My husbands died when our daughter was three, so it's only her and I. She is a senior in high school now. For Christmas we do things a bit differently. It's started as a desperate measure and has turned into our Christmas celebration. We are very poor, living on social security, so no we don't have the ability to buy thirty gifts for each other regardless of how much we wish we could. And as our landlord raised the price of rent higher and higher things became really bad right before Christmas. I told my daughter I really couldn't afford to buy her much. If it's a choice between gifts or food and a roof over our heads, you can imagine which one wins. Anyhow, since I really want something for Jaden to open for Christmas, even if it wasn't some big gift or even what she wanted, I went to Walmart searching for the dumbest cheapest and funniest gifts I could find for around $100. I found them 😁. Ridiculous gifts, like Star Wars hand sanitizers, Reindeer poop (which happened to be little fire crackers), "Chutes and Ladders" (because it was $10 and was funny to give to a teenager), festive socks, an exfoliating sponge of Sponge-Bob, a giant Hersey kiss etc...just silly inexpensive stuff. Spent the next morning opening up these weird presents and laughed for hours. Even played "Chutes and Ladders" for a good hour. It was hilarious. Now every year we basically do the same thing. Although I do try to buy at least one thing Jaden really wants. But the morning of Christmas is spent cracking up at each other to see who bought the dumbest gifts. It may not be big and extravagant...but it's our tradition and I'm thankful for it.
The fact that Flynn asks for you to protect them melts my heart. He expresses wesley needs comfort by saying "protect" and has no issues "sharing" you with them. He knows mom's protection makes him feel better so mom's protection will make babies feel better too ❤❤

I tried to infuse some Ballinger magic into our Christmas this year. We celebrated with my parents/brothers on the 18th and i triiiieeed to get them all to slow down and just bask in it, and no dice. My mom said “yes I want to savor it” and then have us unwrap everything at the same time 🤦🏻♀️ So on Christmas with my kids I asked my husband that we sit in a circle and everyone take turns one at a time. And everyone was so much more grateful, so much more patient. I loved it. Will continue to try and take Christmas morning as slowly as possible from here on out.

We've always done it one at a time. Our kids love being able to watch our faces when we open a gift from them and vice versa. I feel like if we all open at the same time, we will miss a reaction of something we thought long and hard about giving. We take breaks...but it's a very special time taking those moments to appreciate each other and the thoughtfulness of giving.
I loved seeing how protective Flynn is over his siblings, it almost made me cry happy tears to see how tender and sweet his little heart is! I spent Christmas with my dad, it was great, just the two of us and it was so special.

My family has always done presents one at a time! We start with stockings (everyone opens them together) and then someone hands each of us a present and we open them one by one. It lasts hours but we like it that way :) Glad to see my family isn’t the only one that opens presents one by one lol

I tried to infuse some Ballinger magic into our Christmas this year. We celebrated with my parents/brothers on the 18th and i triiiieeed to get them all to slow down and just bask in it, and no dice. My mom said “yes I want to savor it” and then have us unwrap everything at the same time 🤦🏻♀️ So on Christmas with my kids I asked my husband that we sit in a circle and everyone take turns one at a time. And everyone was so much more grateful, so much more patient. I loved it. Will continue to try and take Christmas morning as slowly as possible from here on out.

We've always done it one at a time. Our kids love being able to watch our faces when we open a gift from them and vice versa. I feel like if we all open at the same time, we will miss a reaction of something we thought long and hard about giving. We take breaks...but it's a very special time taking those moments to appreciate each other and the thoughtfulness of giving.

I loved seeing how protective Flynn is over his siblings, it almost made me cry happy tears to see how tender and sweet his little heart is!
I spent Christmas with my dad, it was great, just the two of us and it was so special.

My family has always done presents one at a time! We start with stockings (everyone opens them together) and then someone hands each of us a present and we open them one by one. It lasts hours but we like it that way :) Glad to see my family isn’t the only one that opens presents one by one lol
flynn is the best brother and cousin ever and i almost cried when he said “can you protect them?” and you said “mommy and daddy will protect all of you always. i promise” 🥺 and when he asked luke if he needed help and luke said yes flynn got to excited and jumped to help him! you can tell he genuinely loves helping people and making them happy. he’s literally so sweet and i can’t wait to continue to watch him grow into even more of a sweetheart! i love you guys! merry christmas!

Literally I almost cried it was so cute when Flynn said "Will you protect them?" Then Colleen said yes me and dad will always protect all of yall. Like don't mind me I will be crying now ❤
It just keeps getting better and better as your kids get older. My daughter gets hyped for Christmas with me November 1st. She just turned 6 and she loves every single aspect of it and we scream Christmas songs and do crafts and decorate and it's just the best.
