Dump loads are a waste, but you always have to have one on a wind turbine. There is however nothing to stop you also having a dump load to a water heater, and only dumping to the air when the water heater can't accept any more energy.

I've built VAWTs for over 50 years, but all my turbines are geared down 60:1 and compress air. I have a plethora of pressure vessels and my turbines keep the pressure at 120 psig. I then run compressed air through modified steam engines to produce 120 vac, 220 vac, single- and three-phase a.c. and direct current for charging electric fence batteries, etc. Building electricity directly from the turbine is a never-ending rabbit hole - too many variables.

MY air is free. When the wind blows (I live in Texas, mind you, and there's ALWAYS wind) my turbines spin up and compress it (the wind . . . air).
I'd bet you lunch my air tanks will outlast ANY other storage battery you come up with!
I've been at this nearly 60 years. How long have you been at it - storing electricity in batteries?

    • @Bialy_1
      @Bialy_1 Před 4 lety

From what i heard it is good to not have even number of blades in case of horisontal wind turbine because the blade will gonna interact with wind disturbed and slowed by the tower and it will transfer created vibrations to the blade on the oposite side(but there are big horisontal wind turbines with only two blades...). 3 blades is a minimal number to have disc like behaviour/stability(for horisontal wind turbine).
But i dont think that all that is significant for VAWT.
Number of blades will gonna influence speed of rotation, more blades=slower but you will gonna get more torque(with the same distance of blades from the axis of rotation), so 4 blades will be slower than 3 blade system but it will gonna spin faster than 6 blades turbine(with the same radius).
Also more blades=less efficient. as the air flow wil be more turbulent as the blades are closer to each other.
Bigger version from this company ECOROTE 9800 have 5 blades.

yep it looks nice, but more power? everybody say that it is less. Anyway, looking at price I see that it cost three times more than a similar power rated horizontal axis turbine.
I even invented a ”better” design as a child and was curious if this kind of turbines are efficient.
My idea was to increase the surface of the wings without hindering at return. Even the angle of the wing is helping for a side to be pressed less than the other one, at return there is load on it. What to do to have the wing on a side and vanish at return? My design was a door like wing with the hinge on the outside. so when the blade face the wind the door will be closed and wind hit it on thin section. 90 degrees later the door still closed and pushed closed in the frame of the blade, so will oppose the wind with full surface. 90 degrees later again no wind resistance, still closed but wind is hitting the thin section. but few degrees later the door will open since the frame will be toward wind. when the frame will fully face the wind the door will be open, hanging on the hinge, offering the least resistance to the wind. Made a model for testing, and it was spinning like crazy, so the theory works. But had no idea about efficiency. And I really doubt that vibrations will be easy to control. Maybe only in huge models with slow speed. But I realize now that this models are not so efficient.
      This means no more power.

Do you have some daily kwh generated? most the times in the video its like 1.7 kwh, small numbers, depending time of day of course you shot it.. would be curious to see a daily chart for maybe a streight week :)

@@bmsfx thanks for the link. wow, not very good ROI, So there are about 3MWh in three years. this is about 750 euro. Two more years for ROI. And I am not sure if the pole and installation is included, I assume not. Plus the inverters wires and all. Maybe goes toward 10 years ROI. But still good, if it works two or three decades. However, I see that prices for a similar size horizontal axis, is the third of the price, and it seems that efficiency is better for those. I need to find similar production table to compare the real output.
Interesting. pvoutput.org/aggregate.jsp?id=45656&sid=41631&v=0&t=y is a solar install of similar output. Comparing apples with oranges... and more, at both not all the data is recorded, since is mentioned partial years. However, for the solar system I see a target of 1600 USD. It s quite cheap, so maybe is a second hand system or a nice grant. But that target was met twice, so even with market price the system is almost paid back. better than wind.

@@ehombane This link shows the produced energy of PV sun panels not of this wind turbine. Unfortunately we do not get quit easy any feedback from
Mikrogeneracja... I would be interested on the axial flux generator and the wind turbine, in terms of conception, parts and dimensions to buy one other make one my self.

@@tonyfernandes7592 I was not the one to claim that the link is showing the windmill production. Bmsfx commented previously about the link as you can see. I took it as true information. I noticed that the site is dedicated to solar panels, but I assumed that the guy found it useful for windmills too. In fact is just monitoring production, it does nor matter what produced it. Sure, if many will do this, will mess with global stats, , but we wee interested only on that turbine production.
Now that you mentioned it, I looked with more attention at graphs, and it looks like solar, I mean rising in summers and lower in winters. I assume in winter is more wind. And looking for some stats in my country, my assumption is right. But what do I know, maybe in Ireland the wind is different related to seasons. I have no idea, maybe the guy who posted the link got confused.
