Everyone, the bed floor is removable so you can access the battery, and the struts bolt in from the bottom up so nothing is covered!
Is it made from stainless? You guy didn't prime any of the panels. Thanks, car looks 'Heeps better' as someone w/ a Ute would say.
Its great Aussie slang a ute
Aren't you going to end up with a pool of water in the spare tire well just hanging out with those electrical cables and the battery?
100% Ute.....Champions.
I would have liked a steel inner structure for the bed, the rivets seem a little sketchy for me (obviously not in real life).
I love how Jared can barely contain his excitement for the entire video.
Yessss 😊🤘🏽🔥
I don't think I've ever seen Jared smile so big or for so long in a video. So glad he's enjoying the new ute!
Good people deserve good friends; and I’m so so glad Tavarish, Jared, and Jack found each other! Made for some amazing content, but I’m so happy these highly skilled good people found each other!
This build was absolutely... riveting. Some say Jared is still adding more to this very day. Happy to see Roadblock getting a, what is it on now, 4th chance (between the two donors and the ute config?) You could make a movie about this car's life.
Movie car movie 2 electric boogaloo
Coming soon to a theater near you.
I was glued to the screen.
The UTE or Coupe Utility came about in 1933 when an Australian farmers wife from Gippsland, Victoria wrote to Ford Australia and asked if they would design a vehicle that could take her to Church on Sunday and the pigs to market on Monday. Ford Australia liked the idea and handed the project to designer Lew Bandt. He removed the back of a coupe and formed a well back tray in its place. The new Ford UTE went into production in 1934 and the legend of the great Aussie UTE began. Your pronunciation of UTE is correct.
Yep! Exactly as you said, ute is shorthand for utility.
Utes are like a mullet.
Business up front
Party in the back
Awesome idea. Original and a great rescue effort for a car that was one foot away from the scrap yard.
Mixed feelings. It's a great car, so I am happy to see it saved. But man... I dunno. We'll see when it's driving I guess though.
starts life as a "movie car" and a police car, the best parts of both get merged to make a working car, but said car becomes a road block for a tree and safes several other cars, it then becomes a police car, movie car, ute.
Nah.. just buy a Holden HSV Maloo ute from Australia, it will be faster, handle better.. and no plastic panels...
My mate in America, got his 3 months ago, and his neighbours can't stop pawing over it.. they can't understand why it handles so well, and does 0 to 60 in 4 seconds.. on street legal tyres..
It's worse
It's not really an original idea. Ford and Chevrolet did it many years ago. and people have done conversations on other vehicles since then. like the Cadillac in the "Blue's Brothers" movie. and they made kits for Volkswagen Bugs. and there are a lot people who have converted station wagons into pickups.
I like the homage by Jack to the Mighty Car Mods channel! He has definitely shown his worth!
I would love to see mightycarmods do a collaboration
@@ajthunder85 definitely would be cool
MCM also built a ute out of a Subaru a few years back if I remember correctly
SubarUTE, they wanted to build something representative of australi…
It was a collab with roadkill
I wish they did more good CZcams collabs, really need some good ones
Chopped!
Love the fact that Jack has a MightyCarMods t-shirt on.
+100 points to Editor Duane for timing the hammer strikes to the music's beat. Good job.
And you get 100 Wrench points that are good for...well, nothing. Execept for the bragging rights to having 100 Wrench points :). - Editor Duane
Roadblock is now a Dodge Rampage 🥳
What a cool project!
Ooh! Good call!
I forgot about those myself
Rampaging roadblock
@@romonecrosby Roadblock Rampage
@@keithjones589 Yep. Basically a VW Caddy.
I would add a roll bar to this. There's barely any structure left in that rear (of the cabin). This would also serve to tie everything together with the right amount of tabs added to it. Can be retrofitted even if the car's done.
And the roll bar makes a good place for lights to live!!
Rather than sawing big holes into their freshly rived aluminum, in order to properly install a structural roll bar, I would probably go with some underbody stitch welding of the seams and subframe connectors. I might have also used some panel bond on the riveted parts, but that's water under the bridge...
