We finally have the final piece of the Chromebook Plus hardware puzzle in the house, folks! When we were in New York for the event, I figured we’d end up with all the new models, so I didn’t spend a ton of time with the devices on display. And for some reason, this particular Chromebook ended up being one I spent extremely little time with and it was the only one we didn’t end up with. Until now.
With the Acer Chromebook Plus 514, we now have a version of all 8 new Chromebook Plus devices in our hands, just in time for the review onslaught to begin. Though we already reviewed one Chromebook Plus device (the ASUS CM34 Flip), we still have 7 others to tackle. With the Acer Chromebook Plus 514 now in-hand, we can get down to business over the coming weeks. For now, though, it’s time for first impressions on a Chromebook I’ve spent very, very little time with.

I wanna see all these new Chromebook Plus. Side by side compare. Chromebox PLUS????
your video content and quality is super solid. Thank you for providing high quality content!
Great unboxing and love your content!! The only thing I ask is for more Pixel ecosystem coverage (tablets, watches, phones) I would like to see more news and reviews on these products. I'm still waiting for your pixel 8 pro and pixel watch 2 reviews come on guys 😂👍🏾
I'm following this closely -- I need a new Chromebook this year!
Bought the new Asus chromebook plus. Well built, good quality for the money. I owned a CB years ago, I felt it was not ready for prime time and was hoping things would have improved with the new generation. A few things still needing attention, if you want to use a different browser other than Chrome it's not as simple to download and use another browser. Not all Android apps work, and from the ones that do some don't work in landscape mode. Downloading an orientation app does not always work for the stubborn apps. There are other apps that might load along with your Google account that you cannot simply delete or remove from the desktop without having to go into your Google admin panel. I'm hoping these things will change with time. That aside, I love the build quality and price CBP offers.
Opera is working 😊
Thanks a lot for this video! I'm gonna buy my first Chromebook and figured it should be a Chromebook Plus. My major concerns are: Battery life, Screen, Speed and sound. Could you point out which one to get?
Can you do a comparison test between some of the new Intel and Ryzen chips running Borealis? I’m interested to see if there’s a performance or optimization difference between the two processor brands.
Can't wait to see the Lenovo plus books!
Acer Chromebook plus 514 vs Acer Chromebook spin 714 comparison-ish coming would be sooo nice... especially i5 vs ryzen 5 version
Dragonfly Pro STILL hasn't got 118 yet. The zoom meeting I had yesterday would have been better with the camera blur etc.
Nice unboxing. But a lot of stickers on the Chromebook :-(
Is the Touch-Screen glass or plastic? Nice review. Thanks. Between this and the Asus 14 ryzen 3 which is better?
I am on the fence with the "plus" requirements as there are going to be plenty of capable ARM powered chromebooks coming up that will out perform current "plus" models. What are your thoughts? Will there be a "plus" ARM, or will those get the same AI cool additions that only plus models get now?
The "plus" features will be everywhere by next Christmas. I'm holding out.
What is the best one? Are any aluminum builds?
Chrome os finally stepping up their game.
Do any of the Chromebook Plus models take a Sim Card rather than just having to use WiFi??
Why do they never send you top specced chromebooks? Am interested ti see those too.
can you do a video on bet 11-13 inch chromebooks. The 14 and larger ones are nice but they dont seem very portable at times. I have 11.6 inch lenovo one but its hard drive is already 2/3rd way full and thinking getting a chromebook with larger memory.
? What are the usb speeds? Especially the usb c. I notice when reviewers just say usb c, the port speed is at 5mbs, unless stated. Is that true in this case?
Does the screen fold all the way for tablet mode?
