  • Many viewers found the reality show To Catch a Predator quite satisfying, as it would draw in sexual offenders and turn them over to law enforcement. However, not everyone was a fan. Some found it too exploitative, while others thought it did more harm than good, including some judges who threw cases out due to the show's part in leading to an arrest.
NBC eventually decided to bring the Dateline segment to an end. But host Chris Hansen has worked hard to get it back on the air, despite issues in his personal life. Let’s take a look at the untold truth of To Catch a Predator.

A pedo is a pedo. I don't care If they begged them to come over. Any normal person wouldn't have driven 2 hours to go knock the door of a 12 year old.

Do some honest detection, prove if the suspect has criminal intent, bag him. I don't need to see the justice _unfold_ to serve my own hunger. The show felt cringy to me and the only reason these people sought out children was to serve their own urge I doubt they had much control over.
I'm aware the States doesn't much help rehabilitate or improve most criminals in any way, but the show need only focus on the capturing, not the luring, or the gloating from the host.

so you would rather them have sex with children tell they one day if ever get caught.sorry but letting that happen is all kinds of wrong. when you can put an actor that looks like a kid be in a chat room and let the perverts start the chat then let him start talking about sex then the pervert wants to come over.comes inside and the police are waiting sounds much better to me. if your kid was in this Scenario at what point would you call the cops? when you found out an adult was knowingly having chat sex with your little girl?when you find out that the guy hasn't touched her yet but has been talking with her outside after school?well maybe it will take you coming home and finding the guy having sex with your kid or worse yet you come home and your kid is gone? .....the fact is it is not real to me but it is damn sure very real to the guys they step inside that door its game over they broke a few laws. this show might have stopped a murder or rapes of children..thats how this show got started victims and familys of victims started this

Its like saying its OK to do something THAT YOU FULLY UNDERSTAND IS ILLEGAL as long as you were tricked into it by law enforcement or the government... like really? That sounds nutty. Its almost like the idea implies that if anyone was given the opportunity who knew the laws then in the same situation, they'd have sex with underage people. Um... no... I do understand there is a rule against entrapment, I just think its stupid. Maybe there is something I'm missing, but when someone says "hey this is illegal, do not ever do that" and you decide "hey, I'm going to do that thing"... come on...

We attack the show because of its vigilante justice. They decide who is guilty, that is not how american law works. These men might be pedophiles, but purely being a pedophile is not illegal. Having sex with someone underage is illegal. These men were trying to do something illegal but never did it. In America, for the most part, that means it is not illegal. The show also ruins these men's lives, which is why people sue them. There is a strong argument to be made that it was the adraneline rush of getting a child to agree to have sex with you, which is not illegal, and then going to the house is just a stronger adrenaline rush. These men might have no desire to have sex, but could just like the idea of it, and that is not harmful to someone nor is it illegal.

+Yonkage , +Matthew Hinchberger +TheProclaimed it does happen. Some girls lie about their age on adult dating sites, it's happened to a friend of mine. Also when I was A young teenager there were always a few girls with boyfriends between 18-35 at 13 yrs old. Almost every school would have a teacher who would date underage girls. It's much harder now for them to get away with it because of the "Over-Hyped" fear.

It didn't used to happen over the internet. Mainly because the internet wasn't so huge 15 or so years ago.
I have a stepsister who wound up _marrying_ the bald ugly pedo in her life. (He got her knocked up.) No internet involved.
Your analogy doesn't really work. The predator trolling method, to my knowledge, simply involves registering a profile on an adult website with a child's age... or going into chat and saying something to the effect of "i'm 13 lel"
Which would more or less equate to said drug sting cop saying to a crowd "excuse me, sirs and madams, would any of you care to partake in some... drugs?"

      NO ONE IS DEFENDING PEDOPHILES
What people are arguing is that even though they're caught in the act, we can't just go and off someone because of a fucking tv show. The U.S has a thing called due process. Murderers go through it, thieves go through it, and yes surprise surprise PEDOPHILES GO THROUGH DUE PROCESS TOO! I don't get how any sane person can use "The end justifies the means" bullshit. You know who uses that logic? ISIS, you know who else used it? The KKK.

I wouldn't consider it . entrapment. In all of these cases, the person caught was the who initiated the convo, & they had evidence of their plans. One guy even got caught twice.

a day after he got caught & had a court date, in fact. the naked dude turned into the McD's 'I was getting something to eat!' dude. Fucker. They need to play this show on a continuous loop in prisons so the other prisoners see what they look like in case one of them shows up some day...

I suppose that's how it began but I'm really suspicious of how it went about later.. like did they begin enticing people when the inflow subsided?

    • @raym.778
      @raym.778 Před 5 lety +4

The main reason why it's not entrapment is because law enforcement doesn't interact with these people until they've already committed a crime.
Perverted Justice operated with or without the police or the show. NBC, Perverted Justice, and the police operated in concert with one another for TCAP, but these were never instances of law enforcement enticing anyone to break the law. In the states the show operated in, it was illegal to solicit sex from a minor. These men committed a crime in the privacy of their own homes. Once they ended up on the doorstep of a person they thought was a child, they were basically digging a deeper grave. The police were merely there lying in wait.

The whole publicly exposed thing is kinda BS, if they were busted in a normal police sting they'd have to register as a sex offender and that info would be public anyways.

I live in a state where the age of consent is 16 and sex offenders aren't required to publicly announce it and I believe if you go to prison and serve your time it should end there once you get out you shouldn't be put on some list and loss your rights

I didn't find the show entertaining due to its dark subject matter. But I think the shows producers had good intentions. And the criminals definitely needed to be caught.

No, it's more in line with you offering to give a kid some drugs, arrange to meet said kid at his/her home when you know their parents won't be around, then when you arrive you get arrested for trying to give FUCKING DRUGS TO A KID.
These people were preying on children, trying to orchestrate some sort of sexual situation with kids.
But for the sake of your stupid argument, if having an intention of acquiring marijuana is illegal then regardless of if you got set up by a tv show, you would have still been breaking the law.

Entrapment is not the case here. The crime kicks in when the actor is found by evidence predisposed to commit the crime anyway. The fact that the police set up a house to complete the arrest is irrelevant.
