    GW need to release a “chapter master” model for home brew chapters. Have the model be very customizable. That way if you want your chapter to be melee focus, range, fast, etc. you can do it. Add a rule that you can’t field characters from other chapters with the model.

    Helbrecht and a squad of sword brethren with lieutenant is just so funny, because it's never a question of 'will they kill' but of 'will they get in'. Because if they do get in, whatever they are fighting will die. Very often has the squad by itself taken down huge targets before helbrecht even got the chance to swing, and equally as often has helbrecht cut down nearly an entire squad of space marines just by himself. Very satisfying to watch them blend a knight apart in one turn of combat, just have to be careful to make sure they actually make it to combat (they love the land raider).

    I've been running Adrax with a full Squad of Bladeguard and their Ancient! The full rerolls (when also targeting Oath target), with potential +1 to wound from the Crucible stratagem, and the OncePerGame +1 attack on everyone (Adrax included) is pretty brutal; and the whole squad having +1 OC while Adrax divides the opponent's by 2 is also very cool :)

    • @thelonewolf9866
      @thelonewolf9866 Před 3 měsíci +1

      I run the same combo but with a lieutenant (the Indomitus blade lieutenant). I like to attack the oath target and fish for lethal hits (when it makes sense) and then re-roll all wounds afterwards. Truly a brutal combo that even makes enemy armor quiver in fear. The fallback and shoot/charge is also handy for when the enemy tries to bog you down with distraction chaff units like a blob of Nurglings.

    Lieutenants are so underrated for making a shooty unit shootier (or a little more manoeuvrable if they get tied up in combat). I always field bricks of Sternguard led by Lieutenants, and one of them is always led by a Lieutenant with Fire Discipline (to make those sternguard bolt rifles lethal) and a Captain (to dish out a free strat each time). Hit them with Storm of Fire and Devastator Doctrine and they're murderous.

    I recently played a 1v1v1 as my first game back in months, against an experienced Votann and Necron player running really overpowered lists (3 C'tans on the board and alot of Hearthguard). I ran a Deathwatch Marine Rush list. 2 Watchmasters, Chaplain in Termie armor leading 10 termies to tie and distract the mid board. Then 5 squads of Deathwatch Vets, Sergeant and one Vet with shield for 4++, 4 Thunder Hammers, 2 Frag Cannons and 2 Infernus'. It worked pretty well even though it ended turn 2 since it was late, I wouldve been second (Votann player was going to be wiped out next turn and Necron wouldve been capping points). I already adjusted the list abit but even attaching a Watchmaster made the Vets movavble enough to shoot and charge and deal alot of attacks out on an enemy unit.

  • @thelonewolf9866
    @thelonewolf9866 Před 3 měsíci

    Gravis Captain with the adamantine mantle enhancement with 6 Aggressors is quite nasty in Firestorm. If the enemy targets you with high AP, damage 3+ attacks that would shred trough the Aggressors like paper, you can halve the damage thanks to the captains ability and then reduce it by 1. Anything that deals 4 damage or less is reduced to flat 1's against him. The captain can theoretically take 5 hits that would've killed 1 aggressor each, and stand with 1 wound remaining. Sure that makes him 100 pts, but 5 aggressors is 200 pts!

      I've written a non competitive Raven Guard list that has the exact same unit. Deep striking Reivers with bolt carbines with the Phobos LT's shoot and scoot ability just seems like a good combo at least if nothing else just to have an annoying shooting skirmisher unit.

      @@War_Hammered I did say annoying skirmisher unit, meaning it can deep strike, do a little shot with either bolt carbines or their -1 ap pistols, then move away, plus the LT gives them lethal hits. @War_Hammered Před 3 měsíci

      @captaincoolbreeze9429 yeah exactly. I hoping I can use them to Bully a unit. Hopefully nick an objective. And if its going really well. Score a couple of secondaries before my opponent redirects someone hard to go deal with them.

