    The UTE or Coupe Utility came about in 1933 when an Australian farmers wife from Gippsland, Victoria wrote to Ford Australia and asked if they would design a vehicle that could take her to Church on Sunday and the pigs to market on Monday. Ford Australia liked the idea and handed the project to designer Lew Bandt. He removed the back of a coupe and formed a well back tray in its place. The new Ford UTE went into production in 1934 and the legend of the great Aussie UTE began. Your pronunciation of UTE is correct.

      starts life as a "movie car" and a police car, the best parts of both get merged to make a working car, but said car becomes a road block for a tree and safes several other cars, it then becomes a police car, movie car, ute.

    I would add a roll bar to this. There's barely any structure left in that rear (of the cabin). This would also serve to tie everything together with the right amount of tabs added to it. Can be retrofitted even if the car's done.

    • @WhiskyCardinalWes

      And the roll bar makes a good place for lights to live!!

    • @TheKiltedYaksman1
      @TheKiltedYaksman1 Před 2 lety +10

      Rather than sawing big holes into their freshly rived aluminum, in order to properly install a structural roll bar, I would probably go with some underbody stitch welding of the seams and subframe connectors. I might have also used some panel bond on the riveted parts, but that's water under the bridge...

    • @resistanceisfutile
      @resistanceisfutile Před 2 lety +17

      The location between the cab and the wheel wells isn't all that usable anyway, and adding a roll bar there would certainly add some structure that is missing. One possible place to triangulate a roll bar would be to tie into the tops of the rear shock mounts. While you're in there, you could also upgrade the shocks and if you add airbags inside the springs, it would make the ute's bed much more usable for hauling stuff. This would also be a good time to add a receiver hitch. What's a truck that can't tow?

    I have thought of doing this to a Dodge Magnum ever since we owned a 2005. I still think the coolest looking kit Smyth offers is for the New Beetle, but this is awesome. Can't wait to see the finished ute!

The tree deserves something, like I dont know, line the bed floor with its wood?

    Mad Props to Dwayne the editor for trying out some new and different shots to spice up the footage. My one critique is the slow motion black and white "news-real" effect is very early 2000's discovery channel. Where my Aussies at? Would you consider this a real Ute? Jared and Jack are doing the work while Freddy buys another car. lol jk

      Get one crashed into the rear and then get one crashed into the front. Cheaper than a good one and you get extra parts. While i didn't do this for road purposes, so some corners were cut, i did this to get a range rover replacement for my brother's farm. Got away with it far cheaper than buying a new one and i lost a couple of beers to friends for help on the weekends until i got it done.