The location between the cab and the wheel wells isn't all that usable anyway, and adding a roll bar there would certainly add some structure that is missing. One possible place to triangulate a roll bar would be to tie into the tops of the rear shock mounts. While you're in there, you could also upgrade the shocks and if you add airbags inside the springs, it would make the ute's bed much more usable for hauling stuff. This would also be a good time to add a receiver hitch. What's a truck that can't tow?
@@WhiskyCardinalWes Flashing lights, of course.
@@TheKiltedYaksman1 this kit looks great for looks, not so great structurally. Steel panels and reinforcements pieces welded together, would ensure it working as a proper pick-up. Not that great with rivets and glued panels.
great vid! love the fact that Jack had a Mighty car mods t-shirt on as they built the Subarute a couple years back for the Roadkill show
Jack has been a godsend to Wrench Every Day! You are phenomenal!
Plus the shirt he wore on day two was very appropriate.
Ya, Jared finally has someone to help him work on vehicles!
Jack is a great addition to the channel.
I love how Jack is wearing a Mighty Car Mods shirt while building a Ute.
Love Jack’s Mighty Car Mods shirt. Add a roll bar to add strength with spot lights and you’ll have the Aussie look sorted
Great video! Glad I got to be a part of your Ute Charger build, you should Hellcat it 👀
I think try and find a totalled of Hemi 300c with their AWD, and 4x4 it!
Awesome work Jack. You made this look so easy, blacked out safety squints and all. Is that "straight outta bondo" t-shirt available for sale? Sub'd to your channel!
@@misterclean12 Thanks love being able to work with my friends Freddy and Jared both great guys
This was a proper old-school video of "Completing X in Just Two Days".
Roadblock has become a truly unique machine; part movie cop car, part genuine cop car, part Ute conversion.
Jack for MVP.
Now you can't get rid of Jack anymore, he has really proven his value to the channels you run! Great project!
Indeed, he was a good add
Jack is a great addition to the channel.
Respect for Jack wearing a MCM t-shirt. We Aussies love our ute's, this one looks a little rough and old tech and design but I am sure it will rip massive skids.
Subarute
Editor duane went hard on this episode, glad to see your skills grow with the channel duane!
Thanks for the kind words... You are appreciated :). -Editor Duane
Jack wearing the the mighty car mods t-shirt while building the ute was hilarious just check when those guys made a ute for the Roadkill guy's
Jack just made a ute and was wearing a mighty car mod shirt perfect
This is awesome! I am glad to see Jared get something cool an unique. I realize that Freddy is the money in this operation, but without Jared, there would have been no builds, no CarTrek, ect. I honestly felt bad seeing Freddy get an amazing Hellcat widebody (built by Jared), and Jared get a couple scrap cars to work with.
Johnny Rev: am I boring you?
Just change your perspective. Jared is doing an excellent job of making the most out of this. At the same time, growing his content, building his brand & income thru this, which will all work out for him just fine, which is true in any endeavor when you stop focusing on the negatives, and trying to compare one situation to another.
@@carsareaddictive7450 on one hand, I agree. But on the other, I just feel like Freddy changed, not for the better, when his channel blew up. If you go back and watch the Supra series vs. this build, there is just a very different “vibe”. There just seems to be a lack of appreciation.
Jack is a great addition to the channel. Jared Is so humble. I don’t think he is in it for the money or fame. I think he just loves wrenching. It’s a dream job for him.
Cool 😂
My original thought was make it a truck, it'd be unique, and I think "fety Se" approves! She looks good.
She'll be fine Jared. You guys did a great job.
Agreed, but it really does need a proper tube roll cage to beef up that back half rigidity and strength.
you should include an iron on tree patch for the t-shirt to make it more accurate
A ute is an Australia derived car verses truck in one, and how fitting that Jack is wearing a mighty car mods tshirt from down under......Got to love Jack.
They were here, too, in the bigger states. The last cuv sold in America, was the Baja.
Tavarish: "WE turn the charger into a Ute".
