    I really appreciate keeping it simple with sharpening kit. I hope you will do more videos.

    Great video; thank you, Owen! Appreciate especially your "keep it simple" approach and very helpful close up shots. I hope you could also share how you sharpen your Mora 106 knife? Many thanks!

    I appreciated the close up shots! As well the reminders to stay positive. Even as simple as you have shown the process can be, I would still like to try a bit of unicorn leather given the chance. Thanks so much.

    This is something I personally struggle with on hook/spoon knives. Straight knives are a doddle, but the curve throws me right off.

      They are just a chisel edge, but round a curve. A lot of peoples issue with it is over thinking a bit 👍👍

    Hi Owen, thanks! I found out that it's verry wel possible to sharpen from the inside, also with flat insides... But in fact it's still a little bit of a struggle.... But it works! when you lift your round sharpning toolstik (?) just a tiny little bit so the pressure! is more on the bevel side than on the 'hole flat side', if you know waht I mean... Anyway. Nice video! I hope to recieve a finishing blade from Nick Westermann this month.... And besides that I'm using tools made by "Belzeboo Craft". Very nice tools! Keep up the good work! Kind regards, Sjors

      Thanks Vershout🙏 I understand what you mean. I dont advocate that method because lifting the stick on the inside means that you will be gradually increasing the overall edge angle. It does work to get it sharp but over time, you may find you increase the angle too much and begin to have issues cutting. A better thing to do is to flatten the inside and then it doesnt matter which method you use 👍

      @@OwenThomaswoodcraft Okay,.... good point. And how to flatten the inside? Just with sandpaper of a certain grit wrapped around your shapning stick? That might works I guess...

    • @OwenThomaswoodcraft
      @OwenThomaswoodcraft  Před 4 lety +1

      @@VersHout yeah that would work. If you have one you could also use a dremel with one of the sanding attachments

    Thank you so much for this great video. Is the problem with honing on leather the fact that a small micro bevel is rolled over the cutting-edge thereby dulling it? Can this be obviated by gentle pressure on the leather?

    Is it possible to use a leather strop to sharpen a spoon knife?

    • @OwenThomaswoodcraft
      @OwenThomaswoodcraft  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes absolutely. You need to be aware that it will round the edge over time and create a micro bevel but as long as you have a good sharpening regime, its not an issue

    Do you know how to sharpen a mora hook knife?

    • @OwenThomaswoodcraft
      @OwenThomaswoodcraft  Před 4 lety +2

      Yes! Yoh can use the same techniques in this video for a mora hook. An important improvement for the older models is to try and remove the secondary bevel on the edge. You would find that a coarser grit of stone or paper will help you with that. My friend Sean Hellmann has made a video specifically about reshaping a mora 164. It would be well worth looking at.

    So with the twca cam do you just sharpen with wet and dry paper on dowel on the inside cutting edge and hown the outside edge?

    • @OwenThomaswoodcraft
      @OwenThomaswoodcraft  Před 3 lety

      Yes, exactly that.

      @@dalefalgate2716 it's not too hard. Drill a hole and a bit of epoxy
