I filmed myself making this ring and edited down to a relatively short video. The worked on the ring for about 12 hours over the course of 2 days. There were a lot of little steps in making this that I had to skip in order to keep the video as short as possible. So if you have any questions about how I made it, let me know and I'll do my best to get back to you.
Here's a link to where you can get an expanding ring mandrel: goo.gl/WlnvSn
I myself am a soon to be licensed machinest and the number one thing we're taught in school and on the workplace is to never wear gloves while operating any machinery that rotates, this video made my anxiety spike 😬
This ring is its own best advertisement. I would be proud to wear it. Very nicely done.
That's a very clever idea, using one power tool in line with another one, thus doubling the speeds.
That thing is beautiful. Great work
Came out beautiful!
This was really beautiful work
It's a sick looking ring LOVE IT amazing work
Beautiful ring, well done dude
I loved the video-great tips for a craftsman
Beautiful ring!!
Great idea! You show very well how to and there are no lengths in the video!
Very nice ring. To avoid breakout, I start w/drilling a small pilot hole for alignment, score one side w/both hole saws a few mm deep, then flip over and drill through. Any rough spot from breakthrough is a small line inside. Also, if there are any small gaps or voids I use epoxy. Cyanoacrylate adhesives are only effective where materials are in contact.
All I can say is WOW!!!!
I have access to a local workshop with a lathe.... this is tempting...
Hey man awesome .. what i s that tool you used to hold the carbon ring on the lathe, can you tell me please ?
Awesome work!
Thanks, that's the jig I was looking for. Have a small tube to face and chamfer both ends.
Very good job!!!
Boy you do nice work
Very, very nice. Keep it up.
Very good job!

Very cool!
Excellent job...
Very cool in the 90s they made alot of things with this design skeem
PERFEKT
I LIKE IT
gorgeous
@ Patrick Adair Desings ...and anyone else who's interested:
In order to help preserve your diamond-dipped hole saws when cutting marble, simply form a ring of plastercine, or clay, or blue tac, or even bread dough (flour and water), around the area you want to cut out, and fill it with water or oil. Once you've cut the smaller hole, the water or oil will still drain away slowly (quite slowly if you use thicker oil), but you can continuously top it up as you go. That way, you can keep more of the cutting edge covered and cool. :)
I love it
Hey great ring
very beautiful
Question! If we had specific material we wanted turned into a ring, can you make that happen? I truly appreciate your craftsmanship
hello, congratulations for the good work.
I wanted to ask where to buy tool to hold ring on a lathe.
thank you
A great video, keep them coming! And even the comments are pretty good. :) That ring has turned out very nicely; I had wondered whether the copper discs would mate flat with their neighbouring pieces but it seems to have turned out fine. Do you think the copper is sort of squidged in while you're grinding everything flat? It's certainly great to see how you're doing it!
why isn't this on the shop online, it looks awesome!
damn looks so nice 😫
By the way you have a great channel in here and lot of fun ideas
good works for you
Love the video, need to know where I can get the metal circles in the ring?
that marble is beautiful in there
Bonito trabajo. Aunque olvido incluir la lista de materiales y maquinaria usada junto con sus proveedores. Gracias.
Awesome video! That ring is awesome! In about to turn carbon fiber for the first time. Any tips? And what products do you use for the finishing process? What oil and polishing compound? And do you seal any of your rings? Of so what do you use. My rings finish keep chipping.
awesome! thank you so much
hey guys in my life is a very nice and warm and ee to be the best of all of
Be very careful with any composite materials, especially carbon fiber. The fibers them selves can be very toxic if finely ground or burned when inhaled. At crash sites teams spray everything down with wax to keep anyone from breathing it.

