    I’m Up to 40 rescues in the last 16 years , living in the bigger city of Houston I’ve found these scattered across the metro area , tucked away on driveways , nestled amongst trees . They all need the rescue redo , BUT , they will run . The secret is bringing a fuel can , hoses to reroute the fuel and a hot battery. The true glory of the 617 turbos is how they resists water intrusion by its intake design , a long sitting Parker diamond in the rough ,how they got their is undoubtedly THE “I’ll get too it later disease” by the owner . Fuel filters , glow plugs , braking issues not fully understood , and yeh olde tank sshews . Tanks are the dirty bit of the rescue clues but if your dedicated and willing to dive into a rescue your rewards await the brave . Happy hunting

    Fantastic. Thanks for the video. My 95 W124 e300D has a microbe infestation in the tank. I was losing power in the higher revs. I took the tank strainer out and you couldn’t even see it from the black mass on it. It had even made its way to the pre-filter mesh screen on the engine. Looks like I’ve got to drop the tank and have a good clean. Thanks again.

    Quick question what do you put in the tank once its clean as to dry all the water? Do you just let it air dry or is there a process?

    Algae! That’s crazy! A daunting task indeed and looks a little funny when you’re both shaking the tank. I bet you had some funny looks from people. All in a days work. 👍🏻

      Mercedes Classic with Pierre Hedary yeah I do that with window air conditioners when I had them. Spray bleach spray in there and watch the mold ‘melt’. So satisfying for some reason.

    Great video! I recently received an old gas generator that would not crank and was shocked to find algae growing all in the fuel tank, down the fuel lines, and into the carburetor. I knew that diesel did, but I was unaware that gasoline would harbor algae. Is that the case, or is something else likely going on? Thx

    Too bad your weren't doing videos back when i had an inherited 300sd that was neglected. Got it back to a solid machine except the damn algea. I got vary adept at changing the pre-filter on the side of the road. Became part of the driving ritual. All the biocice in the world wouldnt solve it until i salvaged another tank from....yes...LKQ ...
    Sorry to end on that sore spot Pierre. Look forward to more great insights.

      It should be reusable after being filtered. Should be able to filter it thru old nylon panty hose. Use a leg and double it up.

    How do you know if you have algae in your tank? Is there anything you can do to prevent it?

    • @mercedesclassicswithpierre1753
      @mercedesclassicswithpierre1753  Před 5 lety +2

      check your fuel filters. To prevent it, don;t let your car sit around for years at a time with water in the tank, a leaking fuel cap and questionable fuel

    • @meadedillon1715
      @meadedillon1715 Před 5 lety +2

      If the car is not being used, keep the fuel tank full. This minimizes the water, which condenses from the air (if there is any air space at the top of the tank). Dose with biocide as a preventive.