My favorite chromebook is the acer chromebook 15 from 2017, the display can lie completely flat and is touch screen. I just wish the display was brighter plus it had usb a ports that I still use since I have a bunch devices that still use usb a. I don't need an adapter to use ports that already came with chromebooks and laptops back in 2017. Nowadays, you have to spend more money on newer devices that already has the ports that was already included with older devices. It does not make any sense for the consumers, it only makes sense for the manufacturers to nickel and dime every amount of money from there consumers and does not benefit the consumers. I miss the days when you pay less and get more, it's the complete opposite, it gets annoying that you have pay for and get less. There are not many options like it used to be since the choices have turned limited with new products when old products are being discontinued and harder to find or when they are no longer available and when they are stopped being made. It already has become a normal thing with consumer products and service . Unfortunately, it's working since the majority of consumers rather pay more and get less since it gets worse every year and it's already happening. 250 nits on a chromebook and laptop is terrible, it's as a dim as an old gameboy screen that can barely be seen even with the brightness maxed out. Even a $50 smartphone has a brighter display than any laptop and any chromebook display. I rather use a $50 smartphone display than a laptop display since the manufacturers choose to use inferior displays on budget and expensive laptops and chromebooks just so they can jack up the price of the laptops and chromebooks even with a crappy display whether the laptop is budget or expensive. There are newer and better displays that are brighter and have better quality yet the expensive laptops get the same garbage displays just like the cheap laptop displays.
Great feedback and info.Thank You. Will avoid getting inferior stuff at over the top prices. Your feedback helped me make a decision. Thank You again.
And here I thought it was old, 66, eyes LOL
I loved my Acer15...well said!
The 513 had a muchmore slimmer appealing design. Definitely prefer the older design
will chromebook plus finally get high end streaming certification?
Can you tell me about Chromebook Plus' Connecting WiFi and Bluetooth for the future?
if you wanna know the price of this i just visited their website(April 17, 2024)
It,
around 400 dollers for the 128gb
and around 449 dollers for the 256 gb.
It seems like on the official site and retailers it says this isn't a touch screen, I am in europe tho is that the reason it has a different screen?
Would love to see this up against the Asus CX34
Can these Chromebooks output higher refresh rates than the built-in 60hz display to an external monitor?
yes
I try to make friends with the CB514 after 4 hours. the keyboard is a bit spongy compared to my Lenovo Flex 5i before. but the worst are the speakers. why do they wear the DTS logo? they have no bass, because every phone has more volume. so a pity.
Just bought this Chromebook at Costco about a week ago at $299. The Chromebook is great for the price but the speakers are definitely terrible, which I could care less about. Highly recommend it at $299.
This chromebook is compatible with linux developer?
Does anyone know if this is user upgradeable? Like RAM and SSD? Just wondering because I want to be able to use this for more than a few years. I've searched and searched but can't find a teardown of this model. Thanks in advance!

Which one of these have the best looking screen and the most rigged keyboard?
The Vero is still the better looking one, IMO :)
True. But squished 16:9 screen.
Does anyone know if there is a 15.6 inch Chromebook Plus with Back Lite keyboard ?? HP has a 15.6, but no backlite keypad. It's a must for me.
The acer 515 is 15.6 inch, possibly had a backlit keyboard.
No the Acer 515 does not have a backlite keyboard. @@Mantenner
This one does light ip
Hope you specify whether a chromebook has or does not have a fingerprint reader, which I appreciate is present.
It doesn't really matter.
This one doesn't.
👍
I would just wear a headset like I always do with my laptops. Not all laptops have great speakers.
What's your favourite Chromebook?
When this Chromebook plus will be launched in India
No new ARM based ones yet?
What's a Kensington lock?
What's Google?
It's a physical lock. A metal tab slides into the slot on the laptop chassis and you rotate it with the key to lock it in place. The lock has a metal cable that you secure to an anchor point. We use them in not-very-secure work cubicles, public facing service desks, and public-use computers.
Acer chromebook speakers have always sucked.
first!
Again no micro SD or standard SD card slot....poor data storage. not worth wasting my money on....slightly more than a toy to let the kids play with.
My Acer 514 has sd card slot.
