      @@TimeTeamOfficial on the objects featured in the 1st segment. I don't know just how big they are but they remind me something American Metal Detectorists find on almost every od Homesite. Thimbles. Yes. Thimbles. Seems just about everyone had to be able to sew. And they lost their Thimbles in significant numbers.

      @@deanfranklin6870 In at least the UK, France & Italy, thimbles & their variant forms have a truly ancient & varied history - usages include both leather & sailor-work, & I believe are known from the Roman period. They became "common" - a relative term - by the Medieval period.

      @@deanfranklin6870 Sacks - I own the oldest-known pair of French mason's trousers - 16th or 17th century. They were tied at the ankles, & used as a sack - stuffed with 800 years of documents. 2 intentionally sewn sacks were also stuffed - more than 2,000 pages & 800 years of French history.

      I thoroughly enjoyed that content. Would you consider publishing a monthly Time Team magazine, featuring old classics and finds up to the most up to date digs now, including historical facts and stories, plus an A-Z of all the Time periods covered. I think it would be great. Just an idea and I would definitely buy it.

    by leaps and bounds sutton hoo is of course my own favorite, but also the op nightengale stuff really hit me personally as i deal with PTSD as well. thanks for being who you are. all of you. my life is so much better because of what you all do.

    9:24 Depending on size, it may be a space heater. Put a lit candle in it, place it on a table. The metal acts like a heater element, warming the air around it. In a small room, tent or lean-to, it could keep the temperature a bit warmer. The drawback is it gets hot, so people must be careful not to touch it or to topple it over.

    Those decorated cone shaped this are for keeping fairies safe from cats. They can magic the top up and creep underneath until the cuddly kitten has gone.

    also a HUGE thumbs up to the book club. again as a glassmaker, the corning museum of glass has the largest library of glass related books on earth including a TON of archaeology related books, even accounts of early antiquarians! I will ask them to suggest a dozen books with an archaeology focus on glass.

    as a glassblower, if you could shed light on ennions workshop, that would be fantastic. he is the first known production glassmaker in history and his wares show up literally as prolifically as samian ware throughout the entire roman empire. i get a little grin every time i think of him. i am directly linked to roman handicraft. and thats amazing.

      XRF analysis works on glass, ceramics, metalwork & more - but its application is very sadly, vastly under-utilized. Institutions are partly to blame - they often charge 20 times what English assay offices do. Hand-held units remain stupidly expensive, & rental sources are extremely difficult to locate.

      @@hueman3840 I'm not sure why you'd not just sacrifice a couple of grams to a mass spectrometer though. It's already broken shards why not just vaporize a bit and be done with it? What advantage does x ray florescence have over a mass spec machine I wonder.

      @@joshschneider9766 Neolithic Chinese glass beads are virtually identical to those from Egypt - I own one. It has a typical "grave goods", probably calcareous deposition that has to be wetted before the looping & brilliant colors can be seen.

      @@hueman3840 heck i can make thousands of those type of beads a day now and youd never chemically know the difference other than how lakcing in contaminants it is LOL. basic glass chemistry is pretty simple. usually the location confirmation is what fluxes are used to lower silicas melting temp. that tended to be very geographically dependent, as in they used what was local because why wouldnt you. nowadays we use pretty pure calcium carbonate

    Depending on the size of the objects covered in the 1st segment those could be thimbles. Yes. Thimbles. It's something that American metal detectorist find on many old Homesites. They find them all over. Because everyone had to sew, or have someone do it for them. Because clothes had to be repaired constantly. I can't see how it could be different in the UK.

      @@deanfranklin6870 Thimbles are well-documented in at least Europe - I own a quantity of bronze thimbles, Medieval through Renaissance, including several exclusively used for leather or sailor-work.

    XRF analysis is one of the least-utilized yet most important tools available - it works on virtually all solid materials. The ongoing absurdly high cost of hand-held units needs to be addressed - at the very least, British & European rental sources need to be disclosed. I own the largest private collection of early lighting & related metalwork in France - with an XRF unit & an assistant, I could revolutionize what is known.

    I question the accuracy of statements about Poverty Point - a number of Neolithic Chinese Hongshan & Liangzhu Culture sites were huge.
    My collection of Neolithic "jade" (the word applies to other hardstones) pendants is small - about 60 - yet the international importance of sculpted or engraved motifs remains ignored by archaeologists.

    'Fighting on the Frontier' is one of my all-time favorite episodes, especially the recreation of the draco. It's always nice when Alan Larsen makes an appearance. He was also involved in a documentary that recreated a Hippica Gymnasia, which can also be found on CZcams czcams.com/video/4Ji7o_fmh_g/video.html

    As an independent scholar - historian of Decorative Arts - I'm astounded by what is NOT talked about in this broadcast. Cross-cultural studies remain in a dark region of infancy - this can be easily altered to hugely advance what is known of our world.

    Is constructive criticism acceptable? The presenter is reading a script, sometimes at pace. Listening requires concentration. I replay segments trying to catch bits I miss. A more relaxed off the cuff style might improve watchability.

      Personally, I found the presentation pace to be just right. Perhaps you could try reducing the speed on your computer settings by, say, 20% or so?

They always try to act righteous but in the end they are just robbing and desecration grave sites and selling garbage to museums which are fences for stolen property at best .     Watching for a second time cause it’s a great compilation Danni!
    But Why do h WHY doesn’t he ever SING those 😮suspected ancient songs or poems. I can not stand how he presents it, non of it sits well within. Please get him or a woman to bloody well sing cause we know the ancients had voices that also sang. If not let’s hear the evidence please.