    • @captaincoolbreeze9429
      @captaincoolbreeze9429 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@War_Hammered That seems like a good strategy. Reivers do not have much of a punch in shooting and their special rule is hit or miss since it forces a battle shock test, but otherwise you have a fairly cheap harassment unit with space marine stats that will require your opponent to dedicate some decent shooting or melee to deal with that they would rather use on a bigger threat. Otherwise, if they don't deal with your Reiver Squad now you could score a secondary or snag a primary objective. If they do devote something to deal with the unit now you have an actual damage dealer to counter punch.

With Guilliman so you can get two Hit and Wound Re-roll oath of moment targets in a turn and it becomes something that's not going to win you every game but it's fun.

      The issue is when you've got combos like flamestorms 6d6+6 (30 average) strength five ap 1 damage 1 twin linked flamers with dev wounds for 2cp you can give for free with a gravis captain on a 6 man block of aggressors and that's only like 320 points Vs 12 damage 1 S4 attacks attacks for 160 outriders and (70 I think chaplain) 230 points isn't the best, 90 less points no ap, one less strength and understanding half the average attacks with no potential to spike higher. Listen I love bikes I've bought 9 outsiders since the codex came out but I have no intention of playing them right now as they are just THAT bad sadly 😊

    • @PhillipOnTakos
      @PhillipOnTakos Před 3 měsíci

      @@gutzyzz1302 That is a very good combo. I will not deny that but it requires a lot of investment. You need to play a specific detachment (It is one of the better ones true) it's a higher point investment and you can't use your free battle tactic on say Armour of Contempt to keep those slow moving aggressors alive and it locks you out of other Captains (Tacticus Captain with Infernus can do that job as well). Even with assault. It can be hard to move them up the board sometimes so if you need a transport, which means a Land Raider Redeemer that's is 260 points more points. Since a Repulsor doesn't have the transport space for 7 Gravis marines. That's over 500 points a quarter of your army for this super combo.
      Yes, Bikes aren't that good I'd never say to build around them. They are a good way to move up the board quickly score secondary points and with the dev wounds can do some damage. You can slap them onto the army for cheap cost and you don't feel like you've lost your linchpin when go down. I treat them as an annoyance to distract my opponent with while more important moves are made.

    • @gutzyzz1302
      @gutzyzz1302 Před 3 měsíci

      @@PhillipOnTakos it's actually a lower point investment, you have to think of the game as points per x, it might cost more linearly but per point it's astronomically more efficient, 90 about 45% more points for over 3x more average damage profiles. Also armour of contempt is a battle tactic , so you can always use that to move these up the board anyway? Not to mention we can take Uriel to deep strike them if we so wished which is 75 points so why on earth would you need a redeemer, when we can now deep strike AND then advance and shoot with the detachment rules. And locking out of other captains is so what? Immolation protocols on them again is simply more efficient and it's the highest cost stratagem by far, so you aren't losing out by using your one captain free stratagem there. Also I thought the discussion was simply about the bikes Vs alternatives in regards to twin linked, Dev wounds potential, which the bikes really aren't that good at (again I love bikes) but it's just the truth, and they aren't good IN ANY detachment as they simply don't really gain anything from any of them, (unfortunately). Even for scoring secondaries there are a few far cheaper alternatives that do that better, the holy god that is the scouts now even after the nerfs with guireilla tactics for the re-deploy, they havw infiltrate AND scout, so you can screen the enemies infilrators turn one, set up to score secondaries turn one and most importantly you can infiltrate and scout to get insane crazy move blocking on your opponents turn 1 , for 65 points a unit, shotguns for advanve and obj and if you get turn one even more move block potential. Plus there's the absurd callidus and ever sore assasins right now for 90 and 75 per, that do that better even for the pointsz and you can play those (and the scouts) ANY Detachment. I get what you're saying and for all intensive purposes play your bikes and can they score sure, can they do some fun twin linked dev wounds shenanigans, and if you love those models awesome dude but from a competitive standpoint they simply dont do ANYTHING better than other units can do for the points I'm afraid. I'm gunning to use 3 squads of them with an ATV (I've got the models already built and painted I love em) but they objectively just suck donkey balls.

