I’ve have been to a lot of cities within the US and some are personal favorites, like New York City, Seattle, Chicago, and San Diego. The one thing these cities have in common is that everyone knows about them, and for good reason. But, in my opinion I think Milwaukee, Wisconsin needs to get more recognition as a travel destination in the US.
Milwaukee is situated along Lake Michigan and because it's near the Great Lakes it experiences rapidly changing weather, with cold, windy, snowy winters, and warm, humid summers. The warmest month of the year is July, while January is the coldest month
Milwaukee is home to almost 600,000 residents which makes it close to the top 30 largest cities in the US and is the main cultural and economic center of the metropolitan area. With a city this size it is home to an NBA team, an MLB team, the Milwaukee Brewers, and a nearby NFL team.
Although the city may be best known for beer, there is more to it than just bar food and cheese churds. The city is quickly building up a food scene that has everything from 5 star restaurants to grabbing a quick slice of pizza. I also had Mexican, ramen, pastries, seafood and all were great! Also, if you are not a huge fan of beer there are things like distilleries, cocktail bars, and wine bars throughout the city.
Milwaukee is a popular venue for water sports because it is close to Lake Michigan. If you don’t want to go out on the lake you can easily kayak through the city!
If you are going to kayak in the city I definitely recommend you head north on the river. We went south because there was a bar I wanted to check out but it is pretty industrialized. Just trust me- there are better beers and views if you just go north.
If you don’t want to be in the water you can easily check out the city by renting a bike and going to parks, black cat alley, the bronze fronz or the North point lighthouse. The North Point Lighthouse, which was built in 1888, is now a museum and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
MilIwaukee is also often referred to as the City of Festivals because of the numerous festivals throughout the summer. June has festivals for the LGBT and Polish communities. Summerfest spans 11 days at the end of June and beginning of July. There are French, Greek, Italian and German festivals in July. There are African, Arab, Irish , Mexican, and American Indian events from August through September. Milwaukee is also home to Trainfest, the largest operating model railroad show in America, in November.
During the summer months, there is a real emphasis on being outdoors and the city provides a lot of options!
Cathedral Park in Downtown Milwaukee hosts "Jazz in the Park" on Thursday nights. Nearby Pere Marquette Park hosts "River Rhythms" on Wednesday nights.
If you aren’t into festivals or listening to music, don’t worry because you have the option of relaxing by the beach at South Shore, Mckinley, or Bradford beach.
Milwaukee has many museums like the Pabst Mansion, Milwaukee Public Museum, Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum , Harley Davidson Museum, the National bobblehead Hall of Fame and more.
The Historic Third Ward, which is about three blocks south of downtown is home to the Milwaukee Public Market which is a unique downtown food destination! It provides shopping and unique and quality food - like salmon jerky and clothing from independent sellers. But the historic third ward has more to it than just that! There are art galleries , performing arts venues, patio, rooftop and water front dining, boutiques and a river walk
If you are staying in the downtown area you can easily walk to most of your destinations whether on Brady street, popular for diverse dining options and a vibrant bar scene. The Historic Third Ward or elsewhere and enjoy the sprawling house in areas near lake park and the Old North Point Water Tower or old churches throughout the city.

I was born and raised in Milwaukee and I'm proud to say it is at long last becoming a vibrant city. Very overdue, and for the longest time I couldn't say that. Now, although it was a great video from beginning to end, I'll focus on just one small part of it. That's because this video is the only one I've seen that informs and shows the viewer that Milwaukee is home to several wonderfully large and lengthy sandy beaches. How many people know that? When I was growing up we went to Bradford Beach every weekend in the summer, but when I visited the city several years ago, for the first time in a long time, I was stunned at how packed the beaches had become. Way more than I remember. Not overcrowded yet, but certainly enough to suggest the word has gotten out. We had a great lunch down there, and for several hours we watched the professional volleyball tournament taking place. And as you sit there, you are surrounded by stunning scenery. In front of you is the breathtaking lake, with all of its sailboats, for as far as the eye can see. To your right you can see downtown, and behind you are the Lake Michigan Bluffs, and to your left, running north, is a continuation of the bluffs and the beach and the lake. It is truly a beautiful city and a terrific video. I've got to take a trip back there this summer.

