      @@reddd-77 the point of my original comment was that the person who was the most confident about her intelligence didn’t believe that they would be taking an IQ test, after being told that they would be rankling eachother by their IQ’s. Additionally, while somewhat correct, online IQ tests still have the capability of testing cognitive ability. Considering that she came in dead last by a very large score, one can easily deduce that her IQ was likely on the lower end of the spectrum within that group of individuals. Additionally, as a sheer judgement call, it was very obvious that those with the highest EQ tested to have the highest IQs, while those who had the worst EQs ranked dead last in the IQ test.
      I was kind of a dick in my response to him, but it’s the internet.

    They went off about how emotionally intelligent they were, yet they displayed a complete lack of empathy and kindness towards Tyler and just came off as complete assholes. Imo, he was the only one who truly seemed emotionally intelligentー he read the room immediately and was able to remain calm and respectful despite how harsh they were being.
    It's pretty hilarious how that one girl immediately started to throw out a ton of excuses as to why she ranked lower than the person she deemed to be beneath her. I bet she wouldn't have questioned the validity of the IQ test if she'd ranked higher

Deduction feeds heavily into reasoning but not so much into Induction and vice versa. Induction is overall the best metric for a "base" intelligence and then branching into the other two will give you a more rounded number.

    the thing about military dude is that when he ranked himself as number 1, his answer was very deliberate and it betrayed his real intelligence. He didn't put himself 1 because he thinks he's the smartest. "I know what I'm about and I'm sure of that." The ONLY thing he's sure of is himself, ranking everyone else is a complete guess. Why give anyone else the benefit of the doubt but not yourself?

      Tyler is extremely smart. He has one of the hardest jobs in the Marine Corp being a CBRN specialist and you really need a high ASVAB to get that job. And his score of a 94 on the ASVAB when the average is around 40 in the Marine Corp.

    its satisfying AF to see Maria got blasted in the IQ test, with big gap compared to Sean. This is true in many cases, not all PHD grads are big brain smart people. They may excel in their respective fields, but they can absolutely suck in many others. They know things but sometimes they can be inefficient in how they do things. For example, in a camping trip, they know the principles of finding clean water and starting a fire but fails when practical skills are involved. It took them over an hour just to start a fire.

      @@Spubsowo It still comes back to the same issue though, that correlating passing an educational institution with intelligence. How often has it not been shown that education systems don't favor intelligence, but rather conformity and memory/repitition based skillsets.
      I know a guy who was all over the place through elementary and highschool, nearly dropped out multiple times. He's now a top grade airforce pilot, and he definitely didn't struggle in school because he is unintelligent.
      So again, it comes back to the issue being that inability to evaluate intelligence outside of educational diplomas is a sign of unintelligence.

They also hire pilots medical people best scientists in the worlds best computer engineers etc. So yes the army looks for the idiots in high schools that are failing because there easy targets for manual labor army jobs. But they also hire the best of the best in a lot of other fields and that’s the side of the army few see.

    As someone with dyslexia who couldn't spell the before the 3rd grade, dyslexia is a reading and writing impairment that makes it take more effort to do said things, it's doesn't inheritly make a large difference in skills. Also the fact she can't learn a new language because of dyslexia is inaccurate. Dyslexia doesn't do that.

      It’s been shown that dyslexia can make other languages harder to learn, mostly cause it’s harder for things like associating sounds to letter combinations, and other similar things, though it’s been shown that languages like mandarin are actually easier for people with dyslexia compared to English as they use different parts of the brain.

      Different people with dyslexia have different experiences, but I agree, her experience is not the definitive experience and her idea that it is shows her intelligence. She was using her dyslexia as an excuse for her failures and as evidence for a blatantly incorrect statement that “you can’t get better at learning,” something that’s objectively wrong in every way.

      @@DzinkyDzink I think he did that because of the fact that if you're confident in yourself you know what you're capable of, but in the case of a stranger you aren't a 100% sure, so the only thing you can do is guess based on their merits so the safest bet was to put first what you know for granted and then shuffle the rest of possibilities based on the clues that you're given that in this case are their accomplishments.

