You act like their sedans were doing well.
Buicks sedans sold TERRIBLY. There was no demand for em by the end.
Chevy last sedans were famously cheap, low quality, and my neighbor had nothing but issues with his Malibu.
I got to drive the last gen Cruze. My god. It's genuinely one of the worst cars I ever drove. It felt so cheap and was so cramped and impractical.

I know people in the comments are saying this is an older persons car but I'm in my 20s and have this car and love it! Super smooth ride, comfortable seats, spacious, great sound system. It even has some features that economy class cars dont have to this day like both heated and cooled seats. I'll take this over some of my friends newer BMWs or Toyotas since the ride is smoother. It's not the quickest or sportiest, but it feelsl like a luxury. Which a luxury car should feel like.

Best friend in college had a tan Lucerne with the bench seat and 3800. We called it the drunk bus because it was the go-to ride from our campus to the clubs in the city. The bench seat in front is a squeeze with three adults, but the back can fit four or five people.
We couldn’t have used most other sedans this way, so I will always appreciate the drunk bus for ferrying us around without needing a full-size SUV or pickup.

Buick knew a lot of these were going to go to sales reps and rental fleets. Which, at the time meant a lot of electronic devices from dashtop nav systems, to laptops, to your folding phone and whatever else. As such they knew that having power outlets galore was a good idea and like others stuck them where the wiring allowed: there's harness under that driver's seat. One that allowed for an easy 12volt hookup. So, they stuck one there.

I have seen the 12v outlet installed there for people towing the car behind a motorhome. When flat towing, they use a supplemental brake which is like a box shape and when it senses the RV slowing down, an arm connected to the brake pedal and pushing against the seat extends. It requires 12v and a lot of vehicles don't have a 12v outlet that is always hot. The power seats are usually a constant hot so they can take that power to plug the brakes into.

I can't believe I'm wishing for more sedans from GM. They really gotta start over and remember what they are supposed to be about. It's not that complicated, an everyman car that should not penalize the buyer with a cheap looking/feeling interior, they never learned a thing from Honda. It's not like GM can't build a competitive, desirable and accessibly priced car. The FWD A-body cars GM produced from 82-96 proved they could make a platform that could be re-used across each brand, dressed up or down to fit a budget, and it worked for a good while. Then they got complacent, Japanese brands saw their opportunity and took it by making better and more reliable cars that Americans were more than happy to buy instead. Don't blame them! Thanks for listening. Love the channel.

    We owned two of these.
The first was exactly like the model you’re showing, but it had the Northstar.
It was a great car until it wasn’t. This model was part of the ignition switch issue, so ours constantly shut off.
After Buick had it for a week, the dealer had taken in an 07 Lucerne CXS also with the Northstar.
It was a deeper mahogany color, but was otherwise the same.
So we made a deal to trade ours that never ran right for the other.
We never had an issue from the second one and drove it a few years.
That was about the time when my mechanic let me know how unreliable the NS engine was, so it was traded in.

Factoid: Lucerne got sound dampening. It was the 1st car that GM measured cabin noise and stuffed insulation everywhere. 🎉 The trunk is HUGE! Ride is land yacht soft. Slow, yes, ugly, sort of, and I bet I was one of few teenagers that drove one of these in my area of Ohio. And I miss these cars very much. I also like, what's for sale today, but c'mon, there's too many Chevys, and Fords, with tiny 1,x 4 cyl engines. I want back those times, when the smallest Crossover had V6, and when you could choose either European full-size, like an S-class, or 7 series, or an American full-size, like the DTS, or a Town Car. There's a 2011 Lucerne CXL in our family. The turning radius is nothing short of criminally big. Driving this car in a parking lot is challenging. With no back up camera, big blind spots from the real pillars and the horrible turning radius, I'm always one-half second away from running down some idiot that assumes that I can see them walking behind the car.
The other oddity is that the battery is installed under the back seat. This requires a specialized and very expensive battery. The car lives in the desert and eats batteries alive.
It's been a money pit for the past few years. Insurance is up late this year and I may opt to sell it off before anything else needs to be repaired.
Prior to the Lucerne, the particular family member owned a couple Park Avenues. I loved those cars...more quiet, fuel efficient, better performing and reliable than the Lucerne.

Buick is still an older person's car. The "older people" got younger. Boomers want something like what was popular when they were younger not what their parents wanted at the same age. Think small SUV, something the size of XJ Cherokee or the first generation Oldsmobile Bravada. Which is exactly what Buick is building.
When our generation is 80 we're going to want something that looks like a Tesla Model Y.

I’m surprised how much I liked this interior compared to most GM vehicles before and after. It’s like they channeled some Toyota design cues minus the material and switchgear quality but visually it’s a nice cohesive look. That said … I never liked the very bland exterior design with GM’s strange proportions.

Used car prices show that the Northstar equipped cars sell for far less. They are terrible engines. The 3.8 v6 goes back to 1962. It has had many upgrades over the years and a lot of technology implemented but has shared the same architecture over its lifespan.

These new cars are so unreliable the old folk cars as they call them are the most reliable, they may not be an charger hellcat,or they may not look as attractive ,but one thing you can count on is reliability and decentcy,no crazy buttons that keep u frazzled, simplicity isn't that all you should need in a vehicle😊

In 2007, the updated camry could have a 6-speed automatic with the V6, it was standard with a 5 speed auto in all models starting in 2005. The cadillac DTS, on which Lucerne shares its platform with, still had a 4-speed automatic as far as 2011, when the updated Lexus LS started using the 8 speed automatic in the same year as this, 2007. My point is that this was the worst era of GM. Everything shared the same few platforms. Everything was cheap. Everything was just lazy, and I hate GM for this kind of crap. It's no wonder why Buick didn't catch on with younger generations like it is in China right now. I especially hate this platform with the horrible northstar V8, FWD, and 4 speed.

    • @aca2983
      @aca2983 Před měsícem

To buyers of these, nobody cared weather it was a 4-speed transmission or not. Same as today, nobody except "enthusiasts' who read car blogs and sites cares if a car has a twist beam suspension or a fully independent suspension.
