  • Hi, everyone. We are Sean and Pia with our three chihuahuas: Chewbacca, BobaFett and Bail Organa (with our little angels, Yoda and Jabba).
On this episode 88, we are headed to Death Valley National Park but have to stop somewhere for the night before it got too dark.
Please join us and our chihuahuas as we share our van life explorations, and please feel free to leave us comments below. We appreciate any feedback you may have. Thank you again for watching!

That was a nice spot you found! We haver not been to that one, I wasn't sure from the footage but it looked like it might have been a bit tight for a travel trailer? We love Death valley and didn't get there this year to see the water. Thanks for sharing this, nice job on the footage, story and editing!

Yes I think you guys might have been in the area from your past videos around Ballarat. This spot is a bit closer to Death Valley and there was definitely a bit spot that had a few travel trailers setup for a fun weekend. We decided to mozy further toward the mountains and there were more than a few groups we saw go further up the hills than we were willing to go. The roads def got dicey for the van a bit further up.

  • @lannyandroxanneadvantures2546

Sean, you need to put some offroad lights on the top of the van for those dark desert roads. Great location!

@VanDoghies I bought a 52" light bar and mounted it to the roof rack. Lights up the night...lol

Woo! I always like to catch a glimpse of Trona. Are you still looking for a tire carrier? I picked up the Owl Transit version in March along with B2 / Expedition box / bike tray. Really liking them. Opened up a lot of extra space inside.

Nice! Yes we love that drive to Death Valley and always enjoy Trona since that was our first big STO meetup! We actually ended up buying the Aluminess setup but the Owl looks amazing too! Are you hauling an E, mountain or road bike?

@@VanDoghies It's a gravel bike. A cross between mountain and road. They sit pretty high up if you also have a storage box so weight is a consideration for getting the bike up and back down.

Sounds awesome! Are you going to get the hydraulic door rails from Canyon?

@@VanDoghies Do they make those for the Transit? Getting something like that has certainly crossed my mind. I've been considering a length of cord tied to top of door just in case. If the Transit door locks give way in the wind the side of the van is going to have a really bad day.

Thank you for the video, enjoyed watching it. I will be getting my 1st RV soon and new to this, so a few questions for you:
    - Any concerns regarding snakes and stuff, how do you manage?
    - Any safety concerns overall?
    - Finally, in the BLM where you stayed, if some other camper just pulls up and decided to camp a few feet from you, would u leave? Or assume they are a friendly neighbor? Would that be a safety concern for you?

    • @VanDoghies
      @VanDoghies  Před 11 dny +1

Critters are always a concern out in the mountains, forests or desert but our general philosophy is if we don't bug them they won't bug us. The leave no trace mentality. So far we have encountered bears, snakes, and mountain lions and the only time I (Sean) personally felt at risk was the mountain lions since they did stalk our dogs for a bit on a mountain trail.
      - Safety is def a big topic out in the wild. There are lots of channels and people in the rv community that talk about EDC and personal defense. So far we have taken a few measure but haven't felt a risk or need to use it. We do enjoy camping as a group when we can, so the biggest scares have been when we are on our own and your last question has def come into play.
      - We have both had folks come into our space where we thought we would be alone, and we have arrived late at night to spaces that we hoped would be vacant and just weren't but we didn't want to leave and find something else. We have been fine so far and we do prefer the secluded public spots rather than a rest stop or Love's parking lot. (We have done it all and Love's has been our biggest scare so far)...happy to elaborate in future videos too!

@@VanDoghies Thank you very much for providing a comprehensive feedback. I will be going solo, so hope I'll make it in one piece :) . If you do a video on safety, humans or critters alike, would be great, including examples of what happened and how you mitigated. I will watch it for sure. Frankly, safety, is my biggest concern, specially going solo. Thanks again!
