Back when things were made well, with pride. German engineering, American engineering, etc. All of it was exponentially better than the crap we have today.
We need a firearm company strictly for exact replica remakes of all the guns through out the centuray expecially ww2
Groovy Panda and at a good price
Try buying an MP40 these days.
TheTyler701 I didn’t mean it in that way, sorry. I meant it as in the asking price for an mp40 is pretty high.
GSG is currently importing MP40 replicas although your forced to either have a stockless one (thus legally making it a pistol) or have one with a false suppressor that gives it a legal barrel length.
that's pretty cool, i'll have to check out if I can own one in California.
The rifle was issued with 3 magazines. One in the rifle and two in an Ammo pouch carried on the soldier's left side. On the soldier's right side was the standard K98K Ammo pouch carrying 30 rounds in 6 five round stripper clips. The soldier could then load a magazine into the rifle with the left hand, keeping the right hand on the stock, the release the bolt so it could go forward. Using the right hand one could load 2 five round stripper clips into the 10 round magazine using the stripper clip guides on the receiver. The rifle came with a scope rail and was also used as a sniper weapon. The STG-44 soon replaced the G-43 as a replacement to the K98K. Good rifle for sure.
Gene Garren The G43 did never replace the K98k, the Stg44 did't replace the G43. They didn't have the manufacturing capacities at the time
Wait so you could not only use magazines but also stripper clips aswell? German engineering truly is the best, Stroheim was right.
@@virgilio6349 The British Lee Enfield was capable of using magazines as well as stripper clips, but they decided to just make the magazine non-removable. Also, it had 10 rounds. Best gun 10/10
@@thepainkiller4939 the sad thing is Enfield clips were also 5 round so sometimes in the heat of the battle soldiers would just reload 1 clip and shoot back instead of taking their time to load 2 clips
Ambidextrous Combat regiments? Thats pretty damn smart.

Given that they Germans hadn't fought the Americans until about 1943, and there was a G41, it's much more likely that it was built to emulate the Soviet SVT-40 encountered during Barbarossa, rather than the Garand.
Yes this is true, the G43 copied the SVT-40's gas system. However Germany's ally, Japan, fought the Americans earlier, and the Japanese even tried to make a mechanical copy of the M1 Garand.
EDIT: Despite what the uninformed Wehraboo below me says, German and Japanese cooperation definitely did exist. And in fact the Japanese based many of their tactics on German doctrine. Which actually ironically kind of became a mistake most of the time. For instance Japan copied Germany's paratrooper tactics, which as we all know were pretty terrible at the time before the Germans revised it.
Japanese and German cooperation is much less in-depth than people think they actually did
Yeah, "japanese", of course
Some people can think literally of anyone just to give no credit to famous russian arms designers. Gew. 43 has a gas mechanism copied from SVT-40 to replace the unreliable one of the previous model - Gewehr 42
Germans started fighting the Americans in North Africa in 1942.
@@happybeingmiserable4668 Sure, in the middle of November, so sure, I'll grant you about +40 days in 1942. The first real fighting for the Americans was at Kasserine in Feb 1943.
And to put it in perspective, Kasserine saw the Americans and Brits with 30,000 men losing to a German/Italian force of 22,000 men. Around the same time the Red Army was fighting the Third Battle of Kharkhov, against 70,000-130,000 German forces, with the Red Army also losing despite deploying 210,000 men.
That should make you think about one thing - the crack German forces were on the Eastern Front at the time.

One of the reasons that I love about Old Military Rifles over Modern Military Rifles is that they have wood. It kind of gives a soul to the gun unlike when it is fully metal.
Newsflash.....there are no rifles made completely out of metal. Polymer replaced the wood.
@@zoranhome That was kind of rude. Guy was just expressing his opinion. He never made a statement claiming any rifle was made completely out of metal so what you're saying doesn't even make sense.
Indeed, most modern weapons are now made of plastic with just the barrel, and bolt metal parts won't be long before they find a plastic capable of handling bullets
Exactly 💯...well said .. modern rifles have little to no character

Back in the early 70s I owned 3 of these jewels. The most remarkable thing I remember about mine was how far the rifle flung the spent case after firing. It must have been 30 feet or more! Every case I fired ended up bent at the mouth. I was fortunate enough to have an endless supply of WW2 German steel core ammo for it. What a power house those original cartridges were! The rifles all had a distinctive aroma to them too. Lucky you for being able to handle one now!
Being sort of a history geek I really appreciate the fact you show and shoot historical firearms.

