I am artist , and I regret going on anti-depressants,.....after years of drinking and smoking weed. My psych meds, totally fucked up my creative ways of thinking. I was offered anti-depressants when I was in college and I rejected them. By time I was 60, after years in talk therapy, I was told talk therapy was a dead exercise and to get relief I should take medications. Biggest mistake of my life. Anti-depressants, turned me into a zombie. I couldn't think or create, or even do a single thing. All my past & present memories were wiped clean. I lost my sense of humor and it took another 5 to 6 years to recover, and be able to remember my past & present. I was exceptionally creative on booze and weed. I made sculptures and exhibited and sold them. I won arts grants, and awards, I mounted many one person exhibitions. I taught art and even lectured. After being on psych meds, I immediately became a brain dead, uncreative person. I couldn't think, and my whole world was bleak and colorless. I was never a drunk,.....I did drink to relieve my anxieties. I never crashed my car, or lost a day of work.

"and my whole world was bleak and colorless.” And what was it like BEFORE the meds? Could not have been that great if you were self-medicating.

@@innervisions1828 It was fantastic on booze & weed! I was relaxed, it eliminated inhibitions, and allowed me to entertain people, with humorous dialog, theatrical behavior. I was outspoken, my shyness gone. I took calculated risks. I bought a motorcycle. I became a successful Artist. I could stand before a room full of strangers and lecture. No, my life was pretty great.

we saw him at the improv in early '80's and I still remember the night, never laughed that hard nor was more impressed by his new style.

I had the opportunity to spend a few minutes of one on one time with Richard and all I can say is that he is genuinely funny, very relatable, and razor sharp. I did not see much difference with him in person vs his stage act except he came off less cynical and jaded.

In 1990 my senior year of college at Rutgers University in Camden, New Jersey, a then relatively little known comedian performed in the student lounge, a large open area that accommodated around 200 people. The room was packed, because it was a FREE SHOW! Just after 8pm the room lights go down, the spotlight hits the low small stage, the crowd grows quiet, and a dark silhouetted figure approached from the adjacent hallway next to the wheelchair ramp where I was standing. As the quickly moving shadow drew closer I became aware of a strange sensation, a peculiar static energy. WTF is that?! The ominous entity brushed past me hustling to the spotlight, completely shrouded in black with a thick wild mane of equally black hair, and an unnatural electric current crackled in the air. Holy Shit! WTF is this?! It felt as if a powerful jolt of strange energy leapt from him into me; the huffing, heaving figure had infected me with its hysterical, maniacal intensity. Wow, that's fucking bizarre...
I don't remember any of the show, none of his jokes. All that stayed with me is that odd, extreme energy that is Richard Lewis' outrageous essence. He's kinda funny, too.

I saw that in '81 or so, and love it! So when he began appearing on Letterman, I was thrilled, especially at how he had altered and had become so out there. I had always been self-deprecating in regards to how I saw myself humoredly, so i totally embraced Lewis's stuff.

7/2023........What a character! .I'd seen him for years on TV talk shows. I love him on Larry David's "Curb Your Enthusiasm", which began in 2000. I didn't start watching it until 2010, and I have been able to catch up to the recent ones which would be year 2022. Not sure where they stand in 2023, though.

Ha!.......I inherited my mother's melon baller,.....with the wooden handle. It was from the 1940s. Her family owned a ( Jewish) deli. We ate deli food, even day of the week. After her Pop retired, we ate exclusively at another Jewish deli. We practically lived there. It is closing this month December, in 2023, after being in business for 67 years.

How tacky of the interviewer to give him the ultimatum: "Now be honest with me...", to which Richard Lewis
    nonconfrontationally responded:
    "Haven't I?"
There is no comic whose wit
I appreciate more than this gentleman's.
Continued success and long life to Mr. Richard Lewis, a man to be admired for all time.