Jake and Jared: Doing all the work while Tavarish is mostly "supervising".....
I've missed you guys working on a build. I bet youre experts with panel bond after doing your McClaren!! Awesome job guys!
I was also thinking about the McLaren. Wondering if they were using the same panel bond. If so, then the two tubes they used probably cost more than the entire Ute!
if
Smyth Performance just gave you hurried scratch parts , I definitely want the retail ready parts they produce , that is quality , I love it's look already , well done guys , & Tavarish lol.
Wanna bet their website just crashed.
every kit they make is top notch .. the owner used to own factory 5 so he has lots of kit car experience
@@scootersfrog doing a pick-up conversion using panels with rivets and fiber glass side panels glued? What about the structural integrity? This could work, if it's just for show.
@@RogerM88 what about it? i have no clue i didn't engineer it but im sure the same integrity is put back in as you cut off just in a different way .. i know this man has had years of experience with kit car manufacture so id bet he knows all about that 🤷♂
@@RogerM88 also rivet and panel bond is not new way of building a car most cars built today are mostly glued together welded sub panels hell some cars are 100% panel bonded together
As an Australian I fully approve of this UTE conversion, bloody great build guys, 👍🏼👍🏼🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘Cheers from Melbourne Australia
I love how Tavarish literally did the bare minimum 😂😂😂
This is what other CZcamsrs needs to get on when it comes to content . I’ve never seen anyone does this and I really enjoy watching it . If you ever come up with T-shirt with this “truck” on it I’m purchasing haha
Have the international with Roadblock. "Truck" "Not truck"
I can't believe you never see anybody do anything like this before seeing Tesla's turning the trucks and numerous other cars all across CZcams. See that's when things get boring is when you have everybody doing the same type of stuff
You should watch the subarute build from mcm (which they did in the roadkill challange)
@@niels12321 oh trust me I've seen it it's freaking awesome
Nice touch with the My cousin Vinnie bit.. 😂😆
As an Australian, I appreciate this build 👍
The joy on Jared's face is priceless and what an awesome build 👍
Awesome new direction! IMO I would love to see you wrap the remaining blue panels in black and throw some bedliner in the back to make it a true black and white. Either way… I can’t wait to see it completed!
The editing is getting much slicker with every episode. 👍
Thanks Steve! Good to know there are people like you who not only appreciate projects like this, but also appreciate what it takes to make them fun to watch :). Cheers! -Duane the Editor
it's almost like he dropped the tree on the car on purpose. This is great
This has been my Favorite build so far on the channel. I’m sure the Ausi fans are loving it!
Smyth Performance is Mark Smith, the co-founder of Factory Five. Mark split off from FFR and started Smyth Performance several years ago. Great guy.
This channel never ceases to suprise and entertain. Definitely my favorite automotive channel. Keep it up!
Payload is around 900 lbs. This kit has been high up my want list for a while (I wanted the early Golf, but figured I wouldn’t fit). Though I’d be 1000x slower, it didn’t look like anything would be outside of what I could figure out. Looking forward to your full review!
Payload is usually about three to four sheep mate. Depending on the age and condition of the sheep.
It is so cool how Jared is so happy and excited. Cant wait to see this finished
This was the most environmental friendly, economical and the most interesting, quick, amazing, exciting and good looking project which is ever done in the history of this channel. I really loved the video. Thanks Tavarish, Jared, and Jack.
By the way, I am very proud of what you have accomplished in just two days and I am also excited for the final touches and reveal of this completed Dodge Charger UTE Edition.
I truly appreciate Jack and his dry sense of humour, good addition🤙
Great idea only one problem I see how the hell you going to get the battery out.
I came looking for this comment, and I was not disappointed
The floor is removable. I might look into making to latch and hinge up to use it like a Honda Ridgeline bed trunk
You can ask WatchJRGo, this is a project I've been wanting to do for years and it's so cool to see someone doing it!
