  • The 2022 Nissan Frontier SV is the work truck for the working American. There's no nonsense with this vehicle. It has a body on frame chassis that gives you the capability that the Hyundai Santa Cruz or Honda Ridgeline can't offer, but also you have the towing and payload capacity that can compete against the Chevrolet Colorado and Toyota Tacoma. So let's take a deep dive into the Nissan Frontier to see how it compares and contrasts to it's rivals.
    Huge thank you to Infiniti of Norwood for providing the Nissan Frontier for this review!

    It's SO nice to finally see someone review the SV trim. There are hundreds of Pro4X reviews out there. SV is much harder to find. I have pretty much this exact truck - same color, same tech and convenience packages - even the same mileage within a hundred! This is a great truck, and one of the reasons I was drawn to it was because of that "old school" truck feel when you are driving it. Even the power steering is hydraulic instead of electric, and I *like* that. I wanted a naturally asperated engine, and the competitors in this class all offer 4-cylinder turbo. Nissan really did a great job sending the Frontier to the top of its class with the 2022 model year.
    However, if you are the kind of person that likes all the high tech gadgets and modern, sleek looks, you may want to hold off for the '23 model year Colorado or Canyon. The Frontier jumped over them for the '22 model year, but GM is leapfrogging back over it for '23. Myself, I prefer the more simple - yet highly capable - Frontier.

    If you want your engine to last much longer, this is the only option in the segment. Turbos simply won't last as long, and they'll cost more to fix.

    Sidewalls on 17" (SV) versus 16" (S trim). Doesn't the 16" wheel have more sidewall and therefore a quieter ride on the highway...? It is my understanding that the base trim (S) comes with 16" wheels and the SV comes with 17. Nice review.

    Maybe I missed it but the bed appears significantly longer on the SV vs. the Pro 4X? Also, you mention that Ford is going to refresh the Ranger but GM has already come out with a completely new Colorado/Canyon.

    There appeared to be a lot of vibration during the driving from the action cameras - was it windy that way or was that something that you felt translated through the drivetrain?

    • @BostonAutoBlog
      @BostonAutoBlog  Před 2 lety

      I think some of the vibration can be attributed to my camera mount. Been having some trouble with it and that was enhanced by the stiffer suspension.

    Augh Nissan made this really hard for me and many. I want a locker, but I don’t want to be forced into a short bed truck! I’m not into off-roading, I just want the feature incase im going through a snowstorm with deep snow or driving on the beach sand with my family. An optional locker should be allowed on a sv trim, Nissan you’re really stupid!

      You also have to factor in pricing as well. By throwing the Ridgeline intro the mix you then have throw in other competitors as well which can certainly be cross shopped especially against a pickup that has a starting price below $30k

    Body on frame IS a pickup. Everything else is something else. Want milage? Buy a Carola. Want a nice ride? Get a Caddy. Want a race car? Buy a Mustang. Leave the pickups alone. They are for work, not personal convenience or clout.

    why do you keep talking about what's in the pro-4x when this is supposed to be a review of the sv? Annoying. No XM Radio, no charging pad for phone. A considerable amount of plastic everywhere. Overall, while it has a nice price point for a v6 based midsize, it does not offer some of the basic comforts. It's a work truck. With street wheels.
