Funny that this is supposed to be a sustainability themed deck, but using generative AI is incredibly bad for the environment given how much power it sucks up.
I opened the box and saw the backs and my heart dropped (if that not entirely too dramatic a response to a tarot deck lol). I spent such a long time looking for those symbols on the cards trying to decipher them, then realised they're just in the book!I've been really disappointed by her responses too, it comes across a bit like anyone who has criticisms 'just doesn't understand the vision'.
The concept is still seriously cool, and I am going to give the guidebook a thorough read and see what I can do with it, but I'm feeling soured on it going in so it's not looking good. I think it's one of those cases where the concept was really cool, but maybe needed an artist and/or someone more familiar with the tarot to execute it properly. It's all very well wanting to make a personal project but once you put it on Kickstarter, it's a product and backers opinions matter.
Thankfully this is only the first kickstarter I've been really disappointed with, but I've been making an effort to be much more discerning about my choices this year!

Oh no! I'm really thankful that I canceled my pledge after realizing that the major Arcana were unlabeled... But I never imagined there would be so many other issues with this deck! It's so unfortunate because it truly seems like a really cool idea. I also didn't realize it was AI generated images, which is equally disappointing to me. I'm glad Kickstarter is requiring artists to notify backers if the deck uses AI though. I feel really bad for everyone who invested their money into this project and ended up feeling disappointed and mislead.
You made the right choice
So first off, this creator needs to be ashamed of themself for tricking so many people into buying this deck, because that is truly awful. This is also why I have become incredibly selective about what I do back on Kickstarter because some of these people really have no shame. And misspelling the Page OMG.
Yeah others have said they’ve had worse experiences this was just my first in getting something that wasn’t what it was advertised as being
I'm glad I cancelled pledge on this one. What a disappointment. I could totally live with a misspelling and even a plain back (*if* the plain back was clearly shown on the campaign, obviously) but not with all those cards looking so similar. I'm sad to say it seems like we'll still have to be sleuths with the AI stuff -- Kickstarter's requirement to disclose use of AI came into effect August 29, 2023 and this deck launched in November 2023, so not including that section was actually a violation of Kickstarter policy.

Yo this sucks!! Not sure how anyone could defend this especially with how misleading the campaign was. I’m so sorry to anyone who bought this deck and I had nothing to do with its conception !!!

So happy now that I didn't back this now! I was heartbroken I missed out on this but now seeing this makes me so happy I didn't. Especially with it being AI I would have been pissed!

@@chaneldays I backed The Victorian Faery Tarot and everyone is mad it's taking so long to be done but she's been open and honest with us that she's aiming for the best seeing g kickstarters like this make .e so happy she's making sure it's just what we backed ❤️ I've backed 2 decks that got rushed out and both had problems so now it's 80 dollars waisted because I won't use them...
I looooove the idea behind this deck! The misspelling of Page makes it obvious that the creator has no real familiarity with the tarot. I wasn't expecting pips (which may be my fault), and if the pips were pulled off the backgrounds and put on a solid color I think I could really dig it. (haha soil pun) Unfortunately the cards look to be something between pips and illustrated...sitting right in the middle doesn't work and is why I feel disappointed.
The idea was fantastic but the campaign wasn’t transparent enough so we were all a bit shocked with what we got - but you seem to be less sad than me which is good!(love a pun ☺️)
Still waiting for my deck, so thank you for the flip through. As someone active in sustainability as well as a tarot enthusiast, I loved the idea behind this deck (and still do!), but from what I can see I agree with you that the execution is not great, to say the least.
I suspect that this deck originally may have been intended more for designers or people in sustainability rather than tarot readers, but that it was mostly tarot readers who backed the deck. I don't believe the creator purposefully misled us in their campaign, but rather that 1) they didn't have a clear idea of what running a Kickstarter means, and 2) they liked the idea of combining tarot with soil, but lacked the tarot knowledge and experience to know what's important to tarot readers.
Not making excuses for them, as a tarot enthusiast this deck is not what I expected either. Seems like they bit off more than they could chew with this project (and to me the tone of her latest communications are in line with that), and more research by them upfront could have prevented some of the issues you mentioned in your video. All in all it's sad that a great idea like this did not come to its full fruition and that so many of the backers are disappointed with the end product. Not a good experience for anyone (backers or creator), I would think.
I think choosing not to show all cards considering how similar they are is a lil misleading - and then the complete change of the backs was jarring

@@chaneldays Absolutely, like you I'll also make sure I can see all cards before backing in the future. And seeing the change of the backs was a shock to the system, completely unexpected and not communicated at all.
"paige" is the gender neutral version of "page"- not. typo . I understand your frustration, but for me this is by far NOT the worst experience I have had on Kickstart, not by a long shot. But I appreciate "unusual" decks like this very much. I just wanted to present a different opinion on the deck because I LOVE this deck.

