Rublev looked more happy winning the Madrid doubles titles than he did when he won the Monte Carlo singles titles
Monte Carlo, it was more a sense of relief, like he finally won a Masters 1000. This one, he just wants to have fun playing double and winning is a bonus

@@peace4myhearthe plays double for money, not only for fun. He comes to Madrid, plays single and doubles, earns much more money than only playing singles and getting eliminated in first rounds

Great match, So good to see Rohan playing with such a fighting spirit at his age. Matt and Rohan has good style to compliment each other. Rublev and Karen are such an amazing mates who played against each other in singles but no hard feelings carried and gave it all out for doubles. Awesome final.
Agreed, and even though Bopanna lost a close one, at 43 years old he was putting a doubles clinic on display for the younger ones on court to learn from :)

What a performance by Bopanna as well, my man went toe to toe with the big hitting Russians in every one of those baseline rallies, despite this being the biggest unhidden weakness of his game in the recent past. The way he serves and steals a ton of free points at this age is absolutely bonkers. This guy really deserved more, the career stats don't do justice to his doubles acumen. He's kinda David Ferrer of doubles ngl.

How about Bopanna holding his own in baseline rallies with big hitters like Rublev and Khachanov though? Extremely impressive hitting. You wouldn't know he was 43
yeah this is something that pleasantly surprised me. I could almost see K/R attacking Bopanna at the baseline and him struggling (just like Stefani and Matos did at the AO mixed final) since he struggles so much with the consistency of his groundstrokes, but man he was literally toe to toe with every single forehand he exchanged in those rallies from the behind. What a legend.

Most of the time, doubles specialist should beat 2 singles players. But in this match, Rublev and Kachanov both just played better. Served better, faster reflexes, got more balls back, harder groundstrokes. Their pure talent overcame tactical deficiencies. Well done.
When two to singles players play together, they are often better than the double specialist if they don't play just to warm up for single.