Very cool watching the process. Really nice finished product too. Question, what kind of hole cutting bit are you using there?
Thanks for the video very interesting material. Advise a set of diamond hole saw, possibly any particular brand?
+Patrick Adair Designs I understand you, thanks! I hope soon to see more videos on the topic, perhaps with some advice for beginners)
Can you comment on the brand/make of that expanding mandrel? Thanks!
Thank you Very much for sharing your work with us -- this IS, by definition, true and actual Craftsmanship! One can only hope that such work inspires people and brings about a similar calling in the younger generation. One day, may they break from the zombified states of iHypnosis and excercise the possibilities of handmade artistic expression!
you're killin me with the gloves dude. Look up what happens when the lathe gets a hold of one... also what glue do you use for wood to metal applications, can't find one that holds well.
Nice
I really want to get into this with my lathe but I can't find the expanding chuck you use to hold the ring. Where could I find something like that?
i want it!!
i want that ring!!!
wow!!!
how can I buy this ring?
Thanks :)
love this ring so much... really wish that i had one T.T
Awesome work. Just one question. How does it call the "thing" which you use to hold the ring during grinding on lethe?
Where do you get the carbon fiber blanks? I want some thick ones like this for another use
Pouwahaha
Pwahaha
Hi, I really liked the ring, you could tell me please on what page I can buy that carbon fiber blade, I can not find it and I would like the exact greetings
AMAAAAAAZING MEGAAA AMAAAZING ** ART_WORK **!!!!!👌💪👍👍👍
what type of drill press, lathe, hole saws and adhesive did you use?
so I have no experience with this at all but I've got a question. it looks like Windex was used to cut the ring on the press, do you have to use Windex or can you use antifreeze in the spray bottle?
If you were to start the project again what would you have done to ensure a snug seal between all the different materials. I noticed that there isn't a great seal between the copper and other two materials. Would you put them in a vice to make them perfectly flat?
Patrick Adair Designs хорошего качества
Good stuff mate, I like the channel +1 Sub
Hello, super pretty. But what's the name of the chuck you use to hold the ring, please?
That ring looks wonderful! I wish I had the tools to make my own.
Question: How do you protect the copper from getting rusty? Do you coat the ring at the end with something?
Save The Donuts
Copper doesn't rust. It turns a sickly shade of green. Called verdigris. It polishes off, no worries.
Anyone else who would pay top dollar for that? Beautiful work!
Hi, can you change the copper with silver?
Q: That stepped expansion mandrel you're holding in the chuck... where did you get that? or, did you make it? That's a nice piece of tooling all by itself. Would love to know where I can get one.
hi mate, can you tell me what materials do you use for polishing this ring? its so shiny, i love it! (ps: sorry for my bad english)
Got an email about a nostalgic video, a follow up to bunch of other interesting emails after I bought 2 carbon fiber rings (all I could afford ;) ). What do you do? What should I do? The author was really frank about why this video was so special for him. At least that's what I wanted to believe at the moment.
And I see why you mentioned nostalgia. It really is nostalgic. Those worn tools, garage, DIY action and progression really are making you feel warm inside, as a fellow tinkerer.
Great ring, imperfections make it really unique, one-of-a-kind :). I know people prefer perfect things for themselves but when you do something yourself for yourself you really appreciate those imperfections (at least I do). Thanks for great content and great rings Patrick and the crew.
P.S. Would love to see a video depicting a making of an amber + carbon fiber ring (externally two carbon fiber pieces L shaped to accommodate an amber inside, T shaped - the vertical T part to make it transparent in the middle, to show any interesting cracks and dust-size particles stuck in it; or amber outside and carbon fiber inside) . Ba, if I could afford it I would buy it (but probably couldn't, haha). But those materials would be difficult because both can easily overheat and burn :=.
Thanks for the kind comment, I’m really glad you read my emails! Also that amber and carbon fiber idea sounds amazing!
What type of lathe tool do you have to hold the ring in your lathe
Came here from your "advertising" on jimmydiresta...well, you got yourself a sub :)
Are you using Windex as a lubricant? XD Love your work by the way!
I thought it might be Windex too! Did you do that for lubrication, or to keep the dust contained? I've heard cutting carbon fiber can be quite hazardous.
*****
Ahh, Ok, thanks.

Patrick Adair Designs
how do you get the part out of the smaller cutter? i'm have a lot of trouble with that.
Very nice!@
Where do you buy the raw materials?
Could you tell, where did you get this graded type of jaw chuck extension? I'm looking for something like that for quite some time with no result. Did you make it yourself?
wow
Would you make and sell one of those rings, because I would love to have one?
Hermoso anillo. Pero si tuviera esas maquinas estaría haciendo piezas para F1. Rinde
What type of grinding wheel are you using in the dremel?
Hello, first congratulations! Beautiful. I would like to send me here in Brazil? If so what price?
What type of hole saw did you use? What was the diameter on those?
Hi, Idont know what are you using for driling, but it squeeze to much, for you need to use oil-water emulssion, for aluminium -alcohol, water for stone
the ring looks cool but It cant be sized without breaking so i guess they would have to be made to order but very cool
Where did u get that carbon fiber
How did u make the ring your wearing in the video
Love your work, Do u still sell these?
Johan Wu go to his website he has loads of rings for sale this one is also for sale. The link for his website should be in the description.
how much will you make after selling it
What did you use to seal the copper and prevent oxidation?
***** alright thats fair, and theres no contact between skin and copper so theres no skin discoloration so its perfect. Great video, i love your work!
