This video sort of make you realise how daunting a director's task really is. You have a whole crew and thousands of people counting on you to give them the right instructions and if the film fails, it's all on you.
Definitely. However, there are also a lot of role-players there to help the director to be able to focus, almost solely, on the primary actors and what's in front of the camera. A lot of the legwork in managing those crowds/extras and such are done by the ADs and other ancillary crew. If the director had to focus on everything, they'd get nothing done. Like you said though, the brunt of the blame would still end on the director though.
ALSO if it is a film you have read and imagined a thousand times in your head, surely telling people what to do would seem a little less daunting - still hard to do none the less.
1:21 Janusz Kaminski trying to frame a shot and giving the look at Spielberg after the last one bumped into him (and actually never realized it) xD
I love seeing actors between scenes, out of character. Such an interesting hybrid, dressed like the character but being themselves.
+Nurse Grace Exactly!!
It is so cool how they make movies.
69 years young and still at the top of his game.
This film was one of the last Touchstone Pictures films ever made before it went defunct, which is very sad. 😢💔
The footage at 5:45 always inspires me to continue as a movie director thanks Mr Spielberg for continuing to inspire me as a filmmaker
It's impossible to understate the vision and brilliance of forethought that Steven Spielberg continues to hold in is mind. One wonders what he might create if there were not limits of time and space.
At the Berlin Wall set, Germans looking outside their windows: "Oh no, not again!"
+jayjayjigsbys Hahaha!!!
Haha der war echt gut ;)
That was shot in poland :)
But the "not again" part still stands :D
✌😐
you can see the realism in these shots. amazing.
1:21 Probably the most physically prepared director of all time!
Its foam..
Do you never worry? Would it help?
Ha.
The most underrated movie in 15 years.
I want b roll like this on the blu ray, not as much glossy stuff with talking heads
don't we all ?
As an aspiring film director it is inspiring and fascinating to see film directors do their job.
This is a very good movie. One of the best scenes is the one with all the flash bulbs on the floor.
I want to be a film director and this is just motivation, to be honest.
I hope your dream will come true ❤
Same, have you already started to shoot something?
Great movie.
One of Mr. Spielberg's masterpieces for sure!!!
I could watch 3 hours of this!
I love him!!!
wow that's really cool. Thanks for sharing ScreenSlam
This is what watching a movie high is like y’all....it’s great!
I love broll
Does anyone know what style of coat Tom Hanks wears at the beginning of the movie? I really admire that look and would love to buy something similar in style in London as it’s approaching autumn/winter
Alan Alda looks well for 80.
Yeah Brdige of spies was great.
1:20😯 today I found out that Steven Spielberg is Superman/Hulk
Gosh so much pressure being an actor.
Geat bts!
at 8:22 how did they get that audio?
This is like a military operation
A stupid question from me, do they film digitally these days right from the beginning?
+winni223 Depends on the director and the cinematographer and what they want the picture to look like. Sometimes film (with actual film rolls like in the old days) works better and sometimes digital works better.
+George Daugherty Thanks a lot! Until very recently I thought they still use analog camera for the classic type of picture, then develop, digitize it and at this stage begin editing in a cutting room (digitally).
winni223 I know that Christopher Nolan and Martin Scorsese does it the exact way you just described. I know there are a few other directors that still do it that way, but those are the directors on the top of my head that I know still do that.
Bridge of Spies (As well as most Spielberg movies) was shot on film though.
What camera was Spielberg playing with @7:48?
Super 8?
@@ryanoseguera1207 Sounds like he's talking about 16mm film. After looking into it, looks like a Bolex h16 Reflex.
Film directing & producing my own films my long term goal how do I start?
Chrissy Stewart keep on being creative never stop creating and being inspired, just remember if you do become a famous and big movie director that money doesn’t make movies, only good movies make money.
First learn history... with Historic knowledge a Director cannot make a good movie !
wie geil ist das denn der kann deutsch?! HAHAHAHA
why are they using boom mics? dont they re-record sounds afterwards?
Boom-mics are used for capturing dialogue, the foley (sound effects recorded afterwards) is done in studio. However, sometimes they'll use the on-set sound if it's good enough to use.
jetzt wissen wir schon mal das Tom kein Profi in deutsch ist 😊
that dude is worth 3 billion dollars... understandebly
Why do you create these black screens in between ? Instead write some description through out. It’s really disturbing .sorry
why is Steve lifting props, what's that all about?
+Jim Jones It's not a prop, only things touched by cast are props.
+Jim Jones They're set elements. Part of the set design. Not prop. And what's wrong with Steve helping people out? It's his movie, he can lend a helping hand if he can.
Why not? to show all the hard work his going through making a masterpiece?
+Alec McGrath And like he said in the video: it's a workout.
+Jim Jones He's the director, and it's his film. He can do whatever he likes, he's the greatest director that has ever lived.
At 3:20 we see Speilberg's height in comparison to everyone else. Is speilberg small or something or are these men huge?
+Joe Allen Barniak Spielberg is 5'8". Not necessarily short, but not very tall, either. Just looked it up. Amazing what you can find on the internet these days.
true. everyone is huge then.
+Joe Allen Barniak He's physically short, but among filmmakers, he's a giant in the industry. Lots of directors seem to be really short. Martin Scorcese, George Lucas, Woody Allen, etc.
JohnWesley Downey Some actors are very short and play action hero roles despite that. Daniel Craig is 5'9", Tom Cruise is 5'7", Sylvester Stallone is of average height at 5'10", and so on and so forth. But what they do have to make up for in height is screen presence. They feel bigger than they are.
JohnWesley Downey
Thanks sherlock...lol
To me it seems like a movie that was really quickly put together like in a year because of Spielberg's career, it isn't well-crafted like his earlier work (well then again, he is only getting older).
Maybe , because it had been done on a narrow budget. After all BRIDGE OF SPIES had been done as an American-German coproduction with the Babelsberg Studios in Berlin and German public funding ( öffentliche Filmförderung ) hence the many German actors in it. Know it because I still remember a German news clip showing Angela Merkel visiting the set.
It did have a simplistic storyline
@@knownpleasures I have a much different opinion of this film as I’ve gotten older, while not one of his best it is certainly a great Spielberg. I’m surprised I made this comment 5 years ago lol
gotta hate those long black cuts
Meanwhile, Trump the dotard wants a wall.... he'll never get xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Gay Spielberg. Who killed Heather O Rourke?