The Zoo was once rated one of the top 2 or 3 in the nation. Perhaps back in the 60's. Today, big cities have benefactors that donate huge sums to the Zoo's and new exhibits can be created.
The San Diego Zoo is very impressive. You might need to visits to see it all. 35 miles north of San Diego is the Wild Animal park. It is not cheap, maybe $45 per ticket, but it is worth it. The park is very large so there are trams and buses that allow you to see it, without all the walking. There are plenty of shade trees, benches and food courts, the same is true of the San Diego Zoo. Huge donations from many wealthy families have allowed these two public parks, to make the visitor experience first class.

You want the best coffee you gotta go to Rochambo (personally I miss Rory's and Sunset Blvd but thats lates 90s, lol) Plus Downer Street area and the Domes. I'm actually glad you didn't list Potowatomi Casino, but you missed Leons and Kopps for custard, Pizza Shuttle for the greatest by-the-slice pizza and Mazo's for burgers, plus Miss Katie's 50s style diner where all the presidents eat when they visit. But we have other beaches too like Doctor's park furthur north and Grant Park/7 Bridges beach furthur south (both still in Milwaukee Co. but outside the "city").
Oh and you forgot our local celeb the Millverine, lol
Regardless its great to see a vid like this about Milwaukee cuz despite being the most racially segregated city and having huge sections of low income citizens we have TONS of great things to offer all year round and our little-ish city really is beautiful. And truly UNDERRATED

Awesome video Jake!! I have moved here, I am a local Realtor and run a channel on Milwaukee; you are absolutely right: it is unexpectedly nice, but also an acquired taste I think - we have a lot more people relocating here in recent years and when I ask them why, they say it has a cool vibe, friendly people and great food. I have several friends who moved to AZ and SoCal or Vegas and came back. I have see some comments on here which are factually incorrect, unemployment for example in Wisconsin is well below national average at 3.8% in April 2021 post Covid. We do have poverty and high crime in parts of the inner city (that is Milwaukee proper), but show me one metro area that does not. BTW I see sometimes bad stats about Milwaukee city (600k people), they fail to mention the other 19 municipalities that make up Milwaukee metro (or what you would think is all Milwaukee) - about 1.6 million people. Most of the higher income is in the surrounding municipalities and the stats change dramatically! I was not excited to move here, but now I love it! And I have seen my share of the world!

One of the best kept secrets about Wisconsin is the northern half of the State. From Two Rivers to Sister Bay to Minocqua. My guess is 95% of residents in the southern half, do not know where Washington Island is located and very few have ever been there. It requires a ferry ride and two persons with a car is $65 roundtrip, so many will not add that to their travels. Even fewer venture to Rock Island. That is a second ferry ride, maybe 10 minutes, and a must see place. The food on Washington Island will be a big surprise ! It is fantastic. An absolute gem to visit. Somewhere a resident is reading this post and thinking, oh no don't share that info!

@@JakeMillerDoesTravel - There is plenty of competition for vacation destinations. The east and west coasts plus the Gulf will always be popular, given the beaches and nice weather.
I have relatives in Middleton, a suburb of Madison roughly 8 miles NW of the city. They have never been to the very scenic town of Cambridge, WIS which I estimate is 10 miles east of Madison and a few miles south of interstate 94.
Cambridge is a very small scenic town next to Lake Ripley. The lake is 400 acres and a road surrounds the lake with beautiful homes and cottages. There is a large restaurant about 2 miles from the lake that serves a very popular fish fry on Friday nights, with view of a lake. Driving there in July one summer we passed a corn field with stalks that were 10 feet high.
Another tip we were given one year, was a place in Little Sturgeon Bay ( this is in Door County, on the NE side of the state), called the Sunset Bar and Grill. Great food and great views on the Bay. It is several miles off the main road and the speed limits enroute are low, so it takes a little bit of time to get there, but worth it. Little Sturgeon Bay is a nice place to stay and is a few miles south of Sturgeon Bay. Sturgeon Bay is a nice place to stay if you like walking the streets of a small town, but also want the convenience of having several good restaurants close by.

I think outside the downtown area there is crime. Most large cities in the US will have some level of crime and this is no different. I didn’t encounter and I think as long as you stay in good areas you’ll be okay
