  • On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (January 11th, 2017) John Campea, Kristian Harloff, Jeremy Jahns, Jon Schnepp, Ashley Mova and Wendy Lee discuss the following:
    -Tom Holland confirms Spider-Man will be in Avengers Infinity War
    -Rian Johnson says Luke Skywalker is the “emotional entry point” into Episode VIII
    -AMC Rewind
    -The PGA nominates Deadpool
    -First full trailer for Cars 3
    -First trailer for Dark Night
    -Ignoring Films in a Franchise
    -Aquaman
    With the Avengers: Infinity War production beginning soon, it looks as though Marvel Studios won’t be able to keep the cast of the massive superhero sequel under wraps. Just as Zoe Saldana confirmed to MTV news that she will reprise her role as Gamora, one other future Avenger also confirmed their involvement: Spidey. Spider-Man star Tom Holland recently sat down with Italian magazine L’Uomo Vogue (via ComicBook.com), where he confirmed his part in the movie, saying Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans gave their personal stamp of approval in his casting - saying he could handle three Spider-Man films, including Avengers Infinity War. We’ll see for ourselves when it lands in theatres on May 4th, 2018.
    In their continuing coverage of Episode VIII as part of their must-see movies of 2017, USA Today revealed even more comments from writer-director Rian Johnson about his upcoming sequel to The Force Awakens. First off, if you’re looking for a darker middle chapter a la Empire Strikes Back, you won’t find it with Episode VIII. Johnson said he wants the film to be a blast and to be funny the way The Force Awakens and the original Star Wars movies were. And in regards to the character of Luke Skywalker, fans who wanted more from the Jedi Master will be in luck with this film.
    AMC REWIND

    The Producers Guild of America have announced their nominations for the Best Picture of 2016 and by far, the biggest surprise of the bunch was a nomination for 20th Century Fox’s wacky superhero action-comedy Deadpool. As for what it means for its newly invigorated Oscar chances, we’ll have to wait and see when the Oscar Nominations are announced on January 24th.
    Disney has released a new Cars 3 trailer, adding more plot and character info to the third movie in the franchise. Directed by Brian Fee Cars 3 tells the story of legendary Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) who is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win. Cars 3 features the return of Larry the Cable Guy as Mater, Bonnie Hunt as Sally Carrera, and Cheech Marin as Ramone. It’s set for release on June 16, 2017.
    The first trailer for Dark Night has hit online. The movie, loosely based on the Aurora, Colorado theatre shooting that happened during The Dark Knight Rises, debuted at last year’s Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews. The movie follows the activities of six strangers over the course of one day, from sunrise to midnight, with the shooter among them. It is directed by Memphis director Tim Sutton and is scheduled to hit theatres in a limited release on February 3rd.

    Deadpool doesn't deserve to get a Best Picture nomination. It does not. I swear to god, if it does, I will never watch the Oscars ever again.
    The Dark Knight didn't get nominated for Best Picture. Why the fuck would Deadpool be nominated? The Dark Knight is on another STRATOSPHERE when it comes to quality of film compared to Deadpool. Yet, it didn't get nominated for Best Picture. Deadpool doesn't fucking deserve jack shit other than some technical awards, sure. But BEST PICTURE?!?!?!?!?!? HELL FUCKING NO.

    • @billyberry8954
      @billyberry8954 Před 7 lety

      While I do STRONGLY agree with you, the reason The Dark Knight did not get nominated for best picture, and the only reason I believe, was because back then the Academy only had 5 spots for best picture nominees. They expanded after that because of the backlash they faced for snubbing The Dark Knight, and then they expanded to 8 spots and then 10 which allows for more "non-traditional" films to be nominated (like a Mad Max: Fury Road). Guarantee The Dark Knight would've been nominated had they had more than 5 places for nominees.

      Billy Berry I get that. But still, today, there are 10 movies better than Deadpool. Moonlight, La La Land, Manchester by The Sea, Hell or Highwater, Hacksaw Ridge, Silence, Fences, Arrival, Jackie, Lion.
      Boom, 10 films right off the bat that most people would find as higher quality over Deadpool.
      Hell, Deadpool isn't even the highest rated COMIC BOOK movie of 2016. Most people would agree Civil War is a better overall film than Deadpool. So why does Deadpool get the nod over Civil War?

