The meaning of this song comes from the Ancient Slavic traditions, basically SHUM is a name of a forest God, in ancient traditions, women were singing these kind of Mantras to wake this God up with the coming of Spring after his long Winter slumber.
Were they raving like this
@@emrekaya6848 hopefully ;)
Ok
Wow! Thank you!
In Serbian, forest is SHUMA, but one of these ancient slavic gods was Leshi, probably connected with forest, serbian name for the tree where nuts are, is Leska, Leshnik is nut.

Amd here are the lyrics in English:
Oh Spring song, Spring song
Where have you spent your Winter?
In the garden, sitting on a maple tree
You’ve been spinning a shirt.
There on the edge of a forest
An owl is blowing into the water.
I’ll sing a song -
Let her hear it.
Shum, get twined with periwinkle
I’m singing the vesnyanka to you.
Sowing, sowing, sowing, sowing hemp plants,
Sowing, sowing, sowing, sowing green ones.
Come Spring, come
Don’t wait around
We’ll go outside
to love each other.
Oh Spring, our Miss,
Look in our window.
We had sang our song
And the Sun shined on.
Come on, come on, let’s twine the Shum,
Twine the Shum, dance it around.
Sowing, sowing, sowing, sowing hemp plants,
Sowing, sowing, sowing, sowing green ones.
Shum, get twined, get twined!
Shum, get spread with periwinkle.
Sowing, sowing, sowing, sowing hemp plants,
Sowing, sowing, sowing, sowing green ones.
Oh vesnyanka, vesnyanka
Where have you spent your Winter?
In the garden, sitting on a maple tree
You’ve been spinning a shirt.

I’m singing the spring song to you.

What this song sounds like based on your language skills:
a) you speak ukraine -> cool song about celebrating the return of spring
b) you speak a differenr slavic language -> nice folkish song. Something about villages and planting something green
c) you don’t speak any slavic language -> epic druidish chants from the frozen heart of russia

Sorry but I have to confuse you, but the Slavs don't listen to their folk songs at parties. They are used to listening to rap, pop, "disco polo" etc. Songs that are cultural, usually listened to at themed events or celebrations. however, fewer and fewer people listen to such songs, they are usually older people. Got to see this group live today at a music festival without having heard of them beforehand. They were great live so I wanted to check out more. A very charming group to watch on stage, and some great unique music to listen to

Yea same!
i’m latvian and same
Being half polish i thought i only got "lisi" and "sova", but reading the lyrics made me realize i actually get like 90% of it. Man, i love languages.
So do I, I really really really love this song and my Ukrainian pronunciation is getting better by the second 🤗🤗but I have no idea what I am pronouncing. Could you please tell me what it is about? Because I have no trust in Google Translate 😉.
I'm from Poland
Same for me
I'm from America, so I looked up the English translation. It seems like it's about Spring coming and maybe about farming or harvesting? I don't really understand much but it's a truly incredible song. It's so amazing I'm learning the Ukrainian lyrics💖
Thank you for this video, it's EXTREMELY helpful💖💖
It's mainly about Shum, the ruler of the forest!
@@rae8403 Oh, okay! Thank you!!💛🖤💜❤️
This is a very ancient song about the god of the forest
@Progreshbar alls I'm gonna say is either you don't know what pagan truly means or you haven't seen many religions. either way, I suggest research before commenting something like that
This is bland af. Minoir - the violin it's better.
I love the meaning of the song it gives me ancient germanic/slavic vibes
Обожаю это песню 🇩🇪🫱🏼🫲🏻🇺🇦
This hits different now
When I learn these lyrics, I’ll assume I’m Ukrainian.
HAHAHAHAHA i know most comments say this but THANK YOU FOR THE LIKES :) have a great day
It is Ukrainian🇺🇦
All slavs understand this. Thats why we are slavs. We use the same words. Youll be a slav, when you learn it an you know what that means czcams.com/video/oN6doVEr1XM/video.html

Greetings from Croatia ! Beautiful song, I just love it. You were my favorite.
I do understand some of the words, afterall, slavic people do have similarities in culture. In a region were I come from we have a zvončari ( bell ringers). The Bell ringers task is to scare away evil spirits of winter and to stir up new spring time cycle.
I honestly don’t understand a word of this song but for some reason I love it so much ❤
I’m sorry for any Ukrainians who have been affected by the war 🇺🇦💙💛
