They are the best hands down in bad weather. Our 2015 went in 17” of snow. I have a 2021 Crosstrek now and the wife has a 2022 Outback. Bring on the snow.
Dang, that is some impressive capability. I purchased a 2023 Crosstrek Limited two weeks ago to serve as a city runabout and snow chaser. Looks like I made a good choice. :)
You’ve right choice. I’ve owned the first generation and second generation. Great vehicle. Unfortunately it’s just too small for my family.

I love my 2024 crosstrek so much, had a 2009 camry that felt like a death trap in the snow, now I have one where I feel safe and can take that head on.

That is awesome! Thank you for the video. I took my Subaru for its first big snow run. There was about 14 in on top of the mountain. Luckily, the plows hadn't made it through there all the way yet. It was an amazing experience. A slice through the snow like butter even on all season tires. Everyone wants to knock on the all season tires, but they performed extremely well. I can't even imagine what winter tires would do.

I have the Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail tires on my crosstrek and they eat the snow up and offer additional offroad grip without making too many on road sacrifices. I lost about 3mpg when I put them on. No road noise, and seem to be just fine on wet pavement.
@@Ceranik wildpeak AT trail are great. I have them on my Impreza and I even put them on our Honda odyssey. Took the minivan over a mountain range in a snow storm and kept up with the 4x4s. Drive uphill past all the people stopped to chain up!
I have Yokohama Geolandar AT on my Jeep, also good in snow

Looks like my rig. Same color Crosstrek with R5 SUVs. Awesome tires. I have not challenged mine as much, though I did have a 30 mile drive home on unplowed country roads with about 10in of wet snow. No problem.
Sometimes it’s not about to challenge them, but how the road ages will challenge you with a surprise ;)
I've been driving a 2021 Subaru Forester with Bridgestone Blizzak tires. It does amazingly well Yesterday I was driving for miles on a frozen lake covered in about 6-8 inches of hard snow. I'll mention I'm an outdoor adventure guy living in South Dakota. I've been stuck in the Forester only once (2-foot deep drift 30 feet long). Since I'm almost always more than a mile or even five from help I carry with me: 2 snow shovels, 75 ft. tow line, four 40 inch traction boards, and four "cable" chains. You can't be stupid when it's 20 below.

Yes I tested my 2003 outback like this and it did as well or maybe better in deeper snow. I had a 2016 legacy 3.6r and now have a 2021 legacy touring XT and love love love the ride on Ohio roads, smooth as silk.

Got my 22 Outback limited this past April. It's currently the end of January,.2023 and not a flake of snow has fallen on NYC. I'm a tad disappointed I haven't had the opportunity to put the young fella through the paces yet.

And some people wonder why there are still so many Subaru customers! I've driven a Crosstrek around in some seriously rocky mountain dirt roads and treacherous conditions, and the AWD system always gives confidence. If you can do all of that snow driving in a Crosstrek...imagine what the Outback XT or Wilderness could do.

My older crosstrek is great in snow too. 2016. 1 inch lift, sparco wheels Bfgko at tires. Beast in snow and back country dirt /mud roads
with the lift, it must be even more impressive!
@@CarQuestion yep, except this year no snow 😔. Was going to go bigger with the lift but heard more problems occur later with suspension with lifts so wanted to keep lift to a minimum. Looking forward to the 2024 redesign which is already out in japan for 2023. Hyper blue (my color 2016) is back for 2024!

we've only had 1 decent snow in the 8 years i've owned my outback. i took it back through my property and did the same thing but with factory all season. it is an amazing little car and goes places i would never take my f250.

Driving subie’s for 20 years now , I live in the north east , best snow cars ever. There symmetrical all wheel drive system is impressive even on ice covered interstate 95 .

This is why I own a 2013 Subaru Outback , and the only reason I want to trade it in is to get the latest technology, it still runs pretty much like the day I bought it new. ( Thanks for posting, and I believe what you have shown us, because my Subaru has done it )

Yeah I have a 2016. Even stock tires great in snow, although now I have bfgko at tires with 1 inch lift. Even better
The result in the demonstration is actually the biggest contribution from the tires

I had my fun in my 2019 civic hatchback but my 2020 crosstrek is way more fun on dirt roads and the snow. Been having a mild winter in Chicago so I'm holding off till next season for winter tires.

If there are no boulders there in the summer time. Why would one suddenly appear in the winter? Have you ever tried to move a boulder?
Aftermarket skids, rockers, and steel bumpers are available for 2nd-gen Crosstreks.
Is this with the CVT or do you have a MT? I have a 2016 forester, but it’s only premium so no X mode or any of that. It does well, but haven’t been off road.

Nice video. Tires make a big difference in driving in bad weather and off road. Off course you need a good awd system. I am surprised to not see that many videos of people showing the strengths of the subaru ascent just like this video. Is it because it is not a good subaru suv? Or is it because people buy more outback, forester and crosstrek than subaru ascent? I wonder if Subaru ascent owners are less adventurous than the rest? Just wondering

@@CarQuestion We had a freak snow storm around Christmas, twice. Vancouver doesn't have a lot of money or resources dedicated to snow removal so it was a disaster. My winter beater is a Volvo S70 with Gislaved winter tires so I felt like a rally driver lol
only way people would believe is with video, the places my 2020 wrx has gone to that only trucks were at was fun. so many people surprised and laughing seeing a car go up it :D.
