Everything You Need to Know to Make Spoon Rings Like A Pro
Technically yes if you want to get into the semantics of it it's not technically pure silver. What I mean is that is sold sterling silver. I'm just trying to get the point across that it is solid and not plated or filled. 😅👍
How about the calibrating tool info? Thanks for sharing your craftsmanship!
What do you mean?
This is a very detailed and interesting video. Thanks!
Love the video! I am not finding the link for your file. Could you share that?
Walking through a craft fair, my wife commented positively about these rings. My tinker brain said I can do this. Her birthday was coming up so perfect. I got a small dessert spoon (925 sterling silver), cut it, and slowly hammered it into shape. Beautifully polished, gave it to my wife and I was the talk of her social circle. Fast forward 10 months and we are hosting a group of friends for dinner. My kids are setting the table and one of them tells my wife that we were short one small spoon. She immediately made the connection and boy did I get an earful. To make matters worst, that silverware pattern had been discontinued for decades and can’t find a replacement. My wife bought a super cheap plastic set that she uses for my table setting when we are hosting as my penance. To this day, whenever silverware is involved, I am the talk of her social circle. Great video but make sure you don’t use your wife’s good silverware.
Lol well yeah that wasn't a good idea to use something that was her's without asking about it. I've told people in the past that brought up their grandparents or parents have a ton of this kind of silverware and I tell them not to use it without asking them or go by some just for this. 👍
You can put a video of the piece and maybe you can find a replacement! Also there is a place in Wisconsin that has replacement for most silver sets. Good luck!!
@@GomeowCreations LOL well I would argue that it was probably a wedding gift, which would make it both of theirs. But 😖😂 maybe still ask her first.
Hahahaha loved the story!!
You had a great idea, and your wife sounds like a grump with a grudge to continue to make you use plastic. Good luck with finding a replacement piece.
I'd like to see more of your videos. You don't waste time with small talk and get right to the point. Thank You!
I've really been trying to do that as of late a lot of my older videos kind of drag on unfortunately.
This takes me back to the 70's so many of us had spoon rings. Thank you for sharing. Happy times
Me too. It was a big thing for a while.
I still wear the spoon thumb ring.
Although I won't be able to pursue ring-making, your video is an absolute delight. It is so very interesting and you are an excellent teacher. Thank you for your time and effort sharing this.
Oh yes!!! I need another craft project like I need a hole in my head.
That said, it was an absolute delight watching this video - concise, clear, great visuals and I even understood the math; so I had to subscribe.
Keep up the amazing tutorials.
Well thank you 😁 and welcome to the channel.
This explanation was very well done! Honestly, its more work than I had imagined. Cool finish effects, I never knew! Thanks!😀
I love spoon rings! They were very popular in the 70’s, and have made a come back. My son gave me several pieces of old silverware years ago, and some would make really pretty rings. I did get a civil war era fork that is so cool, but I won’t be using it. Lol
You are a really good teacher! Very thorough! I would like to see some more of your work. I am just now getting into jewelery making / metalsmithing. Thanks again!
Omg I wore a spoon ring all through high school, until I lost it one day, when I took it off to do dishes. Good memories!😇🙏
I love this! Thank you for posting a video for people like me who have no idea where to start.
No problem at all 😁👍
I'm just getting into armature ring making as a hobby and this video is amazingly helpful and enjoyable to watch. Thank you so much!
😁👍
I've just started in metalwork and your videos are really helpful. Thank you!
Wow! What an incredible teacher and speaker. The way you walk everyone through this is so well done. Not sure that I will get into this but it sure is fascinating. Thank you very much.
Happy to help 😁
Love this ❤❤! Didn't know a ring bender existed, always did it by hand with heat, hammer and mandrel. Sure cuts the time in half & definitely better tool to use living in apartments that would seriously frown on fire use. Gonna have to check out your other videos, thx again for sharing!
No problem and I'm happy to help. Of you have any questions feel free to ask.
Thank you for step by step. I've always loved spoon and fork rings!
Man all of your videos are amazing. Very detailed and informative, most importantly NOT in a boring way. Keep up the good work.
Well thank you very much 😁👍
Jesus, i just love tools...everytime a i see something new in any domain, i fall in love and i need to buy it :))
I have a ring bending tool like yours but have not used it yet. Thanks for the tutorial. Now I can go forward an give it a go.

Extremely knowledgeable and easy to follow. Thank you for this tutorial. Best ever !

Wow! This is an EXCELLENT video! Very informative. You gave a lot of mass to the use of the Ring Bender.
