Yes it's all very confusing. I didn't understand the process until I took Lena Headey's acting workshop. She rhetorically asked the class: "How do I act so well?" and answered her own question by saying "what I do is pretend I'm the person I'm portraying in the show or play."
While we were all confused, she explained that when George RR Martin came to her in England and asked to to play Queen Cersei of House Lannister, she responded "you are aware that I am not really a Queen of a fictitious Noble House?" That cleared things up.
If Lena were to draw a graph of her process, of her method, it would be something like this: Lena, Lena, Lena, action, Queen Regent "Power is power", cut. Lena, Lena, Lena.

He is very honest. He's being a man who admits when he is sexually attracted but he is partly laughing at himself. He also loves to have fun and be stupid while being intelligent and well -informed. He treats lovely women as people who are sexually attractive but also as people with other qualities.
Funny thing is, because he's up front about it and doesn't try to pretend to be anyone else, I imagine a lot of women on his show felt more comfortable around him because of it. Otherwise he would have been absolutely DESTROYED in the tidal wave of accusations that have finally toppled the halls of network TV power over the last few years.

It really shows you can be flirty without being creepy, and while he's famous for being flirty he can also spend ages talking about anything. It's amazing to watch:)

In Game of Thrones Cersei is just a bit too evil and let's face it perverted to think of as sexy. But the real Lena Headey is quite lovely. By the last two interviews she totally gets Craig and seems relaxed.
