- Hey guys ! It's been a long time. Like I said in a previous post, there are several videos I would like have done before Wilds come out, this is the first one. I still want to do 2-4 other one-weapon videos (depending on my inspirations and successes for the amount of clips I get) and maybe some multi-weapons videos so stay tuned !

Counter Clutch claw was such a satisfying move to land in Iceborne, I hope they implement something similar in Wilds.
Expectations: This video.
Reality: Monster doesn't flinch and you get rolled on the floor when trying to trade blows.
That or, you get tired of trying to flinch, and you just mount as a last resort
lance bro don't trade blows. No need for that when more than half of our movesets can be chained into a block/counter

@@JohnDog-bb4nrpress r2 then circle, the guard comes out a lot faster than you would expect sometimes, even after a couple hundred hunts with lance the sheer speed the guard comes out with still saves and shocks me

The lance is and has been my favourite weapon for a reason. Thanks for this showcase, it doesn't always happen but those dunks are awesome.

I have said for over a decade that if you play Lance like a turtle, it will feel like fighting as a turtle. However if you play Lance like the boss music is for you, there are very few weapons that give you the same level of “holy shit I just did that”.

Man, Iceborne Lance has like only half of the moveset variety compared to Sunbreak Lance.
But the Offensive Guard sound effect + Clutch Claw counter are just so damn sexy.
And of course every Lancer's dream: blocking Fatalis' cone of fire to protect your teammate if they got caught out of position lol

I mean yeah?? Lance didnt have much variety in its moveset bc its kit is so simple so ofc if u have systems like switch skills and silkbinds its pretty easy to double that
It's not even the offensive moveset man, the defensive moveset of Lance in Sunbreak is much better than in Iceborne... Which IS Lance's strength imo.
Instant Guard, Shield Charge, Shield Bash, and Sheathing Retreat.
These moves complete Lance's kit.
Like, I have 1500 hunts on Lance in Iceborne and I'd still love to have Sunbreak Lance as the golden standard for Lance in future games.
Or at least give me the instant guard + cross slash counter.
Rise was overkill. Sure I guess some people liked using all those options, but to be frank, most of the extraneous stuff was useless, harmful or redundant.
It's really just style over substance.
Part of what made MH great was that it functions like Chess. Everything you can do at the end of the game is what you could do from the beginning, and styles emerged from all the options present within the base movesets.
Case in point, in the older titles, there were Lancers and Guncers who pretty much didn't use their shields unless absolutely necessary, instead opting to use I-frames. This was more of a Gunlance style, but a few Lancers did it too
@@TanegiHoneydew meh. Got over 12000 hours in the series altogether... I'd go with Gen Lance. Similar, but I like NOT being able to do absolutely everything. That makes it boring.

Though my favorite thing it the charging attack, it's so fun to travel with it lol.

But really tho, I used to not think much about Lance thinking its just block and poke and also slow AF but it recently became my crutch weapon. Something I use when I'm not confident with the monster or I just want an easy win. lmao
imo, lance flows the best here, in the 5th fleet world + iceborne.
the dodge shield guard alone does it for me, and with the punchy super guard just felt good.

@@Znetsixe ah. I still have to give Rise a go. Still on MHGU straight from MHWorld, and the ‘Style’ mechanics separated the moves into sets that I dont like the combination of. If they could let us pick and choose the move-sets to go out with, that wouldve been cool

Great advertisement for the lance. Everyone rates it average at best (if not low) on their weapon tier lists. I was considering it before seeing those ratings. Maybe I should re-consider.

I have like 2.5k hours in this game and main a lot of weapons including Lance, but I never thought even once about doing backwards block, that's just awesome..
Definitely one of my favourite rhythm game of all time.
For real tho I freaking love WorldBorne's counter heavy Lance playstyle. Only if they tune up the counter motion value a bit then it'd be perfect.