Followed Smyth back a while. The founder was one of the founders of Factory Five and thier original car was a sports car based on the Mk4 Jetta. Don't think it sold very well, but then they came up with the UTE idea, originally for the Jetta, then others. Seems to be quite popular.
Mark sold Factory Five to his brother and had to do a 5 year no compete that was in 2012. He was working on this idea and in 2017 he started selling. Mark is a cool guy and very accessible the number on the Smyth website is his cell phone and he will talk your ear off but you will love every second of it.
That smile on Jared's face at 2:13 tells me he knows a thing or two about using reciprocating saws...
That is going to be an amazing result. I would so drive it myself. I would love to come and see it for myself. I would drive up on a weekend to see it. I have just one question though. How will you access the battery that is under the bed now?
I said the same thing,as I usually watch,I don't wait and comment, towards the end it was remedied ,I also made that comment, I want to see how he responds on the next video and see if he answers this question
it has an access panel
I have thought of doing this to a Dodge Magnum ever since we owned a 2005. I still think the coolest looking kit Smyth offers is for the New Beetle, but this is awesome. Can't wait to see the finished ute!
that grand Cherokee kit is pretty slick
You know what boys? I'm not mad at this. I would personally never do this but it is very interesting and fun to watch. I am actually looking forward to the next episode. It's refreshing to see a unique build that's not another exotic car.
This is an awesome build. Can't wait to see how it evolves as it gets closer to completion! Adding a bedliner and suspension mods to enhance the bed load would be really cool to see.
Thats so freakin cool! Good that someone thought outside the box on that one and saved the car.....turning it into something freakin awesome! Also Jack looks like a crazy hard worker. You see everyone else taking breaks yet he is always around workin away. Great job everyone cant wait to see the finished result
I hope Jack is generously compensated for his efforts.
This was a very interesting transformation ... nice work 👍
Mike Smyth is a really cool guy. He first did a kit to convert rabbits and Jettas to Utes. He's a big plus to the DIY auto community.
13:10 is the epitome of what this and tavarish's channel have become, Jared and Jack working while he stands around and watches.
Jared’s face when he found out the plan was so heartwarming, knowing his buddies had his back
@Daryl Nicklen Good spot, unless he meant the collective 'we'
@Daryl Nicklen I'm pretty sure that was a collective "we"
these three guys are just a bunch of fakes
No they definitely did talk to him about it first because he talked about how they "obviously had not discussed this for over a month"
@@kevinmitchell6856 they are not.. because i know it…
It looks great! My only question is how do you get to the battery? Isn't it under the bed now?
The bed is removable
Tavarish, Jared and Jack are my favorite automotive CZcams team, is great to see you working together 👍👍👍 excellent build!
The mightycarmods shirt is awesome 😎. This "ute" is cool and the fact y'all did it so quickly is awesome too.
I hated (past tense) this project so much and now I love it. So cool. What a great use of that smashed car
This is such a wild build, and it's CRAZY that you got so much done in two days!
Jared, you are wise to install the rivets like that. That is the best way just like aircraft are put together.
Jared your isf made me jealous... this is a whole other level of "why the heck not" that actually looks mostly really good.... this is my favorite YT project ever! Wood slat bed liner??
The tree knew its end was coming anyhow, in its last attempt to leave behind something, it decided to crush Roadblock, because it knew the band of looneys owning it would never ever consider scrapping it, they would rather do something absolutely uniquely crazy. The tree deserves something, like I dont know, line the bed floor with its wood?
Awesome stuff as always guys. I just ordered the Technically Legal shirt with the discount code and a Shop Supervisor on Duty as well. I hope I am one of the first 1,000 orders so I can get a small piece of Roadblock. Loving the content.
Loving Jack with the mcm shirt - perfect for an ozzie style build 😎
I love how Jarrod is just like a kid on Christmas, and in the previous videos you can really see how much he truly cares about this vehicle, I felt so bad for him.
I'm glad y'all were able to bring it back and make into something even more special :-)
When you make a new design for roadblock it should say "Technically a Truck is the best kind of Truck"
Building a Ute without making any reference to Australia is indeed a questionable choice. X)
The unobservant making comments about references is a questionable choice. Check out Jack's shirt in the closing scene.