    It's just so funny that Maria approached the entire process in a standardised/scientific way - defining intelligence and then ranking them etc (minus the gloating part) but I couldn't at 11:13. She REALLY thought they'd look at social media as part of this experiment instead of an IQ test LMFAO
    Also, it's so interesting to see the same two people who put so much emphasis on the relevance of formal education (which essentially means that they very much trust standardised tests) were the first to come up with excuses for rejecting IQ tests- another standardised test.       To be fair to her, age is a part of the reason she scored as low as she did on the test. IQ scores tend to be highest in people in their mid to late teens due to how the test is optimized and how the score is calculated. Their ranking at the end was actually incorrect, since Sada and Tyler both got the same score and she is 3 years older; she should be 3rd and he is 4th, seeing as the average score for people her age is around 5 points lower than the average at his age.

The process of learning and solving problems are skills that you can improve at with practice, and practicing those skills is a part of receiving a proper education.
      Not to mention that although it's true that more intelligent people would typically make more efficient use of the tools they have than less intelligent people, it's also true that a more intelligent person would be more likely to try to acquire more tools by way of seeking out more education. To paraphrase Isaac Newton: in order to see further than others have seen before, one must stand on the shoulders of giants.

Think about it this way, if you never had to try in school and it bores you, why would you seek out college? F your answer is to get a job or get paid more that is a shortsighted answer. Many highly intelligent highly successful people have dropped out of or never went to formal education. I know I went kinda specific there but just consider that Ilan intelligent person is just like any other, they may enjoy school and learning or hate it. They have no more proclivity to seek out formal education than any other. Einstein once said “The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge, but imagination” knowledge and intelligence are often conflated and your right knowledge can train the mind to think but ultimately it is but a small part of the wholistic concept that is intelligence. Sorry if I came as offensive, I’m not saying getting a PhD is bad, but it’s a poor argument to intelligence, determination yes, work ethic? absolutely, but intelligence? Not quite.

    Tyler is what I love about most people in the military. He doesn’t let his ego get in the way, doesn’t really care what they say about him, and he’s humble which is a trait that I appreciate in anyone that has humility. Also that chick who used her adhd and dyslexia as an excuse to not learn a new language is bullshit because I have dyslexia and adhd and I spent my entire life learning portuguese to pretend to be a member of my family and I still pulled it off.

Dyslexia and ADD makes it more difficult to read, and function in a school setting, but not your ability to learn. It's just that education is a monoculture, that forces every student to learn in the same setting. It's like saying blind people are bad at reading comprehension because they're slowing by using braille.

      It’s true, before I went to University I was like a big fish in a small pond. I wasn’t the smartest in the school but definitely top 10% with little to know effort. Going into Uni I wasn’t anything special, pretty average and it made me feel pretty stupid.

      I mean, I'm in college and I'm extremely confident in my intelligence. Although I agree that you don't have to go to college to be "intelligent" I think your wisdom and general "intelligence" does increase with college. At least in my case.

Somebody who's gone to college but still doesn't know how their taxes or housing works could be considered dumb, because that's actually part of being a functioning citizen. A lot of men and women I've met in the military came across as much more competent and sure of themselves than those I've interacted with in a college environment. I'm assuming it's because we're held to different standards typically (do your job right vs do your homework right).
      When one of them mentioned whether or not the Marine's job could be done by anyone, it reminded me of a lot of people in my area who, despite getting the same training, just suck at various aspects of the job if not the whole thing. I'm assuming that would make them less intelligent in their eyes? I can think of one supervisor who was literally a walking encyclopedia in our field and didn't go to college. He just had the experience.

      If you're going to bring up the Dunning-Kruger effect, you can't really fault them for giving Tyler a low rank. He's literally the only one who ranked himself at number 1. Also, an iq of 112 at 30 is statistically around the same percentile as Tyler's score is reflected in his age group.

I'm not sure what the selection process is for determining who participates in these videos, but I get the impression that they probably tried to choose people who they assumed to be fairly intelligent.

    Being a Marine has a difficult preparation. It not only takes physical work but also emotional and psychological, sometimes the way they treat recruits / young people is horrible and they have to be training day by day. It is obvious that they take tests to know their aptitudes, they even ask them about moral dilemmas. Never underestimate someone's work if you don't know the value or effort behind it.

      To be fair, her score was 112 which is about 1 standard deviation above the average of 100, meaning she is smarter than around 80% of the population. So she's still bright, but just not exceptionally so. Hard work with average intelligence definitely can get you Ph.D., especially in biology, which is not as demanding as Mathematics or Physics.

      Not really, if you look at what each person has actually accomplished there's a concrete basis to judge off of. One person has accomplished the "least", from a general perspective, and it's logical to pick that person as last.