yes and then listen to that rifle in cod world at war haha its a joke
To the "you dont need hearing protection" crowd... 115 DB is the highest safe sound and only for brief exposure. A gunshot is around 140 DB and the sound doubles for every increase of 10 DB so a gunshot is 2.5× the maximum safe noise and that is for an outdoor gunshot.
The gewehr 40 and 43 were direct responses to the Germans fighting the Soviets. They had captured many svt-38 and svt-40s and were impressed by how well they functioned in cold and dirty environments. The Germans hadn't had much experience to this point facing the Garand. So it would be inaccurate saying this rifle was designed due to the success of the m1 Garand.

For some reason the 8mm Mauser really appeals to me even in rifles outside German surplus rifles. I think it might be the larger bullet to create a larger wound channel than 30-06 (in theory)? It just feels like a good caliber to me.
I like it, too. It never seems as loud to me as the .308 or .30-06.
The original German ammo I once had in the 70's were powerhouses! 195 grain steel core bullets in a steel case. It would penetrate into the water jacket of an engine. The hunting loads we found back then seemed a bit watered down compared the original 1943 loads.
Military rounds are frequently loaded hotter than their civilian counterparts. You could probably wring a bit more range out of a Garand than a G43 but both are good rifles.

it does create a larger wound, used to have one for deer and they'd make holes the size of your fist lol

You lucky dog!!! I've always wanted to own a G43. I've held them but never fired one. I agree they are a handsome looking rifle, just like the K98k is for the bolt action rifles. The history of military arms has always been very interesting also. Thanks for the video.

I love the sound of this gun when it fires. Not the report of the round, the plu-chunk of the flapper locking gas operated short stroke piston that throws the old round and loads anew.
It was my favorite weapon in Call of Duty: World at War; I could listen to it fire for hours (though bullet report is always majorly off in games...)
The only thing we need now is the M1 Garand & Carbine captured in 60 fps Full HD. Do those puppies a favor, Hick. They deserve it.
Please.
The gun is notorious for having reliability issues in war. Its quite a beauty though
the original 8mm mauser round was too strong for the non treated steel of the gun which resulted in cracking of the barrel and receiver.
thats what happens when you try to build as many guns as possible in as short a time span as demanded by the wehrmacht.
Uteriel Add onto that the sheer complexity of the weapon
The german's deliberately over gassed them to make them more reliable in combat, but over time this often times made the rifles crack apart. He didn't say it but I noticed the replaced gas system in the gun.
The G43 is my favorite rifle ..even over the stg 44 ...there's just something so beautiful about the wood stock and reciver..not to mention it's my go to infantry rifle on battle field 5 ..there's beauty in simplicity ❤
I started watching your reviews because I was interested in getting my CCW and I was looking for reviews on carry pistols. I grew up in the country and had fired a wide variety of shotguns and rifles. I even have spent some quality time with the M-16 and M-60, but I have very limited experience with handguns. I enjoyed the various carry gun reviews you have done, but I have to admit though I got hooked when you brought out the classic firearms. The history geek in me made me subscribe. Keep them coming.
I had a M1 made in 44 once. I think this Gewer is the yin to its yang.
The G43 is often forgotten about when it comes to popular WW2 guns, and it ain't my favorite, but it just looks really nice.

Can't believe that I"m saying this, but I really covet this more than an M1 Garand or an M1 Carbine.
DutchManticore you aren't the only one my friend!:)
Elegant? Not really... It was a design that was outdated years before it was introduced, and was stupidly complex for a semi-auto, like most WW2-era German equipment. Regardless, it does look beautiful and is probably a joy to shoot.
Bruh it's perhaps the worst weapon of WW2. The weapons are so overgassed that it'll crack the bolt. The receivers are poorly heat treated and the metal is rarely even finished.
Just because it's German doesn't mean it's good.
Zac the idea was good. They didn’t have the production capacity to finish their guns properly.
Still very impressive that they produced this gun.
Look at the Mg34, it’s a piece of art 👌 the ones made before WW2 were extremely well made!
@@zac4434 I'd like to have one just to have one. I might not ever shoot it but it would be a nice addition to the collection as I'd like to be able to acquire all the main infantry bolt action and semi auto rifles from WW2. Probably won't get them all but if I could get a few I'd be happy. You're right on the Gewehr 43 though. The rifle is nice but I watched a documentary once and they said some G43s were so rushed in production that the bolts would break because they were cast and not finished properly. The one Hickok 45 is a nice one, but if I were to get a G43 I'd probably hang it on the wall as a display.