Ooooh Jared, you absolute happy son of a gun.
Roadblock is a Phoenix now, what a Be-UTE!
Mad Props to Dwayne the editor for trying out some new and different shots to spice up the footage. My one critique is the slow motion black and white "news-real" effect is very early 2000's discovery channel. Where my Aussies at? Would you consider this a real Ute? Jared and Jack are doing the work while Freddy buys another car. lol jk
With Jack wearing a Mighty Car Mods t-shirt you have got to put a Chopped sticker on the tailgate. They would be the perfect people to tell you how to say Ute properly too!
Smyth does awesome ute kits.
Tavarish has a really good judge of character. All of your crew and the people you feature could all legit have their own channel and they would be successful.
Jack is wearing a really cool shirt at the end!! 🤘 Those guys would find this very cool!!
I’m glad this is what you chose. I’m still looking for a VW jetta that I can turn into a truck
Get one crashed into the rear and then get one crashed into the front. Cheaper than a good one and you get extra parts. While i didn't do this for road purposes, so some corners were cut, i did this to get a range rover replacement for my brother's farm. Got away with it far cheaper than buying a new one and i lost a couple of beers to friends for help on the weekends until i got it done.
Don't put space saver tires on the rear axle (unless you want to have fun)
That looks freaking awesome. I have a genuine question, though. How do you get to the tops of the rear shocks when they need replaced? Just cut an access door?
access door is part of the kit the from the tire side
I love how one of the Australian commenters said on the first video "Turn it into a Ute!" So Kool that you're doing just that. Big thumbs up to our brothers down under.
Awesome Build glad you guy's saved the car.
just re-brand the shirt as a road block memorial shirt
Literally to the 1% who's reading this, God bless you, and may your dreams come true, stay safe and have a wonderful day
A charger from that generation as a ute works surprisingly well.
i'm excited to see how it ends up like
I’ve had 1000LBS in the bed of my Charger Ute. They are so versatile and draws a ton of attention. So glad you joined the family Jared
We are just getting started!
@@TheQuestionableGarage awesome!
Hey Jared this is cool and all and I've been giving you a thumbs up but when are you going to get back on Honda Rousey and Jetta Tornberg?
The "Vinny" pieces you threw on cracked me up. Great movie. Loving this new direction roadblock has gone.
Jack looks like the kind of guy who pays attention to detail normally - so this must have been a real challenge for him! Good work all round though - keep it going.
Jack building a ute in a MightyCarMods t-shirt. Completely appropiate 👌
I love how happy Jared is! Such a cool project.
I was waiting for this update! Really want to try to make one of these some day!! Great content Jared and rest of the team :)
in Sweden, making volvos into utes are quite popular. Especially 700-series up to the 900 series
I love that Jack is wearing a Mighty Car Mods shirt. VERY appropriate considering what you are building. Nod Nod. Wink Wink.
Really enjoyed this one Jared. The perfect fix for roadblock. Might handle like a unicycle under power though!
Cheers 🇨🇦
Look at Dwayne tying in the hammering with the music! Some good editing there!
When you’ve got rhythm, music, and a hammer, who could ask for anything more?! Thanks for noticing :). -Duane the Editor.
Solid win for the UTE and an extra 100 points for wearing a MightyCarMods T'shirt. 👍👍👍💖
Hello again Wrench Everyday
Guys, all I can say is, Wow. I can't wait to see it drive and completed. That's incredible!!!!!
Not the charger we wanted but definitely the one we need and it looks awesome!!! Great work guys!!! Keep it up and I can't wait to see it finished!!!
Full points for the MightyCarMods shirt Jack! And yes its UTE, this is a common term from the same place MightyCarMods is made.
This is one of the coolest things I've seen (automotively speaking) in a long time! It's the automotive equivalent of a mullet... Can't wait for the completion and the test drive! One question: Do they supply the back window?
It looks so much better than I thought in my head in the beginning good job guys!