@@chaneldays It's hard for those of us who absolutely do not resonate with "Starseed" ethereal imagery or a rougher hand-drawn primitive style in Tarot these days. This deck is perfect for me because it's just absolutely neutral- I read based on psychology and with seasonal energies, and in tandem with other decks, so this deck works as a sort of blank Tarot canvas. If you read intuitively, then it's hard no. To me I saw it more as a student art project than a "professionally made" Tarot deck- it seemed clear from the creator's pitch that she had little experience in Tarot and it was a funded project from a national grant based on an idea she had. So I was pleased she didn't try to make her inexperienced approach to Tarot fit the cards, like some of the Kickstarter creators do where they are new to tarot and decide they are, for some reason, uniquely qualified to create a deck after reading for only a few months or something. I'm dismayed that the Paige spelling wasn't intentional (yikes- gave her benefit of the doubt on that one!) but compared to some crummy Kickstarters this one wasn't too bad, and I've backed something like 150 decks there over the years. Not the best, certainly, but I appreciated the opportunity to add a sort of mid-century-modern style neutral nature deck to my collection. I realize I am one of the very few who is pleased with this.

@@RoseHoneyRitual several sources disagree, but the creator said it's a misspelling, so that's what it is. I know several trans friends who changed the spelling of their name from page to paige because it's considered the gender/sex neutral form of the name/word.
@@gingerblue okay cool that’s anecdotal not fact. And seemingly just your personal experience with some friends changing their names?? & this isn’t a name is a title…. ??? So In my personal experience (intuition vibes common sense) and from what I could find online it makes No Sense (the vibes, common sense) because it was always a gender neutral term and still is (online and peer reviewed). I don’t want people to read your comment and misinterpret that as a fact and then use a misspelled word on their deck too. 😵💫😵💫😵💫

I had to look at the kickstarter campaign again to see if I was losing my mind. The backs, the courts, the misspellings, were too disappointing. I might use the majors as its own thing but I may also have to label them. And they changed the mineral suit from the kickstarter. It was definitely a let down opening it up.
I also didn’t think was AI. It was supposed to be some sort of photography but it definitely doesn’t seem like that and that part seems to have been removed from the kickstarter overview. In the comments, she says she disclosed that it’s AI but I can’t find that on the campaign page.
@@NicoleACottageWitch There was no disclosure on the campaign page!! There should've been. When I backed it and asked in a comment about the artwork, what I got was the reply "it's a lot of digital mix-media. Some of it using rendering, procreate to draw some of the stuff on to the images, other images blended in, the symbols are made using my own hand drawn elements drawings and then vectorised." Someone else then asked more bluntly than I did if AI was used (I asked 'how the art was made' in a general way) and *they* got the response I got plus the sentence "The final artworks are far from AI generated but at points on some elements, I have used some assistance in thinking about how something might look for example, a microbe." ...this felt extraordinarily dishonest to me at the time, and I cancelled my pledge because of it. What a disappointment.

Kickstarter only cares that they receive their commission- they absolutely could not give a crap about users. They stop being involved the minute their commission comes through. So many projects that are never delivered and the creator walks away with hundreds of thousands of people's dollars and then they let that same creator launch ANOTHER project.

@@chaneldays it happens CONSTANTLY- I have to check every creator and look at their past campaigns to make sure they delivered- you'd be shocked at how many people do that. They don't even bother creating a new account! And Kickstarter does zero- at the very least, they could allow us to leave feedback on a creator so if they start a new campaign, people can see what they might be funding- delays, products delivered not as described, etc.

The campaign did not look like AI but in person it was VERY apparent - I wouldn’t have backed it had I known what I was actually getting 😔
wow. I ended up backing this one and then changed my mind. I'm so glad I changed my mind on this one! How disappointing this is! I am so sorry because that wasn't a cheep deck and wtf with the backs also :( I recently got a Kickstarter in and it is the most disappointing deck ever! I have done an unboxing of it also, it just hasn't aired yet. I am definitely being more mindful going forward. I waited for this one like 16 months and I'm still waiting on another one that is older than that, which is just ridiculous. 💖
