My dad was 101st airborne on D-Day behind German lines on Utah beach....later because he spoke five languages fluently including German, he got put in the plywood black glider recon airplanes and flew over the Germans noting position...after radio code the sky would light up with Allied artillery.

You must be very proud. Incredible to think that paratroopers were almost disbanded before Overlord. And scary to imagine how things would have developed without the vital role they played.

My wife's grandfather landed behind enemy lines in a glider that cashed and killed a couple of his team and broke the leg of his friend. They where captured soon after and place in a transport truck and shortly after attacked by American troops. They freed and able to rejoin the lines.
