    This was the exact model I had in the early 90s ! It was an amazing build and the gumstick battery was light, too. Loved watching this video:

    I would steer well clear from this model and the WM-EX50, today, 2022, they always have a broken clutch gear that needs replacement and all the capacitors need replacing to get audio end servo back working. There is no room for capacitors that are not the same size (bigger), else you block the mechanism when the PCB is folded back, it's all SMD and requires quite some skill to replace them. (especially without severing soldering pads from the PCB). They are very pretty and take both a AA or a Gumstick, but not worth the effort to me.

      I got my A602 working. I changed all the electrolytics. All of them had leaked on to the board so i had to clean with denatured alcohol. I also had to resolder the tape type switch as it didn't have good connection with the solderpads. It was so corroded by the leaky capacitors.

    It is, probably, the best Waljman I've ever had. (and I've had a few!). Your video was really instructive to know how to open it. I replaced the belt on my one, (which was desintegrated), but, sadly, it isn't work since a long time ago. Maybe I should have repaired it when it happened, but repairs were so expensive at that time! What happens? battery light doesn't turn on. Maybe it is a capacitor, I don't know. I don't remember what happened when stopped working (yes, I was heavily using it).

    • @sjm4306
      @sjm4306  Před rokem +1

      Is there any battery leakage on the contacts? It could also be cold solder joints, bad caps, or oxidation. I wish I could give you one certain answer but unfortunately given their age there's a million things that could cause the light not to come on/no power.

The auto-reverse mechanism is busted, and does exactly what your does at 20:40, where it refuses to turn the "FWD" takeup reel for more than a second. And leaky capacitors mean I just get a constant squeal when playing tapes. What a shame. This Walkman has one of the finer external builds and designs, in my opinion, with the aluminum and steel casing.

    Hello there! I have a Sony TCM WM-2091 which did not work, after watching your video I decided to open it up and see, the belt had completely gone, turned into chewing gum! I 3D printed a new belt, got the mechanism to work but noticed some parts where loose so it was auto reversing continuously. I have now put them back but I had to remove some of the wheels to do this, on putting them back I now realize that the centre wheel, the black one with the white center needs a "lock washer" , I think it's called this way.
    Do you have any idea where I could get one of these, the internal diameter is 0,8 mm.