      @fizri12 Před 7 lety

      +Mr. Morgan I don't think that storytelling was too unique, it feels a little bit different just bcuz its like sketch comedy. For example, he can break the fourth wall, that's what it a little bit different but as far as storytelling its not that unique. Civil War handled a lot of characters and put a lot of other storylines and still make it a cohesive movie.

      @ArsArcanum Před 7 lety

      Hafiz Mat Saberi. Civil war is just too mich of a genre film. all these superheroes doing incredible things in a 200 mil blockbuster. deadpool is more contained, meta, and an overall better script.

      @fizri12 Před 7 lety

      Mr. Morgan nah, Deadpool story is so simple to make bcuz it is origin story, and most of the joke and dialogue in the movie also if you want to talk about script, it just references other things and swears a lot.

After the movie we bought so many toys and played so many hours of our days and even in school I just wanted to get home and play with our cars with my brother.
    Everytime mother asked us if we wanted to go to the centrum and we always asked her "Could we go to the toy store on the way?"

      J053 Mate are movies based on real events made just to inform people of those events? IMO that's not the case. Was The Social Network made to inform people of the story behind Facebook? No, it was intended as an interesting story that said something about the way our lives have been changed by the technological innovations at the dawn of the 21st century. Was Schindler's List made to tell people that the Holocaust happened? No, it was meant as a tribute to a heroic figure who saved lives through one of the toughest periods in recent human memory.

    • @J053x
      @J053x Před 7 lety

      +Guy Simchony yes some movies are made to inform people which is awesome but to make movies about tragedies where people died just to make money off of it isn't cool. instead they should of wrote an original idea for the movie, it still could of had the same premise but not using the Boston marathon as a way to get people in the theatre. there really isn't a reason to make the movie but I'm not even hating on it, I haven't seen it, maybe it's good!

      I think they're good because they're fun and even have good stories. I even liked them more than Force Awakens. Since that was more of a copy of Episode 4 & 5, but weaker.
      It's obvious that the original trilogy is superior. But as Schnepp mentioned here, Many who grew up with the prequels, think that the originals are too slow. I even knew a few kids growing up who thought they were boring. My 5 year old son is one of them. Maybe when he gets older he will appreciate them.

      I'm not worried at all. Due to Rogue One, as you mentioned, was good. Also since it is a product of Ryan Johnson.
      I think too much blame is placed in JJ though. I believe Disney wanted him to okay it safe. But I do believe that Disney has learned their lesson. And Rogue One is the perfect example.
      More and more have been telling me how little they thought of Episode 7. Only a matter of time before the Collider crew see that the movie wasn't so great. After all, half of them have grown to respect the prequels.

    With regards to the trailers for Spider-Man: Homecoming - I accidentally watched the International trailer first, under the impression that it was the first Official trailer (which goes to show how confusing it can be when they're released on the same day), and I was thoroughly underwhelmed. I'd been pumped to see Spidey again, but something didn't click for me. Then when I realised my mistake, I watched the Official one, and was blown away. The story beats felt more coherent, the comic timing was there, and I really got a sense of who the characters were, and what the movie was about. I'd never truly grasped how important good editing is in marketing until that moment.

    That Dark Knight trailer was a trailer that struck me as creepy and haunting. I remember coming out of the Dark Knight Rises and checking my phone for the news and the first thing I saw was a news story that came 7 min before I came out of the theater about the shooting that happened during the exact same movie. It was a scary thought that it could have happened at my theater.

    I'm sorry but labeling Finn as just a "comic relief" is ridiculous and insulting. Finn had much more of a character arc than Rey who's trajectory in the film was stagnant. No one would *ever* call Luke "comic" relief which is ironic because he and Finn are so alike. Finn is a co-lead get it straight. One character attribute does not define a character. Try brave, strong, charming, human.