It can be chained if the monster triggers the counter and the lance successfully hits the monster

I'm gonna have to farm as much level 4 decorations as I can, because clearly my poor showing against Barioth is a combination of that and skill issue.
If you told me when I started Monster Hunter World that I would play the Lance I don’t think I would’ve believed you. But here we are, and it’s probably my most used weapon between all the Monster Hunters I’ve tried since then. The consistent damage, insane guards, ability to always stay on the monster, the counters, the charges, the mounts… this weapon is such a sleeper you wouldn’t think it could all these things, but it can. I can’t wait to see what insane thing we Lance mains get next…
Iceborne lance is the best iteration of the weapon, it is truly perfect.
i have like 1500 hour on this game, played all the weapons expect that one, because i was thinking it's similar to the gunlance without any explosion on it (played a lot of gl back in the day so im tired a lil bit) and a friend send me this video and it blow my mind like "wtf we can jump with it, damn we can guard counter etc ..." lol for me it was just shield block and horizontale hit, btw very very nice video man

I yearn for this level of mastery. Rise was where I first really started to use lance, and I've been hooked. This video encapsulates why I play lance - *you* dictate the pace. Your shield is the greatest wall you can have, and it makes *you* an unstoppable force. It's simple, not as initially flashy or as damaging as other weapons can be. But it is consistent, it is reliable, and if you use it well, it will keep you alive and the monster dead.

Power guarding from the looks of it
Power Guard is special in that it allows you to block attacks from 360 degrees, and it does not reduce health or stamina. Think of it as absolute defense.
Engaging it will drain your stamina very quickly, so you need to be on point with your timing (nowhere near as severe as Guard Pointing on CB or GL though). If that seems scary, the deal is initiating the move depletes your stamina until you run out or block a hit. When a hit is blocked, your stamina FREEZES. That's why we use it to block big multihits, 95% of which will be sustained breath attacks.
If you have a low Guard skill to allow for pushback you can do this sort of thing, whereas for blocking huge sustained hits from something like Fatalis or Teostra's big flamethrowers, Guard 5 can lock you in place.

@@Virjunior01 I dunno if you summarized things for the sake of simplicity, but your comment has several things wrong:
Power Guard actually increases the chip damage you receive from attacks (10% to be exact), and in extreme cases, you can die due to the heavy amount of damage dealt by each hit, or by the extreme hit's chip damage .
Like at 0:45, if your Divine Blessing doesn't activate, you have low defenses/Fire Res, or you already have some damage dealt to you, you WILL die, and will probably do .
What it actually decreases is the amount of stamina drained from attacks after the "grace" period of stamina depletion (which lasts a couple of hits.)
For those extreme cases. it's much better to use regular guard, or not guard at all, as you may both get your guard broken AND a heavy hit, regardless of your Guard 5, AND if you manage to survive, you will be left with so little stamina, that any follow up will send you flying, which is pretty common with monsters like Fatalis.
It is *NOT* the absolute defense by any stretch (I know you said "think of it", but it is very misleading), and it should be used wisely. The only weapons that actually have the ultimate defense are the Charge Blade (Guard Point), and the HBG, which has a much better shield system, blocks automatically, and deals MUUUUUUUUUCH more damage.
As a Lance main, I can tell to the ones reading this. Be sure of what you are doing, and never trust the defensive capabilities of the Lance, because even when advertised as a defensive weapon, it is by far the worst in its role.
Now, about the knockback thing, yes, that is correct, and looks cool, but don't do it, there is a high chance a subsequent follow up will kill you or at least break your guard.

When I try Lance it feels clunky, but this looks glorious. I need to give it another shot lol
You just gotta get used to all your movement options, like direction hops while guarding into leaping stabs or shield bashes, and getting comfortable with the charge.
The Teostra part displays this well, with the backwards guard hops into forward leaping thrusts

My hunt with Alatreon and Fatalis wasnt the best on Tri and 4. But defeating it with my Lance felt like a pride of knight who came to rescued a kingdom. 😊
I honestly love the aesthetic of the lance and what it represents, an immovable force that know no direction but forward. That being said my monkey brain wants something a bit more flashy and diverse.
The lance is the favored dragon slaying weapon in medieval and renaissance artwork.
I would say you change my mind about Lance 🫡 is just that I can’t with the poking stick mechanic 🤣 I believe it needs some more flavor on that side, but 🔥 I never seen all the actual defensive skill on action specially not like this 🤯, the hint must really be fun having always face to face. A master of Lance 👏

The biggest issue I have with the lance in MHW is that without mind's eye, most of the lances at the lower tiers and ranks often bounce off the monster's hide. sure, I can try to pin point a softer area- but the monsters move around so much, aiming for a soft area becomes impossible when they start flailing their armored arms and tails around.
Are we getting a mhw bow vid soon? Your videos got me back into world for my second play through before wilds come out. Best franchise of all time
