    In this episode I explore a massive abandoned high school in the United States with Edwin, which has a creepy vibe.
    The school closed because they moved to a more modern building. The school is abandoned for over a decade and it turns out to be a time capsule. Everything is left behind and there's no vandalism. Even the electricity is still working!

    I've not even seen this school at the Proper People channel. Amazing find! And not one tag or other vandalism! Love it! And I am always amazed of how well equipped American schools are. Instruments, iMacs, all kind of sports and work shops, kitchens, sometimes even hairdresser classrooms, library, auditorium, drama class, sometimes a swimming pool, labs... etc. When I think about the German schools I went to in the 90s... We still had books from the 60s for some classes, no computers, nothing, old equipment also from the 60s. Our school was basically a building with tables, chairs and black boards in it. That was it.

      This is a pain point for american schools-- we keep pumping more and more money into them, but the kids' performance doesn't seem to improve as a result. There are complicated reasons why this is, and why just throwing money at the problem is the wrong approach, but that's why american schools are so well-equipped.

      I went to an American school until I was 10, a particularly good one in a rich neighbourhood, and then I went to a middle school on a mountain in Portugal, the classrooms, tables and chairs looked like they were from the 60s or 70s, the only computers were in the library, and aside from a nice basketball court there were no specialized classrooms or anything specific to any subject, just rooms with tables and chairs and blackboards. This was in 2010. To be honest, if I had only gone to the nice American schools, I would probably be an insufferable ass, the hardcore experience in Portugal made me a better person, although the bullying required some therapy later on :P

    • @nelyay5186
      @nelyay5186 Před rokem +1

      Came here to say this!!! Those cabinets were UNlocked. All they needed to do was slide the thumb latch, hold, THEN pull handle. Locked cabinets have the key knob pushed IN when locked; they weren’t pushed in. Was hoping they’d show more investigative interest and problem-solving curiosity. Also thought “do they have ANY idea how many USA buildings were constructed with asbestos products, esp tiles?? And that asbestos is still imported to the US in 2022??“ It’s not supposed to be disturbed. As they were walking around so casually they were most certainly kicking up loosened asbestos particles and breathing them in. Probably doing so in every place they explore on this planet. If you guys end up with serious lung issues as you age you’ll know where it started.

    Once the roof goes on these structures it doesn't take long for the decay to set in. I suspect that the that the roof was already or close to being compromised when they closed the school in 2009. The municipality focused on the new school construction and not what to do old. You can see this in thousands of communities across the country.

    I would say what happened is the roof developed a leak sometime after the school shutdown. Most likely because of snow buildup melting and the water pooling in certain areas on the roof, or just because maintenance to the roof wasn't done after the school shutdown. Leak most likely happened in the room where the ceiling completely collapsed. Then all that water was in the building just evaporating then condensing repeating that cycle over and over again until the rest of the building was in the state it was in when they went in. Now the power being on, that would be because this building is still owned by whoever ran the school before, most likely the local town/city, and they would keep the power on to buildings they still own so that they can go in and periodically do maintenance, inspections etc..., in fact I bet until the water leak happened and the next time someone went in there, they actually still had one of the boilers still running to keep some heat in the place to keep pipes from freezing so that they could keep the fire suppression system powered up as well. However since the leak happened, they powered down the boilers, as there's most likely a hole in roof now and they'd be wasting energy trying to keep the place heated, completely drained the water lines and shut the main valve, and right now could be trying to decide whether to completely condemn the building, try to sell it as is, or if it's worth the cost to try and fix it up and sell it or repurpose it for another use.

    To be honest with you I have no clue how the american school system works but my understanding is there are public and private schools but both depend of donations. So I'm always suprised what will be left behind when a school changes its location. I mean you couldn't take everything with you but there is always at least one piano left behind. These are probaly not the best out there or had to be fixed in the first place but they're worth something for somebody at least. Or these books - There are obviously some that are not usefull for education cause they are out of date or so but even than someone would've find them interesting and pay for them. Or old computers like that iMac - Clearly someone would pay some dollars for that thing.
    What I'm trying to say is: Why aren't there clearance sales for this stuff? Wouldn't that free some founds to spend on new stuff you would need in the new building? What's the point of leaven these items to rott and ultimately throwing them into an dump alongside the rest of the building if someone would've bought them? Are there legal reasons or just a case of out of sight is out of mind? I don't get it.

      In the U.S. there exists three different types of schools: public, charter (semi-private) and private. Public schools do not receive any donations. They are strictly funded by tax payer dollars. Clubs at the public schools receive donations.

    O esporte dos tempos de Apocalipse. Emocionante em todo tempo de partida. Só fica melhor se além do eixo de lugar puder escoclher o quando.
    The sport at the Apocalipse's times. Exiting at all around the round. Just to be better, if also the area in space, it be possible go in the time line .....
    (The sport of the times of the Apocalypse. Exciting at all times of departure. It only gets better if, in addition to the place axis, you can choose when.)