I would love to see how you do a sterling silver piece! I just found your channel and I love it 🥰
Really great video for beginners...thank you for showing us the steps your a great teacher and artist.....
This video is great! I've been wanting to get into making rings from cutlery for a while but didn't know where to start. Thank you :)
Good video. I feel like we’re pretty similar in skill. I have a studio at home too. If you wanna connect, let me know.
As for the patina rainbow color, it’ll turn dark over time just like leaving it in the LoS for for longer . You have to spray it with a clear coating to keep the air from further oxidizing it. It’s similar to flame coloring but most jewelers dont want to apply a clear coat because it changes the feel of the metal.
BRILLIANT..I'm so happy to have found you!
Thanks 😁👍
Thanks for introducing us to sulphur. Love the transformation of my rings!
Love the rainbow finish!
Very useful! A good video to learn from. Thanks for making and sharing. 😎👍🏾
This is so useful! Thank you for taking the time to explain in so much detail. 😊
No problem ☺️👍
Thank you... You have no idea on how much I needed this....I hope I shine with grace..hugs
😁👍
Ty for posting such an amazing video. I am glad to see that there’s teachers out there that aren’t taking advantage of everybody as far as buy this buy that and I’ll show you. That’s awesome of you. I’ve been making jewelry for almost 17 years and never thought about doing jewelry out of silver. I have a huge box of solid silver silverware that was left to me by my grandmother. I’m not sure if I want to sell the box or make rings or earrings out of them!?!! But I’m very glad to come across this video because it shows me the markings that I needed to look for on my silverware or if when I’m going to the flea markets or goodwill stores. I know you’ve posted this video over a year ago it came up on my feed, and I’m now a fan and a sub! BTW, your voice makes it easy to follow and as thorough as you can make it! Definitely going to check out more of your videos and also comment on them. I’ve clicked like I don’t know how anybody else could’ve clicked dislike on this. That’s outrageous peace be with you and happy holidays. !😊🫶🏻🫶🏻
Loved this video! Super informative and I learned so much. Thank you. Can you do one on how to make spoon bracelets. Please 😄
Thank you for this video- I love the details on testing and which measurements are going to work best!
😊👍
Im a newbie in making jewlery and i have learned a ton watching your video's! Thanks a lot! Your video's are the best!
Well I'm happy to hear that it was helpful for you 😁👍
Yes I would love to see what you do with the solid silver utensils and I'd like to see how the rainbow effect does on a solid silver
Loved this! Thank you for sharing your knowledge 💗
😊👍 no problem
Excellent & informative video!! Your great teacher & I love that it’s ALL informative thank you!
Thank you! I had so many questions after the previous quickie!
No problem 😁👍
Brilliant! Thank you so much for sharing this. Love it x
😁
Wow I wish I found you before, I purchased my spoons thank you for teaching me
Thank a million. Great video and very informative.
great videos! i'm excited about doing this -- thank you so much
Love this, yes need to see the Sterling video please! Thanks!
I use stainless steel, much harder to work with but once finished look absolutely bad ass. But it is definitely a lot harder, but you have more choices if you can't find silver. And annealing it the taking wool adds such a beautiful patena. I highly recommend if you have the Patience because it is hard But well worth it in the end result. And very durable
Charity shops (thrift stores) great source...
So you have to anneal it first if you use stainless steel?
@@caillou7135 Yeah, I have learned so much since that post and you are absolutely correct. Lol! I beat the snot out of my self doing it too lol! Tough lesson, and it was so heavy stainless steel took me like 2 hours lol!! I've made quite a bit of head way since then. Thank you for your response, wish someone would had something a little sooner but better late then never lol!
@@gra-kpop true but most are hip to sterling silver. When a spoon sells for $25 on eBay why discount it in your store? Bettter spoon rings on eBay go for $10. Not handmade sure, but they look the same.
My daughter is just getting into jewelry crafting. She has actually sold a few dozen pieces online and to friends.
For Christmas I bought her quite a few tools. Tapping block set, ring pliers, a polished block anvil and assorted hammers, eyelet forming pliers and about 500 assorted Drexel/die grinder and polishing bits.
The ring bender is very nice. I might buy her one if I knew where to get one.
What brand/manufacturer makes them?
😄OOPS.... Just spotted the link you posted. THANK YOU!
Great video 👍👍👍👍
If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
It is fascinating to see jewellery making. I love it.
😁
Very informative and helpful! Thanks so much!!!
Thank you for all the details/expert advice
No problem
Absolutely. I'd love to see more.