Charles McCarron how can I describe? Heart of Europe, tiny state, horrible house prices. If you'd like to own a firearm, you'll need a reason. Either it's collecting (you have to say what exactly you'd like to collect), or sport (you have to join a shooting club!) or for hunting. It takes 3 month to get your first permission and one month for each new request. Oh and never use it for self defense. :-)
+Charles McCarron sounds like Austria.

+Charles McCarron Freedom doesn't equal owning a gun. Maybe you shouldn't comment on countries you've never been to and know nothing about it's culture or laws. Luxembourg is pretty much the safest country in Europe, and the smallest. As for me personally, while I am intrested in fire arms and can own them, i'd not feel safer with one in the house. Nor do I entertain the illusion that i'd need one to stop my government from oppressing me which seems to be the case with a lot of people in the USA. I think freedom means more then owning a gun, the freedom to think what you want. live how you want, say what you want. I don't see the need for weapons anywhere in there unless ofcourse the democratic process has failed and citizen have no say anymore.
Jack of all trades, master of none. But better a jack than a master of one.
I noticed the same length of pull with my SKS. It seemed just a bit too short for me to use comfortably. I ultimately bought a monte carlo polymer replacement. It does make it easier for me to shoot but it doesn't have that same visual appeal the SKS has. If they came out with an aftermarket stock with maybe an inch longer stock, I'd get one of those for it. (I swapped my wood stock for another aftermarket stock from a friend of mine. He got his SKS with that stock but really wanted a wood stock for his. I swapped with him, and he refinished the wood stock and put it on his SKS. He then gave it to his Dad.

I do so enjoy viewing the demonstration of any and all firearms. You and your son are a favorite of this citizen. I have a request that may not be so easily accomplished. A Sturm Gevehr 44 is what I think I saw Brad Pitt using in the WWII depiction of tank service and drama. It caught my eye immediately and I am interested in anything in the way you would present it.
When I got into collecting back in the mid 70s, these were $125 at the gun shows. I fell in love with the look of these things...all business, very military, kind of rough with a hint of desperation, but good looking at the same time. It was fun to note the variety in terms of markings, component changes, and general appearance between specimens. We pulled a fair amount of range time with them, sometimes in freezing weather. As long as the recoil springs weren't fatigued, the gas system was clean, and the bolt lubed, these guns ran pretty well. A Shotgun News editor, Pete Kokalis, called the G/K-43s "near pathetic". But to me, the damned things just ooze character and history. Picture what your favorite American gun would look like if it was mass produced by slaves, in a country that was losing the biggest war in history, and in industrial centers that were being bombed around the clock. They are kind of a metaphor for German war equipment of that era.
I love how this rifle looks when it fires.

A long time ago when I weighed in at 141 lbs ,I fired this rifle at a floating tire complete with air.I sunk it with three shots. It knocked my shoulder some but it is a kick-ass rifle.
If every Nazi infantryman had these from the start, I often wonder if some later battles might have turned out differently. WW2 fighting was very close in man to man combat. Having to operate a bolt action in such scenarios must've cost many a life.
@Wayne Gale in my opinion probably not, the battle of stalingrad was won by superior tactics from the russians and the incompetence of the germans. the russians essentially flanked and cut off the city and isolated it from any german contact. once they did that they essentially just had to deal with the germans that were left in the city. although its no doubt the G43's semi auto, lightweight and shorter design would have suited the battle slightly better.
@@keith2860 Blame the romanians and hungarians for that. It was their job to protect the flanks.
@@seuche92 eh i cant really blame them, they were essentially no match for what came to them. when trying to secure a city you may want to consider all possibilities and consider them seriously. Germany should have done more to protect the flanks rather than have thinly spread romanians cover it.
@@keith2860 Well that's true
if you have ever played hell let loose... you know it buddy ;)
