I just wanna say that although Me and Zoe (and FAB by proxy cuz he defended Zoe, as he should) had a disagreement online like a year ago i like Zoe the roasta and am happy to see him branching out into different ventures as well as turn a negative into a positive by finessing his street reputation into a legit money making position in the industry. Thats what everybody that can should do. I know it must not be easy cuz people like
Us are dinosaurs in some fashion in comoarison to how the youngest generation operates as well as how much the game has transformed since digital and hes still getting in where he fits in to get his piece. Good for him. I wish our interaction hadnt been misconstrued and what i said taken as shit talking instead of constructive criticism just tryjng to give him my opinion from the outside looking in and a suggestion. They werent able to tell that i had the best of intentions and i must take responsibility for it going sideways because i obviously didnt communicate my point efficiently. They certainly werent pleased with what i said and it was frustrating because i was trying help, whether or not my opinion was valid remained to be seen but i just wanted to give it to them so they could determine for themselves whether it had any merit & if not, feel free to disagree and disregard it and disregard it. I seem to have this happen often with rappers. Well, people in general always say they want the ugly truth over a pretty lie or people to keep it real. And im lucky during my time in the industry i learned to seperate myself and my ego from whatever task i perform that is scrutizined or critiqued. I never. Take it personal. I appreciate when somebody tells me some area im slipping in or could improve in by doing such and such. I understand nobody is going to do everything well and nobody is always going to be right. In the army I hated running but was an expert marksmen. If somebody told me i need to work on my two mile run cuz im breathing wrong or just going slower than they tbought i was capable of im not gonna get mad at them or beat myself up. I know that im gonna be in the last 1/3 of the platoon in a run but im gonna be in the top 3 on the shooting range. But even at the shooting range ill have off days when instead of hitting 29 out of 30 ill hit maybe 21. Im not a bad shooter for that. Im just not perfect. I wish that everybody, but especially rappers due to the nature of the business could just see things as somebody saying hey bro. That one aint it. Its too this or that and realize not only am i saying what i thought could be done better in a nice way, but suggestions to improve it. As well as realize that risking our relationship and them getting butthurt by giving them this feedback and still doing it because i respect them and want to see then win that much. Theres actually no win for me. Either my 2cents helps them perform better, out of which i get nothing but to see them win. Or they get offended and defensive because they think im hating and now dont like me. Either way i get nothing. Thats why there are so many fake corporate yes men in the industry. Because being honest when the truth isnt flattering is horrible for your career longevity but telling the money maker what he wants to hear is great for that persons job security. But the artist suffers. I just wish artists can seperate their ego and identity from the job they perform. Rappers, you ARENT just raps. The songs u make dont define u. They are something u do. Rapping is gonna end for u some day and u are still gonna be the great person with all ur admirable qualities or that shitty person with all your flaws long after u hang the mic up. Youd be that same person u are today if u worked at UPS instead of ever rapping. U are more than ur art. And you arent a perfect artist. Youll have good and bad days. Hits and misses. You might be able to have more hits then misses if you can step out of ur treeline in a forest full of trees and see the view from outside the forest, for some perspective. And if u dont like the view the. Go back. So rappers, really sit down tonighy, do some introspection and ask yourself if you really do want people to just be honest so u can have some baseline of reality in relationship to the world around and that you can handle somebody dissecting your work without feeling like they are picking you as a human being apart. Can you be objective and not take offense if its something u dont wanna hear? Cuz if not and u just want somebodies opinion when they agree with you and are saying what youre looking to hear, thats easy. Alot easier than risking having to catch fades in the parking lot or getting junped by your entourage for trying to help u step ur shit up to a new level. For me at least. Your career will suffer, but it wont be noticeable to you because you have inadvertantly surround urself with shovels which seemed great when u needed to dig until u realized u dug a pit for your career to lie down and die in but u realize it too late cuz everybody in ur circle is telling u how dope ur shit is and putting their stamp on some lazy generic song u made cuz they are gonna pump up whatever u make and u never even noticed ur career trajectory wasnt living up to the hype ur trusted crew inflated along with your ego. And once people aint checking for u anymore cuz u were never able to make quality on a consistent basis, u aint coming back. I mean if u bout to holla at a dime at a function and u got some food in ur teeth youd want ur man to tell u so u could tighten up and shoot ur shot. Not him see it and not say shit, let u go over there and not only be embarassed but miss out on knocking ur dream chick that could have been your next ex wife. Cuz u forgot to put ur big boy pants on and the lil boy in you doesnt like when people say things that dont make u feel like the biggest boss in the building. So ask yourself rappers… do you want to achieve the highest level of success that your talents can afford you and be the best you can be at your craft Or do you just wanna be liked and feel good and skate by with a mediocre career that never met its potential and forever be that one rapper guy who made that one song and never really took off after that. And if you really are good with a little bit of hood fame over a successful career thats fineZ nothing wrong with it. Just be honest. With yourself and the people willing to put it on the line to help u get where u they think u could be. And well save our opinions for the people who appreciate them and will put use them to hone their craft and everybody wins. I understand the conflict tho cuz so many people are just haters or passive aggressive so i dont blame rappers with egos automatically taking anything as disrespect. Haters just being miserable dicks who want company are so prevalent and there are so few people who think like me and can separate business from personal that if i wasnt one of then id probably stay on defcon three and be assume the next person not kissing my ass must be trying to kick it and return fire.