      @@PhillipOnTakos oh also you can take Calgar for some absolutely absurd melee damage of his own, his guards with their invul make the unit insanely survivable AND take uriel for 75 on top of that and that's 490 so less than taking the redeemer and now they can deep strike , advance shoot and charge and fallback shoot charge and you've got cp generation to run immolation on them , 3cp per battle round and you can then also run a captain to use the battle tactic for free ELSEWHERE and depending on matchup in declare battle formations you can obviously flex where you attach Uriel and Calgar very flexibly and where you want the deep strike. And not only all of that the mellee is astromically better for the points.

    In my experience captains are way too expensive for what they do. A free strat is often not worth the bad combat profiles that need expensive enhancements makeing then even more expensive. Putting 2 characters in a unit is often a mistake. Chaplains are really bad in combat, ap-1 is often usless, the +1 to wound is nice but their second hability often does nothing. Librarians all the way. The protection vs psychic is surprisingly good vs a lot of factions I personaly play against, and their secondary habilities are awesome. Ancients could he half the points for their profile, lieutenants are fine, but can only join captains so I almost never use them.

This creates a really tanky unit that can hold the rear objective, with a significant gun platform in the Balistus buffed by the Iron Father. It’s quite a fun unit if you learn how to build around it.

    Honestly while I agree that the Apothecary on paper doesn’t bring much to the table as a Leader, his Ability in your Command Phase to revive a model from the Unit is very useful, especially in making Units such as Bladeguard or Hellblasters more durable. I strongly recommend pairing the Apothecary in a unit like Hellblasters or something dangerous alongside a Lieutenant for Lethal Hits or someone who can give benefits like Sustained Hits or Invuls. Azrael, for example, is perfect with an Apothecary and Hellblasters. Otherwise, love the content and love the commentary.

    Fun (and by fun I mean annoying) fact I learned the other day; any ability or enhancement thing that lets you flip a dice to a 6 counts as modifying the roll, so it does not trigger things such as Lethal or Sustained Hits or Devastating Wounds.
    So putting the Firestorm enhancement on, say, the Biologis in an Eradicator squad is significantly less valuable.

      The “unmodified” applies to “modifiers” such as a plus or minus

    I'm running a crusade, which totally side-sets anything "meta", as our crusade demands the use of less-used datasheets (though some have it more difficult to do so than others, unfortunately.. either by lack of choices or the player still over-optimizing their choices)..
    That said, the librarian is finally doing his part in the crusade. Being able to give 4+ invul to everything within 6", as well as getting a weapon upgrade is wild!
    I feel like a lot of the less-used leaders only works with better units or more investing (such as larger units) in most cases. Detachments also affects this..

    Dude, I'm getting burbt out from experiencing the exact same internal balance isues with my Necrons who have only 5 Detachments, when looking back it should have been 6 to represent the 6 main Dynasty playstyles...I'm sick of the contant rules changes and having 2 detachments that should have cool rules (Annihilation Legion and Obsience Phalanx), but wewre written so badly I'd rather stick to awakened dynasty. Then watch 3 really cool Epic Overlords get sent to legends, while watching Renaimtion get chipped away with each update to the point its just a flavor/lore rule.
    Evetyone should have a Quality Codexsuch as what the Orks got and I'm happy for them. In my case apparently GW didn't know what they were doing when they wrote Necrons and Dark Angels. Its disheartening. Id rather play new faction, but the ones Im interested in still only have thier Index detachment and if I chose the wrong army and watch a bunch of data sheets go away again I'm done...Its either Old World Fantasy or Kill Team or a non GW game like Marvel Crisis. Skirmish games seem really fun and they can play around under an hour or so. Id even consider Boarading Patrol, but GW appears to have all but dropped support for the 500 point version which they put several resources into with the tight quarters terrain.
