Thanks for the video. I will be getting an IDP to drive a motor scooter in Taiwan. I usually walked to some of the parks near my condo in Zhong He but that can be time consuming. Hopefully taking a scooter I can reach more of the parks.

Hey Luke,,, thanks for sharing this episode as it is very informative... As a DoD contractor out in the Mid-East and a frequent flier to the Philippines and other countries having a IDP (International Drivers Permit) to drive legally is worth having in your possession together with your valid US drivers license...

Hello I have a question. I come from Italy 🇮🇹 and I have Italian drive license. now I have the green card and I’m living in USA… my question is, if I have international drivers permit, can I get an American drive license, without make a driver test ? Then they give me an American drive license. Or for get an American drive license,I have to make a test ? Thanks
I believe you can. You should double check with the proper authorities. However, if the license is not in English then you would need an IDP from Italy. I believe this will only work for a while. Eventually you should just go to a local DMV and find out what they need to issue you a DL.

You should be fine. Of course, make sure you research it beyond here. You would still need to have your license with you as well.

As far as I understand, one would need a driver’s license already to obtain an IDP.

If you don't want to go to AAA yourself, or if you are already overseas and need one, you can use a courier service like www.idpgo.com. You can apply completely online and they will process is for you and ship it to you.

Gunner Stewart I did, it was really simple. I just emailed a picture of my signed application, front and back of my license, and took my own passport photo using the app they recommend. My IDP came 3 days later.

Gunner Stewart it was an official IDP, stamped by AAA. This is a company that goes to AAA for you, not one that sells you a fake document

As long as you’re 18 and have a valid driver’s license, then you’re good to apply.
