different thickness of oils would be nice to. Great video stay positive brother.
% scales would make it easy!
Great comment, thanks brotha!
It really helps to prevent trims!
Totally agree with your categorizing idea. And maybe until the industry gets onboard with this, have a website with a table listing the companies, the products they have, and the actual category it should be in. Make the links affiliate and you can generate some passive income that way.
That is not a bad idea at all!
I totally agree Dan, when I first started growing a beard I bought my first 'balm' from bulldog. Now after know more, it resembles a butter more than a balm. And now, I don't even use it, it is actually still almost full.
A scale would help so much!
Being in the UK Seven Potions is the first beard brand I've used and i love their oil and balm. Not tried their wax but thanks to your video it will be on my next amazon order.
I am obsessive over this company right now lol seriously loving it!
Beard wax I’m intrigued now.
Great vid Dan
I recently got some mountaineer brand "heavy duty" beard balm and it is almost certainly a wax. Their other balm is "magic" and I just wasn't sure what that meant 😂
Very happy with my purchase. I'm a guy that likes a strong hold.
Lol I ran into this issue to. But great issue hahaha then I mistakenly got heavy duty honest amish and it was a soft conditioner lol lo e both products.
I have heard that brotha!
Your beard looks good the way you are shaping it. It’s on point. 👍🏻👍🏻
I agree. Butter = no wax. Balm = some wax. I really enjoys Mr. Luxurious balm to me it’s heavier with wax and has good hold and the scents a bonus.
Agreed, lux is an amazing wax
Yeah that would definitely help the consumers.
Agreed!
I agree with your category system. At the moment, I identify a product as a butter if it has no wax or if wax is the last ingredient before scents. Balms have wax higher in the ingredients list, and waxes are usually named as such. Your assessment would be very helpful and would eliminate some guesswork on my part.
Agreed Leo! Well said
The Bearded Goon beard wax 🙌. I’ve only subscribed to the channel for a few months so I don’t know if you’ve reviewed it yet, but of the wax’s I’ve tried so far (seven potions included) it is the longest lasting and strongest hold by a landslide.
Wow, sounds wonderful! I have not tried them yet. I would love for the company to reach out to me
Perfect idea. I only have seven potions brush n i absolutely love it. Will be ordering more seven potions products soon.
I am falling in love with the company! Literally have it in beard right now
Great video. I agree with the need to get on the same page. I just got some Fresh Beards balm, and while I like the scent (Black Light) it’s a bit too firm and stiff to be what I would call a true balm. Takes a looong time to emulsify in my hands.
Agreed Jeff!
I agree with the category method. It keeps the products separate.
Something with consistency would be amazing!
I totally agree Dan great points
Thanks!
Absolutely agree on the "balm" there!
I am lovinggg citrus tonic!
I use Honest Amish for everything except they don't have a butter that I could find, so I use Detroit Butter.
Awesome! Their heavy duty balm is pretty much a butter
This has saved my life. On week 12 now and it's getting out of control 👍
Awesome!
This video was definitely helpful! I have always wondered the difference. Thank you!
Awesome! Glad I could help
I make my own moustache wax with bee's wax, coconut oil and lanolin. I've tried it several times on my beard and I really like the hold.
I'm just wondering if co-wash will clean it out and not worry about having to actually wash my beard more often than weekly. Therefore I mostly only go with oil.
for me, I have to wash to get the wax out of my beard
Great video brother never used beard wax may have to try some in the future yes I think companies should have a balm, wax ,butters great job brother
Thanks Jason!
Give it a shot!
Totally agree on the distinction. I have tried the Kingsmen Holy Grail wax and it is amazing
I have not tried that one yet
Dan just got the honest Amish beard wax! What do you think of it? Thanks for the video , want to try this wax beard is long and out of control hoping this works for me! Like you said to keep it professional!
Really good stuff!
Could you use a mustache wax on your beard as a substitute to beard wax??
I find mustache wax to be stronger than beard wax
I love this idea because of exactly what you said need to have it for those professional days or going out great video and like the way you use it very awesome
For sure! Very situational
I tend to agree with you, Dan. I feel that in the early stages of the beard product game it was kind of the wild West. Companies probably tried to keep it simple and use fewer terms but now that consumers are becoming more knowledgeable and savvy, the need has arisen for more clearly defined products.
Well said!
Unscented wax would be perfect!
Easy peasy !!! Thanks Dan
Artius Man has a Beard and Mustache Wax also. Like the categories.
I have not tried theirs
Your beard looks great in this vidjuh! Good job!
Thank you!
And I subscribed also
Top 5
Hopefully 1st
The GOLD!
Yes, I like the category system that you discussed. I think that would really clean up any confusion if you are ordering, but have never tried the product. Would you consider Luxurious Bastard a balm or wax?
