Yeah, it's the same with NASA. You can't apply for that job unless you are an actual US citizen, and for some jobs you actually need to be BORN in the US to apply.
Truth be told, this is not actually as unreasonable as it may sound. Because corporate espionage is a very real threat, and when we talk about rockets... well, even if it's a civilian rocket, it's still a rocket. It doesn't really matter what payload you put into it - a satellite, an astronaut or a nuke. It'll fly up just as good and deliver the load wherever you need it. So to have such technology exposed to people from other countries - is a real threat, and nobody wants to do that. Space programs of other countries are operating under the same rules, too, so US is not unique here.
It sucks when you're an honest engineer who just wants to work on rockets. But that's the price we are paying for security.
@Popiiporo Imagining that reminded me of that "Texas Plumbers truck bought by ISIS" story... lmao
let's be real. going to space is secondary to developing ballistic missiles.
NASA was created by nazi scientists though 🤔 oh the irony.....
@@OnTheBlankUK not so much created but they were used.
Despite how it looks oficially, they were basically prisoners who traded their work in exchange for freedom. If they didnt agree to work for nasa - they would have either be imprisoned or grabbed by Soviet Union. Those people had no choice, nowhere to run, and no one to sell their secrets to. Im sure they were kept under surveilance for their entire life in usa.
So those are "safe" for NASA to employ. Notso with an immigrant who can learn a lot over 10 years and then decide to go back home and bring his knowledge with him, or even be a spy from the start.

that cough at the end, was just the cherry on top

It made me laugh out loud, am I bad? Lol

This made me think about the Elon Musk & Jack Ma talk. He takes time to think the most when he tries to save the other person face as much as possible 🤣🤣🤣

I love the wooping and cheering, followed by getting owned.
Too bad Elon senpai isn't very good at public speaking, it's only a 3rd-degree burn, if it were Michio Kaku or Neil Degrasse Tyson, the whole place would be on fire.
followed by the absolute silence when hes done. only a cough was to be heard.
i bet everyone that cheered felt really dumb afterwards. it's such an obvious explanation
If I was that woman, I would have made sure my question couldn't be answered with 1 minute of googling. I only slightly looked into getting a job in aero/space tech and immediately came across this regulation. not much different in many other countries btw.
i know what a room full of morons. "hey why aren't you hiring Iranians and north koreans to build rockets firing heavy payloads into orbital space!" "UM because its still essentially a fuckin rocket" this tech is massively dangerous if blueprints get leaked north korea wouldnt have to miniature a nuke they can send up a huge half ass bomb capable of hitting nyc.
He’s brilliant. Having been through this, obtaining US visas is such a costly and stressful experience.
That’s how you answer a question when your goal is to educate. Not to prove someone wrong per se or argue, just to give information. I think that’s why it was weirdly quiet at the end, the crowd’s intentions didn’t seem to be the exchange of information, it seemed as if they were to accuse.
Pretty certain that woman thought she asked a “gotcha” question. Little did she know lol
not really, it is a legit question. people dont know so ask. Now she knows and at least had balls to ask it. People criticizing he for it are the stupid ones. Oh and the people cheering too, that was stupid, but that is another matter
@@13dg The premise of the question was a pretty legit one. "Why doesn't SpaceX hire people from other countries?" That is valid in every sense. However the way the question was asked is what was problematic. It sounded very much like they were accusing him of being biased or racist when in reality he simply didn't have much an option. By law he can only hire a select group of people, as unfortunate as that is.
Elon has shown little if any at all racist tendencies.
As naive or overly optimistic as it sounds, I think people should think more along the lines of identifying as human than before race.
Just my two cents anyway. Hope this helps
Cheers.
@@andreproudian7032 I'm so lazy. They're SIMP. They're want orgy party.
@@13dg "People don't know so ask" bro that's a googleable question wtf, she could have asked so many other questions but nooo she had to try and make Elon look like a bad guy didn't she?
Why even she asked🤷♂️. Its his private company. If he wants to put Americans first then what's wrong with that and he is from Africa. F*cking karens.
"You are going interplanetary, but when are you going international"
*Crowd Cheers*
Elon Musk: "Well we can't legally do that..."
*Crowd* "Oh"
and?
the cheering meant "yea, great question, we're wondering this too", it's a way to show musk that it's an important question for everybody there.
the absence of cheering, obviously, meant "oh okay"
@@deemah3602 no this crowd really suffers from sheep mentality
@@deemah3602 she literally accused Elon of not going international and it was disproved by him saying that 30% of Tesla's employees are non Americans and he'd love to have non Americans SpaceX employees too if it weren't illegal, they were definitely looking for a gotcha moment and failed miserably
Lil Doomer she accused no one, you are really strange in you analysis here.
It’s an interesting question, I wondered too why they hired only Americans, and like always: laws.
I dont think so. It's very possible there were a lot of foreign born engineers in that audience and they were just conveying that they would also to be part of the space x project. Hence they cheered the question because of the prospect of doing so (even if they already knew the answer). Not everyone is an SJW.
I like how it's just silence and then a cough at the end not the answer they wanted to hear to satisfy their hate
No applause at the end? LoL

Yup. It's called ITAR. International Traffic in Arms Regulations. Launch vehicles are classified the same as ballistic missiles, so if you want to get hired in that field, you need to be able to get a security clearance, and to get a security clearance in this country, you pretty much either have to be a born American citizen or a legally naturalized American citizen.
Elon just destroyed that woman's entire career.
