  • After nearly 180 years, "Pontiac Fire Department" will no longer be the name on the side to the engines or on the front of the Stations, but it will be the name that every pontiac fire fighter past and present will never forget because it is in our heart and soul. Once a pontiac fire fighter always a pontiac fire fighter.

In the face of each and every one of you, I saw my brother, Lt. John J. Stewart, FDMV (NY), deceased 3/2/11. You are a special breed whose hearts are as big as any in the world. I love you all, each and every one, known and unknown. I do not know the circumstances that have led to the end of the Pontiac F.D., but, as you know well, you will always be "brothers" wherever you are, wherever you go. In happiness and in tragedy you will always be there for each other. God Bless you all.

My dad retired from the Pontiac Fire dept after 33 years of service in 1976. He is gone now, he would have been devistated to see the Fire dept he loved desolved. God Bless all those fire fighters who served so gallantly.

You are all heroes. Even those who were never tried by flames personally. Just for volunteering for the job, like a soldier, you commit to save lives at your own risk.
As a kid raised in Waterford, and now raising kids in Waterford, those of you who come over to join the team will certainly be accepted as peers, brothers, and representatives of a great city. Everyone hopes the best for Pontiac. I personally hope for a better city government so you can all go back to your own firehouses.
    Peace

My first experience with firefighters was when my mom took me to the House on Huron at Telegraph so I could get my "Sparky the Firedog" card authorized. I had to tell a firefighter where my family's meeting place was, and demo things like Stop, Drop & Roll. That was 40 years ago and I still remember how cool a visit it was. Because of that, my family of 5 and dog have 4 smoke detectors, 2 fire extinguishers and a family meeting place for a 1250 sq ft home. Our hydrant is 88 feet from the door!

I do not know where Pontiac is, but if my job was being disbanded, I would like to think my community would be rallying at city hall until the situation was fixed. Who will put the fires out without these guys?
