    Yesterday, I spent $60. OUT THE DOOR AT A PAWN SHOP! Today I googled and came up with your 3shot zero instruction. I have NEVER been able to zero a rifle scope in my life...on my own! Today in just 7 shots my Used GAMO SHADOW WHISPER I am on the 1cent diameter improvised target at a hair over 10 yards to adjust the GAMO SCOPE. The last 4 of the 10 shots useing Premier Destroyer 7.4gr pointed .177 pellets were all inside that circle. The squirrels in my pecan tree are headed to the frying pan!! Thank you for simple and easy instructions!

    Haven't had a chance to test if it holds zero, but mounts just fine and has nice clear glass. Centered vertically true to a plumb line with the crosshairs which is always a plus!It's a great czcams.com/users/postUgkxc4K63Fd5LglDMObu7-Bgapxp_ef0W8hE scope. There's no parallax adjustment or focus ring, so may be limited to 3-7x, have to see how it is on the range. Also be aware that the rings are "look through" so you can still use irons, but they are really tall if you only intend to use the optics. On a 22LR no biggie since I'm not shooting competitions or worried about a hard cheek press. Will boresight and range test, if all goes well, I'll leave it at that!

    One shot zero...1st. shoot at 35 yards while aiming at center target dot...2nd hold rifle at center target. 3rd turn dials to line up with the bullet hole. 4thly you are done... 1 shot zero... you can do this at any distance you want rifle zeroed. Note at 100 yds you may need a 4'x4' target. Done this many times works 100%. If you do this with a stationary rifle while dialing the turrets there's no need to even take a confirmation shot.

    follow-up. I have a sightmark wraith day/night vision scope. Go to sight-in, set caliber, bullet weight, set up to shoot. You will notice standard cross hair plus red "X". Take your shot at 25 yards. Put the cross hair "X" on bull's eye, move red "X" to bullet hole, hit "ok". You are now "zeroed". I DO take the second shot for "piece of mind", but you should be very close at 100 yards. Been there, done that.

    Hey, Matt. I have my brand new Helix scope mounted, but being a beginner shooter, my first shot was not even in the ball park. Question: where should the turrets be on the first shot? I am assuming windage and elevation should be a zero? Is 50 yards okay for my first zeroing attempt? I am shooting a RAW HM1000X Chassis. Right now just trying to get on paper. Frustrating.
    Also, any tips on getting a clear and centered look through the scope's sight window? Thanks for all you do.

  • @ladamyre1
    @ladamyre1 Před 3 lety

    After zeroing my Sig Saur BDX scope, the rangefinder it came with sends the ballistic data for the bullet to the scope and a little light on the reticle indicates the bullet drop for that distance. Before I get to my stand, I use my phone to find the bullet and send it's data to the rangefinder. If there's much wind I can plug an estimate for that into the system as well. When my spotter sees the boar, he lines up the cross-hairs on the rangefinder and pushes the button, sending the data to the scope. All I have to do then is line up the light on the reticle(s) with the target and pull the trigger to put 165 grains of death into the boars brain. He'll drop like a wet dishrag.

      @@ElementOptics No doubt and a novice shooter is wise to shoot 5 rounds discounting bad shots produced as a result of shooter error. BTW, back in 2003 I brought an iron sight 6.5/284 to the opening 600-yard Match of US NRA National Long-Range Championships. It was the first 600-yard event for that rifle. In other words, I went to the firing line without a no-wind ZERO for 600-yard distance. So, in prep period I laid the rifle out on seat of shooting stool and bore sighted, thereafter adjusting sight for elevation based on ballistics drop table. Upon hearing "you may commence firing when targets appear" I held hard and called my shot "right-in-there". Since it was indeed right-in-there, a pinwheel X, I decided to go for record. My next 6 shots were 12 o'clock ten ring hits, even though I was adjusting elevation downward about a half minute per shot. Of course, my nemesis was increasing barrel temperature which did not become consistent until my 7th round for record. When I finished my 20-round string of fire I discovered I shot a 200 clean with 14 X ring hits, which was good for a 4th place finish. Thing is I wonder now "what if" what if I had taken some more sighter shots to warm up my barrel to a consistent temperature? As I recall the 1st place shooter shot a 200 X 17.

    There is a faster, easier technique that is an old powder burner bench rest technique. On a steady bench. shoot one shot. Without moving the rifle from the original sighting point, dial the cross hair to intersect the point of impact. Now shoot three shots to verify the setting or to see if any minute adjustment needs to be done. No math, no guessing, fast and low ammo usage to zero. Sounds simple right? How can it be so simple?. In a word, you now have the poi where the poi of aim is. Nice NO? ;

    • @igoranisimov6549
      @igoranisimov6549 Před 2 lety +1

      That is only a method of sighting a rifle. Zeroing a scope it is more like fing a reference "zero" of a scope that was just mounted to the rifle. Imagine that the first shot could not be found on the paper at all. Sometimes new scope can be way off. Boresighting is a good starting point.

    This video shows the problem I have with the Helix, but doesn't explain how to FULLY reset the zero. Your scope here czcams.com/video/CLezNbeEm-Q/video.html is now set to -1 MRAD which is not zero. In my case I'm closer to +1 MRAD with the Wildcat Mk3 and Elements High rings. How do I reset the turret housing so it sits on the zero horizontal line? ie how do I undo a full rotation of the turret? The manual doesn't explain this, but surely a lot of people will be in this situation.

    • @ElementOptics
      @ElementOptics  Před rokem

      If I’m understanding you correctly, you are asking about the revolution indicator lines? These indicate where the turret sits in relation to the optical center, not to your zero. In other words, you can’t reset it yourself, but it is there to help you visualise where you are in term of the entire travel range of the the turret.

    • @kiwicam6419
      @kiwicam6419 Před rokem

      @@ElementOptics Yes, you understand correctly. If you dial to say 8 MRAD which is more than 1 revolution, it would seem like a useful marker to know that I was on 8 instead of 2 without having to dial all the way back to my zero stop which adds unnecessary wear and tear. Otherwise, just memorizing which line is zero for the scope. My zero is roughly 1 revolution. Maybe there is a better solution. Thanks for the explanation.

    It can be done in 2 shots. With the right scope it can be done in 1 shot. I have done it.

    And I can tell you how in less than 3 sentences the USAF Spl Ops Wing way:
    from a secured bench rest, keep moving the cross hairs towards the impact point on the target . If you can't zero in 3 shots, you're an idiot. Capt ret USAF 20th SOS, 27th Spl Ops Wing, Nam 1970-73, 20 years in.