It would be a wax to me. An amazing one, but certainly wax
I'm right in line with you on this. Wax yo me would be very strong hold, ball should be the one general idea that it had a medium hold, and butter is more for conditioning then styling.
No doubt!
Do you still add beard oil first then the wax?
Not to answer for the teach, but for sure always oil. Wax is mostly wax and smaller amount of oils. So you need more to help keep your beard hydrated. Lets see if I'm right and see what Mr.Command says.
Absolutely, always oil first brotha
Butter, balm and wax... that works for me. I think all companies should do things in this manner.
Agreed! Very simple
Heck yeah, I agree!
Oh yeah. I like wax sometimes. I have worn it like on the beach for the salt and the wind. I think it's a good idea to offer it. Nice vid Dan
Great situarional uses for sure!
hello Dan, can you tell me the percentage by weight of beeswax and shea butter for a high fixation beard wax? I think 50/50 for a good hold, but I'm not sure.
Totally personal preference. 50/50 is totally fine
Is there a real difference between mustache wax and beard wax? If I were to buy one which one should I use? Or do you suggest using both???
Mustache wax normally has a higher percentage of wax
GBS has there OIls Butters Balms and Waxes on Point!...Nice Chat the other day with Scubba Matt and Scott...I really enjoyed it! (I actually won Scubba's question on Motor OIl and never contacted him...lol)
I need to try more of GBS!
Is there an unscented beard was you recommend Dan? I currently use the honest Amish beard wax which works great but can overpower the scent of the balm I put on first.
Fable has an unscented wax.
Thanks for the response. I saw they had mustache wax....same thing I’m guessing?
@@twt_figgy I would imagine it's the same. Fable will be on Dan's Monday live stream and hopefully will highlight the product. 👍
hmmm I will keep that in mind, because I cannot think of any right now
Will the beard wax interfere with the scented butter? Is the wax scented as well? Thank you so much for sharing Dan!
The wax I use is matching the oil I have, but an unscented shouldn't mess with anything
@@DanCBearded do they sell kits with this company that comes with oils waxes butters conditioners all that for your beard
When you said "the only company that I know that is using that ..." I was expecting to hear "Honest Amish". I don't know if Seven Potions or an implication you didn't know of Honest Amish surprised me more. Now to listen to the rest of the video.
I am learning the honest amish wax is pretty popular, but I really had no idea
I completely agree with you about the range. There should be three distinct categories. Have you tried Detroit Grooming beard wax?
I have not yet, but I really want to!
Dear Dan, did you already do a video about "beard clay"? What is that stuff?
I have not and I'm not fully sure
@@DanCBearded so we're aligned! Haha
Artius Man also sells a wax--I own it. I've messed with it some, but I always feel I'm stumbling in the dark a bit--is my beard long enough? Am I using too little/too much? I appreciate this video, man! Bravo.
I use just a little bit to act as a shield and love it
So I work night shift. Can I use beard butter when I go to bed? Or do I have to use beard butter at night when I'm at work?
Either way is totally fine!
how long should mustache wax hold on a mustache. and how often should i reapply it?..if these were answered in another Vid great i just have not seen it yet..
This video should be perfect! czcams.com/video/71lqAb_K3Ts/video.html
Either of these would be great:
Luxurious Bastard= tinyurl.com/3cnc5mnh
* COMMANDBASTARD = 10% off
Johnnie Ray= tinyurl.com/yhyx782m
* DANC10 = 10% off
I would not trim. Ride out the styling and make sure to look into heat, if you haven’t. Biggest game changer for styling. Blowdryer and comb, and/or heated brush
Perfect, thank you for the advice Dan! I’ll look into those products!
Great company and products
Seriously true! I am hooked on them
What about Billy jealousy is it the best one right now better then seven potions etc
Billy jealously might be the worst product on the market. Full of silicone and even rubber. Smells good but terrible feel in beard
@@DanCBearded really that's interesting I was looking into getting a beard wax I thought Billy had natural ingredients they listed this on thier site also what do you recommend then for a natural curly beard
Water, Beeswax, Cetearyl Alcohol, Lanolin Wax, Tribehenin, Ceteareth-25, Glycerin, Copernicia Prunifera (Carnauba) Wax, Lanolin, Octyl Palmitate, Polysorbate 80, Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid
@@js-hk6xs those are farrrrrrrr from natural lol I would recommend the wax from this video 👊
@@DanCBearded interesting they looked natural to me no silicon or rubber and great reviews on amazon and my friends recommend it to me and says feels great natural great natural feel and comments say the same but I'll take what you said into consideration you can never be too careful when looking into what to use
Detroit grooming has a wax now...I’m excited
I really need to try that!
Very informative. Thanks
My beard is in that awkward stage. I think a wax would help tame the beast. Are you going to compare a few different waxes in the future?
Absolutely!
What are your thoughts using the beard wax, followed by using a heat beard brush?
Wax after the heated brush
