Among a shell-shocked, grieving & starving populace (almost all of whom lost loved ones during WWI), Hitler presented himself as a determined & resolute veteran (with 2 Iron Crosses on his chest), while he presented a roadmap of a new, strong & RESPECTED Germany….And for a middle class that was terrified of Bolshevism, Hitler represented a bulwark against a “Red” takeover… All done with Hitler’s innate sense of drama & high style….
The wonder isn’t that Hitler became German leader-but that it took him so long to do so….