Wow amazing,,beautiful 👏 😍 😳 👌 🙌 thank you for sharing 😀
I never thought of doing something like this, I have a huge dessert spoon and fork that belonged to my family but I'll never actually use. My cutlery is a bit big to turn into a ring but this is such a good idea for sentimental or mismatched silverware
The algorithm has been hitting me hard this week lol that said, I thoroughly enjoyed this. Thank you 😊
How so and thank you 😁👍
What an absolutely awesome video. Thank you for sharing. 🙋🏻♀️
😊👍
Wonderful instruction, not too much inane chatter. Three thumbs up! Now, I'd like to see the silver rings. Thank you. Cynthia
Great info lots of silver I’ve dug I will attempt to make a ring
Very well done video. Kind thanks for going to the trouble to show how it's done. I learned that everything I thought I knew about making spoon rings was wrong. Instant LIKE and SUBSCRIBE!! Greetings from Alaska.
Well thank you very much for that kind words and I'm happy to be helpful 😊👍
Beautiful workmanship
Thank you 😊
Thank you so much for walking through the details.
No problem 😁
This is great! Thank you!!
New respect for the process.
That was very interesting. I always wanted to do this. Thank you.
No problem 😊👍 happy to help
Lovely tutorial, very rich content, many thanks, Randy!
One way to dispose of Liver of Sulphur - let it sit open air till it turns white, then pour it on your tomatoes. They love sulphur minerals. Once it is white, it becomes inert.
Bet those rainbow rings would look cool if you polished up only the raised pattern and left the rainbow effect on the rest of the ring. Very lovely finish!
This video is great. Thank you!!!
😁👍
Great video in every possible way. And now I really do understand Liver of Sulphur.
😁👍
I saw someone use sockets (for fixing your car) to shape rings around. Thanks for these tips, I've had a fork sitting on my work table for years crying out to me to turn it into a ring
What an excellent video! I love spoon jewelry and have a few pieces from an artist from providence RI
Omg I love them 😍🙏🏻
i love this you have made it look easy and interesting as to try and do thanks for being so thoroughal
Thanks and yeah I do try to make thing as simple to understand as possible
@@GomeowCreations you have is the tools you are using can it be purchase anywhere and also is it costly that tool you use to shape the utensil into a ring thanks
Enjoyed very much. Love to see more.
Really enjoyed watching.
Love this method! I will try it, I only need a rawhide mallet. I will post when I do!
Wow, this is great. Thank you, am going to give this a go soon.
Thanks and let me know out it turns out 😁👍
Excellent video! I’m new to this and have been doing it the hard way and can see how much easier it is when you invest in the proper equipment . Thank you!
Yeah using the right tools does make a job a lot easier. 😁👍
Thanks. Great video!
Your channel is amazing man! You deserve more recognition
Well thanks 😁👍
I still have my father's silver fork ring he had when he was a kid he made. It's bulky but great ring. Definitely would leave a mark on someone's forehead lol
❤
I enjoyed every bit of it.
Love this tutorial
What a lovely day informative videoThank you
This tutorial was very useful!! Great work
😁
Love it!! Going to try👍
I much learn on this video,
Thank you :)
Thanks, great, great tutorial! I made 5 rings for the first. Cut the right sizes, but not the the right sizes when done😄
Awsome, very interesting video! I'll NEVER make any of these rings, but it was a very entertaining video to watch! 🤯👍😍
Well thanks for watching 😁👍
That is amazing I love it so much ❤😮
Very informative for a newbie like me
You are the best ❤
This takes me back to middle school and high school.
I had a box of silver silverware given to me from an estate sale it's pretty thin but it says sterling on it. Some of these handles are super long too!! I'm gonna try this it's the perfect project to get me back in my studio!! Thank you for sharing this ♥️ you always give clear instructions too ty
Had?
You are blessed. ❤️
Awesome video, thanks for sharing ⭐️
😁
Thanks for sharing your talent. I appreciate it very much! KANSAS
really cool video. Thank you for sharing
Thank-you for sharing!
No problem
Awesome video as always!! There is also a tool you can buy for about $80 that attaches to a 1 ton arbor press to bend the silverware rings. It works really good too and then you can also use the arbor press (without ring bending attachment) for stamping!! 😁 LOVE THE 🌈!!!! 💖
Oh cool can you send me a link to said item?
The Pepe bender is far superior to the arbor press gadget
@@EaselCat I agree, but if your on a budget it works
I like to buy my own birthday gifts, and was going to buy a ring bender. Unfortunately some reviews said they aren’t good for spoon bending, so I opted for a handheld ring bender, and some tools to go with it. If I end up really taking an interest in this I guess I’ll get a ring bender later.
