The focus should not be on where you plant the pole but what you do with your hands. Where you put the tip has no baring on where your hands should be unless you focus on your hands. keep your hands in front of you as if they are on the handle bar of a bicycle. Just keep pointing the front tire down the hill and just flick your wrist and stick the pole in, then drive your hand forward as you go by the tip.
