    Great clear instructions. I think this video along with paperback method has saved my smashed plate table from disaster…I hope.

    I'm really enjoying all your mosaics videos!
    I have always been interested in mosaics. A few weeks ago, my wife and I saw a collection of artifacts from Pompeii including a few mosaics. That collection has got us both interested in experimenting with making our own mosaics. Since then, we have been running around the internet looking for instructional content on how to make them. Compared to most of the mosaic making videos on CZcams, you are more articulate and your videos better produced than the rest.

      Many thanks and I'm glad you've been inspired by the ancients. A great place to start!

    Thanks for that. Great mosaic tips, I am about to try out this paper bag reversed method :)

    Hello Helen, I really like this reverse technique because there is always slight variations in my tiles and I prefer a very flat finish for trays etc. I have two questions: Would wallpaper paste work as well? and have you heard about your recipe but also adding honey? Thanks.

    • @HelenMilesMosaics
      @HelenMilesMosaics  Před 2 lety

      I believe that wallpaper paste would work but I would do a little trail first to make sure that it comes away easily when it is time to peel it off. Yes, I have vaguely heard of a recipe with honey but have never used it myself.

    Helen great video thanks. Can I do mosaic over paper mache?

    • @HelenMilesMosaics
      @HelenMilesMosaics  Před rokem

      No, I wouldnt mosaic over papier mache because the substrate will be too soft and would absorb the moisture from the grout or tile adhesive and go all soggy. I hope I didn't send this too late to prevent that!

    Helen great video. However since I have just started to mosaic with coloured ceramic tiles where the back of the tiles i.e. the ridged side are all white, how should I go about it? I mean how to know that I haven't gone wrong with the colour/shading? Please guide 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

    • @HelenMilesMosaics
      @HelenMilesMosaics  Před 2 lety

      Unfortunately it's not possible to use the reverse method with tiles that don't have the colour going all the way through because, as you say, you would effectively be working blind as far as the colours and shading go. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

      @@HelenMilesMosaics no bad news just a little learning. Am catching up with all your videos Helen and love the way you explain. Take care and keep posting 🙂

    Can you use any kind of paper for this method or does it have to be a particular type of "brown paper"? I'm curious because I wonder if I could mosaic with this paste over a colored image on a common xerox copy of paper and then transfer to my substrate.

    • @HelenMilesMosaics
      @HelenMilesMosaics  Před 6 měsíci +1

      You need to use brown Kraft paper (yes, with a K) which is 60-80gsm (also called postal paper). The xerox paper wouldnt be strong enough to hold the mosaic as there is water in the glue and ordinary paper would easily rip.

      That makes total sense. Thank you so much!!!

      You could try putting clear packing tape on the back side. It would be more difficult to wet the back to make corrections....@@ingriddean5333
