    GREAT VIDEO! It would be educational to see a demonstration of using the trail jack to elevate front and/or rear so as to be able to change a tire or tube. Really enjoy your channel as a new DR650 owner!

    I think you have a perfectly adequate tool kit on your bike. I really like that trail jack. I'm going to have to get one of those. I particularly like your modified ratchet driver; that's a handy little tool.
    In addition of what you carry, I carry an adjustable wrench (crescent wrench), a small "cheater bar" for leverage, 2 additional spark plugs and extra wiring (black & red). I also noticed those Steg Pegs on your bike. I have plans of adding those to my DR very shortly. I'll probably make them, to be honest (aluminum stock and door stoppers). They sell for $170-$180 in the states, and for what they are, that's CRAZY! Good video.

      Thanks! The trail jack is real handy. You can buy ratchets like that I just couldn't find one so I made it. Those additions would be handy I will look into them!
      Unsure on what brand my pegs are they were on the bike when I bought it. They are also lowered though which makes a big difference over standard

      @@kentuckyjustice1408 I get you now! Haha sorry it is early. Yes I made them just a bit of 3mm flat plate and an old skate board wheel. They do the job nicely. They are very expensive over here to!

    Thanks for sharing your tool kit.
    I always think a chain breaking tool and a couple of master links are a good idea to carry.
    I also keep a small test light for the electrical system.
    I've had a chain snap at 1am on a back road and glad I had the master link.
    Also a small head lamp comes in very handy.

    Steel Putty mate very useful, crack or holes in tank, cases, etc…

      No, it’s in a tube, cut a bit, knead it together, fill the hole and it goes rock hard in minutes.

    Those rubber gloves in your front bag might come in handy with this virus going around. Just a little tip. Also carry some larger zip ties. I have about 5 in my plastic rear tube. Saved me a few times. Hope you are able to ride somewhere over the next few weeks...

      Cheers Len. Yes good tip with the zip ties will add them. Nah I'm just going to be following the guide lines and staying inside. If we all stick to this we can get through this quicker. Stay safe.

      Totally agree about the zip ties. I stuff them in the tool tube after my other kit is in there to take up space and minimize things rattling around and getting worn down. Also, I wrap duct tape around a credit card to make a nice little bundle that can be stored anywhere.

    Like you, I carry only bike specific size tools. I don't carry sizes I don't need - yet some videos suggest carrying other sizes in case you stumble across someone else in trouble who's bike has different size fasteners....... Hmm.
    I took a couple of hours out with the bike and a set of callipers and measured every size of fastener on the bike and wrote them down. Then I annotated each fastener with what tool was needed to fit the fastener - does it need a socket, because you can't get a spanner on the head? Conversely, does it have to have a spanner, not a socket? Then does the spanner have to be open ended, or a ring spanner? For example, my rear sprocket needs an open ended 13mm spanner on the nuts - not a ring spanner nor a socket. And while doing this I saw that many hex headed bolts could be replaced with Allen cap head bolts, making my tool kit smaller. It also showed me that the oft-carried crescent wrench/adjustable spanner beloved of many CZcamsrs is a waste of time. It's too big to actually fit anything other than the axle nuts, for which I have the proper spanners already. So it gets left behind with massive weight saving. Find that 15mm fastener, or leave it at home :)

      @@chuddledollops If your careful. It's the only stand that I have and I have had swingarm off and front end off but only one end at a time.

    Nice kit, and as you say, it should do anything that is reasonable when you're out and about.
    FWIW I changed the hex head seat bolts to phillps head, now only one tool to remove the seat.

      Thanks. I have been considering changing the seat bolts and side cover ones to knurled fasteners so I can remove without tools using my hand but haven't got around to it yet

      @@MOTODANS This is one of the very first mods I did to my DR. As often as I've had the side panels and seat off, it has come in very handy being able to remove everything without tools. I'm even considering getting some knurled fasteners for the fuel tank as well if they'll fit under the seat.

    Show I just changed out the oil for the first time on my new DR at 400 miles and I noticed some metal shavings in the old oil. It that normal for the first oil change?

      If it's it first ever oil change I wouldn't worry about it. As long as there wasn't any major chunks. Fine shavings are normal in small quantity

    Do you have a torque wrench (whether at home or on the bike) ? I am slowly putting together my essential tools. And first job I am planning to do is NSU fix, so just wondering if a torque wrench is worth spending on at this point or I can delay the purchase for later.

      Yes I have several torque wrenches at home. I certainly wouldn't carry one on the bike. How much experience do you have wrenching? Quite alot of the bolts for the nsu job are small and if you are new to doing jobs like this a torque wrench would be a must in my opinion. The cost of a torque wrench vs the cost and hassle of repairing a stripped thread would cancel each other out.
      I personally don't torque many bolts to be honest, anything internal of an engine I torque. But I have alot of experience and would get pretty close to the correct torque just by feel.

      @@MOTODANS I used to have a 350 single and did most of the work on that. But haven’t worked much with engine or clutch casing. I used to go by the feel while tightening bolts and that has worked out fine for me. So it’s more to learn to go by the book for the DR until I get a sense of the right torque for different parts of the bike. So if I have to get only one torque wrench, what range would you recommend to cover most of the jobs on the DR? ps: am not looking forward to assembling the piston or crankshaft anytime soon. Lol

      It sounds like you may be ok without one, it is hard to say really. One to do them all is hard, alot of your smaller bolts are 8-10 NM but not many torque wrenches that will do that as well as higher than say 30nm. A 3/8 torque wrench would probably be one to go for if you could only have 1 but you won't get the small torque numbers out of it.

    My new stock DR650 stalls sometimes at stop signs and red lights. What could cause this?

      Brand new? Take it back to the dealer. Could be a few things, idle speed to low?

      No I bought it from an owner Not a dealer. only had 290 miles on it.

      How old is it? If it's still in warranty take it back to dealer. If it's been sitting around a few years with those low km's could have partial blocked jets in the carb

      @@MOTODANS it's a 2018 , The last owners Dad died , and the lady that sold me the bike inherited the bike, so she had to sell it. I only paid 5 grand for it.

      I am going to try some high octane gas and some Sea foam additive in the gas tank to see if that works.

    Did you say a 15mm socket and 15mm spanner? They will be of little use on a DR, there is not a single 15mm head on the bike. Otherwise that is a good kit.

      Hey Mark, i do carry a 15mm socket but not a spanner. I am not sure what on my bike i need the 15mm for but there must be something. I will have a look i and let you know.

      @@MOTODANS and some spare common nuts and bolts. It seems the DR either likes its fasteners with locktite or anti-sieze and nothing in between. Great work on the ratchet. Ingenious!
