天龙八部 （天龍八部), often translated as "The Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils", is a wuxia novel by Jin Yong (Mandarin) or Gum Yoong (Cantonese). It's odd title is referring to the eight Buddhist races and highlights the key themes explored in the novel. If I recall correctly, the original story was told through multiple plot lines and from the perspectives of different characters. This music is
inspired by the chapter of Duan, Yu, who was raised as a Buddhist in a wealthy family, and thus, he found violence and killing repulsive (initially). A part of the story centers on Duan, Yu's growth as he went on his adventure, and after he experienced the romance and bloodiness of the jianghu universe, as well as the various ethnic conflicts in the fictional retold of the Northern Song dynasty.

Duan Yu was actually a Prince (as written in the title) of the Dali Kingdom, which is a kingdom that existed at the same time as the Song Dynasty of China. The character is fictional, but the Kingdom did exist.

the 3 guys are dressed as 3 characters from the novel "Demi Gods and Semi Devils" which is also the title of the video, it's a Wuxia story based in Northern Song dynasty around 1000 AD
the flute guy is the prince of Dali, the Drum guy is the Leader of Beggar clan, the Monk is a junior Shaolin Monk, they are the 3 protagonists in the novel.

@@MeiinUK It is fictional. But it is a famous Wuxia novel classic collection. Wuxia means ancient martial arts. It is kinda like the Marvel of Ancient Chinese. But it is a modern classic and not written in ancient times.

《难念的经》当中有句词“拈花把酒偏折煞世人情狂”，而段誉是被“情”折煞最多，伤的最深的人，此曲山开场高水长，悠远婉转，把“无情流水多情客,劝我如曾识”的段公子表现得淋漓尽致，而3:20处的曲风突变，把意境变为命运多舛的宿命既视感。
天龙八部本就是史诗级的古希腊式悲剧，论悲剧，以萧峰为最，没有人比萧峰更悲壮惨烈，但论被命运戏弄，必然以段誉为最，该曲契合了段誉被命运率开玩笑的宿命感，可谓上乘之作，大爱！🙏♥
林夕的詞，天下無雙。不過在大陸成禁詞了。可惜！

开头听到竹笛的声音时还稍有些不解，因为感觉段誉更适合用弦乐器来表现他的优柔细腻，竹笛过于空明端正。但是后来竹笛再次进来的时候就瞬间明白了，是我自己把段誉给标签化了，弱化了他侠义洒脱的一面～感谢自得琴社的大大们！

this music describes a prince in a Chinese novel, kind of like a character in games of thrones, for example, as handsome as king Joffrey, deep in love with a girl like dragon mother, mastering a invisible sword which like the sword in star wars but just invisible and come from his finger tips, he is not interested in iron throne and create a deep bond with his two friends who also are heroes.

The name 'Dali' takes me back to when I was sitting on the top of some random hostel in Dali city, looking up at the snow-covered mountains, stoned out of my head from the 'hash', 90% of which was questionable, that some local older woman with broken English sold to me. That was back in 2006; I'm sure things there have changed now
